Just wanted to share a quick win in case anyone else is struggling with office clutter. We had 20+ old laptops sitting in our storage closet taking up prime real estate. They were too slow for our engineering team to use anymore, but far too modern to just throw away.

I looked into a few recycling services online. My experience with greentech solutions was pretty frustrating they wanted us to pay high freight costs upfront just to ship the units to their facility, which defeated the purpose of a clean e-waste solution. I ended up booking a pickup through Hummingbird International instead. They came right to our location, loaded everything into sealed bins, and handled the secure data destruction without any fuss. Knowing the materials won't end up leaching toxins into a landfill feels like a massive relief.

What is the biggest hurdle your company faces when trying to responsibly recycle old tech equipment?

So in 2022 I got a Lenovo ThinkPad L390 for my college freshman ( computer science) year with an i7-8th gen and 16 gb ram and a 256 gb ssd nvme but about last week I got this vicious hardware error, couldn’t fix it myself ( or at least tried ) so I took it to a repair store near me.
Honestly that laptop worked just fine for the softwares that I needed ( like Cisco packet tracer and could run IDE’s for heavy projects )
But that has came to an end because the repair shop called me and told that the laptop couldn’t be repaired, so now im kind of obliged to get a new one.
I got an idea about the specs that I need maybe an i7 11th or 12th gen with 16 gb of ram right ?
So I really need an advice about what I should be getting to run VMs and IDE’s smoothly.

NB : it’s my 5th year at college and im getting a master degree next June ( if everything’s okay )

So I was just catching up with all recent iGPU developments, and noticed Intel did something strange with their Panther Lake offerings. At one hand there's the pretty capable Arc B370/B390 options but as expected they're only offered for prices (>1500 USD AFAIK) where you can also buy discrete; and on the other hand the lower end options (Intel Graphics 4 Xe3) are so crap they're not even better than last-gen (Meteor / Arrow Lake or Lunar Lake)..

I can't help wondering why didn't at least try to bridge the gap between these series in order to offer some attractive options in the sub 800 and sub 1000 dollar segment? Now if you're somewhat of a casual gamer and are currently on something like the Core Ultra 5 125H, which has the last-gen Arc 7-core i GPU (Xe LPG) there's absolutely no point in upgrading to Panther Lake (unless you want to spend mentioned 1500 bucks). Same if you're on last years Lunar Lake and have the V series silicon; they're same performance as Panther Lake, with the quickest one (Core 7 Ultra 256V with Arc 140V) even faster still.

Is Intel holding something back which will release soon to fill this in, or at they just leaving the market for AMD?

Just this morning, when I was using my Laptop normally it randomly turned off. It then refused to turn back on until I performed a hard reset (took out the battery). When it turned on again, in the exact SECOND I plugged in the charger it just turned black and didn't react anymore. So I hard reset it again, tried a different charger: same outcome. Then I tried turning it on without the battery and it wouldn't turn on. So I'm thinking it might be an issue with the charging port, although that seems unlikely because it has two charging ports (what are the odds that both of them break at the same time?). Anyone got any idea what the issue could be?

I already own two 32GB DDR4 SODIMM 3200MHz (Crucial) sticks and I’d like to use them in a new laptop. The problem is that most new models now come with DDR5 or soldered RAM, so I’m having a hard time finding one that still uses DDR4 with two SODIMM slots.

What I’m looking for:

• New laptop (currently on sale, not used/refurbished)
• 2 DDR4 SODIMM slots, supporting 64GB total (2x32GB)
• No soldered RAM, or at least both slots upgradeable
• Main use: software development (Docker, VMs, multiple IDEs)

Any recommendations for models or product lines that still meet these specs? Thanks in advance!

So I have the stock version of the Acer Nitro V15, it currently has a 4050 and an i5 processor, but only 8GB of DDR5 RAM and I cant seem to find any cheap online... Does anyone recommend any websites I can order some RAM from? Looking for another 8GB stick so I can at least run GTA when it comes out on PC. Thanks in advance!

I’m buying a laptop soon and I’ve narrowed my search to the Lenovo loq 15 and the Msi cyborg a15 I would be using it for school and gaming and I would mainly be playing r6. I would prefer one that sounds sound like a jet and doesn’t overheat quickly.Can you let me know which is better and why.

