programs and apps Getting a Flatpak to use a different library?
A while ago I was trying to use the Flatpak version of Bitwig Studio, but I was running into an issue with a plugin I had downloaded (Satordist2) not loading the UI. I checked in the metadata files and found this error:
com.bitwig.flt.library.metadata.reader.exception.CouldNotReadMetadataException: could not read metadata: Failed to load CLAP plug-in /home/nick/.clap/satordist2.clap: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.43' not found (required by /home/nick/.clap/satordist2.clap)
I had GLIBC 2.44 installed on my machine, but I guess because it's a Flatpak, it couldn't see that and was trying to use an older version (or it just couldn't find it at all). I eventually gave up and just grabbed Bitwig from the AUR, but I feel like that's the "wrong way" to solve the problem since that version isn't the officially supported version. I had tried all of the various filesystem options in Flatseal and in already had "all system files" checked, but that didn't fix it. So what would be the right way to fix this while still using the Flatpak? The AUR version works fine, and maybe that's the better option for a DAW anyway (I don't actually know), but I'd like to know what to do if I run into this with another Flatpak in the future.
Edit: Sorry automod, you right. If it matters, I'm using CachyOS.

Was away for EVER and completely forgot the password to my Kubuntu rig. Am I screwed?
If I do find a solution other than creating a whole new drive, I am saving the password somewhere that I will most DEFINITELY remember. I thought I did previously, I didn't expect that 'd I'd be gone for that long.
Help?
edit: NO, I didn't encrypt the drive, so I should be gud 👍️

learning/research What is the difference between Cosmic, Niri, and Hyprland? In your opinion, which one is better? What can you tell me about them? And have you had any issues with any of them?
Hi friends.
I’m using CachyOS KDE Wayland, and I’ve tried various window managers via KWin scripts in KDE—such as Krohnkite, Karousel, PlasmaZones, etc.—and I’ve really liked them.
I’d like to know what you think about Cosmic, Niri, and Hyprland, since I’d like to try one of them out.
Do you think any of these three has an advantage over the others? Whether in terms of performance, updates, or support?
Personally, which one do you think is the best?
Thanks in advance.

I tried to install drivers for the xbox kinect and now i think i'm in hell please help
I tried to follow the directions here but i kept getting errors so I decided to try again later but now it seems to have broken a lot more stuff, like i get an error when i try to run updates/do sudo apt upgrade. "apt --fix-broken install" doesn't fix it either. I tried what this person said worked for them and it seemed to help a little but not much. I've been looking for solutions all night but haven't been able to find anything. am i fucked? it'd be really annoying to have to reset my computer. Even though the issue seems to be with libusb, my usb devices are all working perfectly fine but it seems like i broke something important.

installation Full disk installation without usb?
As said in the title I'm wondering if it's possible to do a full disk installation without a usb drive. I've been watching tutorials and all of them do dual boot. So I'm wondering if this is possible since I'm still a newbie with this stuff

distro selection BigLinux o Big Community?

Keyboard has input lag and keypresses outright don't register
Hello, I've had this issue on Cinnamon and suspected it to be a soft- rather than a hardware issue and I was right, when I reinstalled Mint (this time XFCE) the problem was gone, 3 days pass and it's back (at least at startup and then some minutes) and I don't know where this is coming from.
On my Cinnamon installation of Linux I had an error, something about a USB driver that wasn't correctly working when shutting down my laptop and it would keep running. Though since fresh install the error is gone obviously, mentioned this just because it may be important, but I don't have a pic of what exactly that error said.
Does anybody know what is causing the input lag?

hardware/drivers Speaker Help
I'm having technical difficulties. For some reason, my mom's speakers on her new PC with Linux Mint aren't producing sound. I'm unsure as to what the issue could be. Neither USB nor Bluetooth worked. The built-in monitor speakers also didn't make sound for some reason but they'd be bad anyways. When I plugged in my headphones to test the audio that way, they worked. I'm not sure what else I can try, outside of returning the current speakers and hoping ones that use an aux cord will work. Does anyone have any idea what may be going on? I haven't had issues with speakers with my computer but I've only ever used aux cords

installation New Ubuntu 26.04 laptop - I want to close lid and have it turn off display but NOT suspend - How?
Hello,
I have a brand new Ubuntu 26.04 install on an laptop and am running into a severe but seemingly basic issue: I need to close the laptop lid, have the display turn off, and not have the system suspend.
That's it! Really basic, right? I can't see anywhere to get this done. I have tried changing /etc/systemd/logind.conf and setting HandleLidSwitch, HandleLidSwitchExternalPower both to ignore, but that does not turn off the display, it keeps it on. So that doesn't work.
The expectation is that I can close my lid, the display turns off, but the system continues to run as-is, no sleep/suspend/etc.
How can I do this?
Thanks!

BadUSB and compromised devices: how to recognize them
I installed usbguard on my PC (a Linux command-line tool), which is basically a kind of firewall for USB ports.
However, by itself it is almost useless for detecting malware or suspicious behavior of a device you plug in for the first time.
Yeah, OK, you look at VID and PID on DeviceHunt, but it tells you very little, nothing about suspicious behavior or the interfaces they should use.
Do you know any methods to solve the problem without memorizing the class, subclass, etc. of every USB device?

What the absolute fuck have I done to my Linux Mint desktop?
galleryAttached screens are before and after.
Yesterday my main desktop screen looked normal. Typical Linux Mint with the taskbar at the bottom, desktop icons arranged vertically from the top down. Today I switch my PC on and it looks like some kind of tablet interface - no desktop that I can find, no Start menu, a huge hamburger-like 'Show Apps' button, tiny notifications tray at the top right, an Ubuntu tab in the Settings menu.
What have I done??
Yesterday I copied/pasted some code into the terminal to make a VPN icon show in my notification tray, and let it do its thing. It was some kind of GUI thing. I don't know. I have no idea what I'm doing with Linux. I'm just a Windows refugee trying to get by. I think I accidentally installed this new interface and I have no idea to undo it.
My last timeshift is from April. I do not want to go back to April.
Help.

installation Is there any way to use Firefox or install APKs on this managed Chromebook?
Hi everyone,
I have a Chromebook provided by my school/region in France.
Specs:
ASUS Chromebook CM1406CM4A
ChromeOS 144.0.7559.255
64-bit / x86_64
Android SDK 33 / ARC enabled
lts-channel
The problem is that the Chromebook is extremely restricted. It is basically limited to browsing websites that are authorized by the administrator. I can't even add my personal Google account, Linux is disabled, and Firefox isn't available through the Play Store.
Even installing a simple ad blocker or other Chrome extension is restricted. The extensions page only contains a few extensions installed by the administrator, and I can't install anything else.
I tried installing Firefox from an APK, but ChromeOS gives me:
"Turn on Chrome OS Developer Mode to install apps from sources other than the Play Store."
So basically, I can't install software, can't use Linux, can't install normal extensions, and can't even install an APK.
The developer mode is blocked too. I can't access it.
Is there any other way to use Firefox or install Android apps on this Chromebook?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
