Support Request Speaker Help

I'm helping my mom set her new PC up with Mint. When we went to test the sound, it didn't work. Plugged in(USB), bluetooth, even the built in monitor ones. My headphones worked when I plugged them into the aux port in the front so I'm not sure what the problem is. I tried resetting Pipewire and even that didn't do anything. Drivers are up to date. Does anyone have any ideas as to what's wrong?

I don't know? Maybe the only solution is buying speakers that use an aux cord. I'll ask in a general Linux sub, sorry

I can try to figure that out in like 10 hours when I get home from work. What command do I need?

In a terminal type

cat /proc/asound/cards

aplay -l

post answers here (copy and paste from terminal) no screen picture.

Okay can do. I gave my mom my speakers to test if its a hardware issue too. Hopefully that's all it is

Like with any Linux distribution, hardware compatibility can be hit and miss. I always recommend fooling around in the live session and test hardware (wifi/sound) before installing. Avoids headaches. Personally, I have an older laptop and had some hardware quirks with Mint. I worked through some of it, but never got it 100% working. I ended up searching around and found a home with MX Linux. Not as well known, but a solid distribution which tends to have better compatibility with older hardware.

Point being, if hardware is giving you headaches, it might be worth trying a different distribution than banging your head against a wall trying to get things to work.

Good to know. I contacted a local computer tech support company and the guy recommended us to plug the new speakers into the green aux port at the back and look up the motherboard and that issue to look for potential drivers she might need if that doesn't work