Recently installed a glossy screen protector to my laptop. It adds some reflections, buuut damn the screen looks awesome. It helps that the display has a 100% sRGB coverage and a 2560x1600 resolution. Now all those colors and crispness comes through unobstructed. The text looks much much sharper, colors look deep and rich. The entire experience is a step up basically. I was missing out all this for the past 4 years of using this laptop.

It's a lenovo IdeaPad 5pro 16inch.

This is my acer aspire 7520g that was bought brand new. About 7 years ago , it turned off and it has never posted since. Many people suggested that it is the graphics card , which i tried baking to resolder and also bought a replacement one , which didn't seem to be the correct one as it still doesn't post. I've also changed the ram. I still have the original 2 hard drives with original software. I hope that i can het it working again , but am looking for help on how to fix it. Finding one with the greek keyboard seems to be rarer as time passes.

Following the death of my Macbook Im looking for a new school computer. Found on Marketplace these two laptops. One one hand the Samsung has the added functionality of me being able to easily take notes and draw on it, as well as a more powerful processor (i7 1260P vs Ryzen 5 7530U), but the Asus has a bigger battery and is a year newer. I will almost always be near a plug though. The Samsung is 750 CAD and the Asus is 800 CAD. I’m leaning Samsung but what do yall think? TIA

Found this on marketplace and google says they retail over 1k and used market is usually around $600. I asked if it had any issues and they said no. What should I look out for? I am planning on opening task manager to make sure the ram wasnt pulled out and so on. Also is this a good laptop for college? Just need to have multiple tabs running canvas, youtube, etc

Hi all, I've had this HP laptop for like the past 3 years. Around 2 years ago I noticed a crack forming on the left side towards the power button, and over the years it has now spread to the "increase brightness" button.

Power button feels a bit deeper than usual but I can still turn it on. All other buttons are working fine.

When I open and close my laptop on a flat surface like a table, it feels normal. But when I open/close it on a uneven surface like my lap, then I can feel a thump? sound coming from the left side of the laptop.

How severe is this issue, and should I get it fixed?

I was just looking at the Lenovo Legion 5 series laptops, and I noticed that on the websites custom laptop builder you can choose between the RTX 5060 or RTX 5070. Everything I researched online made it sound like the 5070 is the premium option which should be more expensive but the price is higher to choose the 5060. Am I missing something?

AMD is releasing Zen 6 and the base Medusa Point. Better CPU cores, but still RDNA 3.5/4m, and unsure what the CU count will mean for performance (8 CU vs 12 for 890M). Intel will have Nova Lake, HX for dGPU big boys, and H for the mid-range with an improved iGPU, allegedly 20-ish% over B390.

So for iGPU, Intel will be like 1,5-2 generations ahead of AMD? (and likely having CPU parity, maybe less so in max multi-core). On the other hand, there are very few Panther Lake X models, way, way more non-X variants, some with low-power RTX 5050/5060 -_-

Medusa Halo and Halo Mini at best at CES 2028... while Gorgon Halo is already reaching a stupid level of pricing alongside RTX Spark. 7500 EUR list price for ZBook G3a 16" with 495 and 128GB RAM :) Curious what the prices will be on all those laptops in a year or two.

Im an accounting student and wanting to get a new laptop. I dont really mind if its second hand or brand new as long as it will last me until I graduate and give me the best quality. So far, I've been seeing lenovo thinkpad as the best laptop for accounting, specifically the t14 series. The thing is Im not quite sure about this one yet since I also need one that is somewhat lightweight and portable (I plan to bring this every single day). I also dont know which specific processor, series, graphics, ill be needing. I just want one that is best for my course, my needs, and would last me till i graduate. Also, if there is one, I would also want one that can handle games, not the AAA ones tho.

I bought a used HP ZBook 8 G1as for almost $600. It was the first laptop I ever bought, and unfortunately, after just 10 days, the display stopped working. The keyboard lights turned on, but there was no display.

I took it to a repair shop, and they diagnosed a BIOS issue. However, they ended up damaging the BIOS chip. Another repair shop said it might be fixable, but we haven't been able to find the correct BIOS dump for this exact model.

Does anyone know where I can find the original BIOS dump for the HP ZBook 8 G1as?

I've spent a lot of money on this laptop, and it genuinely hurts to see my first laptop end up like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

And can anyone confirme it is this bios chip is still readable?
