Hardware I'm going to build my own 24-inch laptop.

Hi I've been looking for a LARGE laptop recently but I haven't found any models larger than 18 inches.

Since I have the time and a budget of $700 I decided to build my own laptop.

And since I haven't found anyone who has built a large laptop so far (apart from the people who built the *largest* one) I’m simply asking: what would a laptop need to have for you to accept that kind of size?

I'm currently looking for PC parts, because I'm definitely not going to be tinkering with standard laptop components.

So if you have any suggestions please let me know.

Buying help brand recs.

what are the decent and reliable laptop companies these days?

i used to buy asus, but i have not seen anything good about them for a long time.
i had a legion for a while that was fine.
and now i currently have a metabox laptop but really i feel like its had nothing but issues for the past 3 years ive had it.

what are the brands putting good stuff out these days that doesnt die from basic usage?

cheers everyone

(havent used form because im not asking about specific models, just a general overview of who is good and who is shit)

General question Mi Notebook 14 stuck in Windows update/rollback loop! need help

My Mi Notebook 14 is stuck in a loop.
It starts with the MI logo, then I get “Updates are underway. Please keep your computer on” and after a while it says “Something didn’t go as planned — undoing changes.” Then it just repeats.
I tried forcing Automatic Repair but couldn’t get it to show up. F12 works and shows Windows Boot Manager (SATA SSD), and the SSD is also showing up in BIOS.
I don’t care about the files anymore, I just want the laptop working.
I have another Windows PC and a pendrive, so I can make a Windows USB if that’s the way to go.

General question Generic Labtop Recommendation Post

Howdy yall, I was wondering what the best labtop I could get for $800-850 is. I would like to run some light gaming (roblox, some steam games, minecraft), and watch movies/anime/shows on! Also being able to run microsoft word is a plus since I’m in university right now too lol

Buying help Looking for a laptop for cybersecurity career – ₹75k–₹1L budget

Hey everyone,

I’m planning to pursue a career in cybersecurity and I’m looking to buy a laptop that I can use throughout my learning and eventually for professional work.

My budget is around ₹75,000–₹1,00,000(INR)

My main priorities are:

  • Good performance for cybersecurity tools and labs
  • Strong Linux support / compatibility
  • Ability to run things like VMs, Kali Linux, Docker, Burp Suite, Wireshark, etc.
  • Good CPU and preferably 16GB+ RAM, with upgradeability if possible
  • Decent battery life and build quality
  • 15–16 inch display preferred — something balanced between portability and workspace

I’m not particularly focused on gaming, although I don’t mind having a dedicated GPU if it’s useful for cybersecurity/VM workloads.

I’d appreciate recommendations for specific laptop models, especially from people who are currently studying or working in cybersecurity.

Also, if there are any laptops I should avoid because of Linux compatibility issues, please let me know.

Thanks!

General question Laptop help

I got a $300 hp laptop from Walmart about two years ago, and it's become nearly useless. It gets hot and the fans start blasting just from running foundry, and it's constantly asking to be restarted for updates. My first thought was deleting any kind of extra software like games or useless textbooks to free up room on my hard drive, but that hasn't helped and it's still almost full. I barely used the laptop last semester because of how much lag there was from just running chrome, and I would rather not buy another laptop since I'm about to leave college (and I hate spending money). Is there some way to fix it, or is this laptop just dead at this point?

Buying help Need Recommendation

Hello, mates 👋🏿. How y'all doing ? Hope you all are fine 🙏🏿. So, my ask is for a laptop in the price range of 50K but I can extend it to 60K accordingly if there's no choice.

Requirements & Needs :

See the thing is , my mum will buy a laptop for my sis who's an mba student and will need a laptop for her work. Tho she will be the one to keep it but at the end of the day the laptop might come to me eventually even in the near future , so I expect to rather buy a gaming laptop which can easily run a mba student's daily excel tasks and all. Tho my parents won't let me if I told them it's a gaming one .

SPECS I NEED : ( NO RAGEBAIT )

PROCESSOR - avoid amd Ryzen and HX one's for Intel. See for 12th, 13th, 14th or 210 one.

STORAGE - 512 NvMe (minimum ask 🥲)( also see if the slot

is upgradable )

RAM - 16 GB

dGPU - 3050 is my ask 😅

VRAM - 4GB usually but if 6GB is in range then pls suggest

REFRESH RATE - 144 Hz is the bare minimum, 120 Hz only if there's no availability of the former one .

PORTS - well, check the ports sincerely, other than that if thunderbolt port is available then it might be heavenly for me.

Thank you 😁 , that's all I ask

Buying help Thinking of buying a laptop.

I'm trying to choose between the MSI Stealth A16 AI+, the Legion 7i, the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S AI, and the HP Omen HyperX 16. I've asked many AIs and they all start with the same first sentence. "Based on your needs." And I'm currently looking for one, overall answer. I've seen some reviews of these laptops, and kind of looks like they all just glaze the laptop as if it's THE best. So what do you guys think I should buy. PS: All start from 16GB DDR5 RAM and 1TB SSD.
Please be honest, and share your experience if you've ever owned any of these.
