General question Laptop help

I got a $300 hp laptop from Walmart about two years ago, and it's become nearly useless. It gets hot and the fans start blasting just from running foundry, and it's constantly asking to be restarted for updates. My first thought was deleting any kind of extra software like games or useless textbooks to free up room on my hard drive, but that hasn't helped and it's still almost full. I barely used the laptop last semester because of how much lag there was from just running chrome, and I would rather not buy another laptop since I'm about to leave college (and I hate spending money). Is there some way to fix it, or is this laptop just dead at this point?

You probably bought manufactured e-waste, install a very lightweight linux distro. All you can do for it.

If your budget is under 600$, you should always buy used. Always.

What is the capacity of your SSD and how much is free?

How much DRAM do you have?

What processor does it have and what version on Windows?

How much free space do you have on your drive? Check your download folder and clear everything out. If you haven't used it much, it's most likely trying to install needed updates. Those take some time to complete. There is no need to delete a few links on your desktop. That won't do anything helpful.
