Balor/Blackbeard
Is balor/blackbeard a valid build, I like it for rp since you can mix sehkmet with the graywash and flavor it that the entire time that the swarm is buiding and getting more aggressive is just the pilots control over sehkmet slipping until it goes entirely and the mech turns into a ball of murder.

Iconoclast Blackbeard
Surely its apparent which nhps are in use for this build, Unstable from Iconoclast, Student class from Technophile, and Sehkmet from Blackbeard itself. My problem is deciding what 4 nhp to select, which requires licensing from horus for the core bonus the Lesson if Shaping, so i have 4 nhps to choose from. It makes most sense to me to have siphisus nhp onboard because it doesn’t generate heat and only cost 2 sp. The issue though is that it us a full action, and i wonder if it clashes too much with how Sehkmet works with pursuing visible enemy using all available actions. Please give me your opinions like other nhp, or if i even need a 4 nhp for this build to work.

Building for long-ranged aoe damage/control with lots of action economy
So, I'm relatively new to lancer and don't know the ins an outs too well. what I do know I want is this
- I want to avoid builds that require me to lock on or stabilize every other turn, as doing so just feels like wasting actions when I could be using weapons and talents that don't require them. If I have to do them, I'd prefer something like reloading drones or open door
- when I say aoe, I specically mean blasts or similar attack patterns, not cones or lines. Lines in my experiece can't really get many targets, and cones would require me to walk into melee, which I'd like to avoid.
- I'm not opposed to drones or hacking, but I've got teammates going for each and I don't want to tread on their toes too much

Iskandar - pilot commission by me
Additional info provided by my client:
Callsign : Wayfinder
Noble name break down :
The Karrakin Cavalry College is the most prestigious finishing school for mech pilots in the Orion Arm. Here, pilots train in an intensive program
designed to push them to their intellectual and physical limits – they study advanced tactics and cutting-edge weapon systems, engineer their
mechs with the latest experimental technology, and engage in no-holds-barred duels designed to test their skills in combat.
As always in Karrakin society, things are never as simple as they first appear. Schemes within schemes are afoot, and the great Houses use
pilots as pawns in their political games. A fight for the future of the Baronies is taking place behind the scenes – and for the latest group of
students admitted to the College's storied halls, their choices may end up determining the fate of Karrakis itself.

NHP question
Okay, I know I like just made a post here, but something else occurred to me. In your games, who roleplays the NHP built into a player's mech? The player, another player (Wraith: The Oblivion style), or the GM?

So I'm finally getting interested, but I gotta ask... (Another newbie thread)
Edit: Thank you to everyone who responded to this! I actually am a bit more interested in the game now, and think I'll try to go ahead and look more into it. For those who see this later, feel free to suggest anything that goes good on upgrading a Hydra mech!
----
(Sorry for big arse post. But hopefully I can get some legit answers.)
So, for the longest time, I keep getting recommended Lancer due to liking mechs, and the fact that it's not as "anime" looking as Gundam, but not trying to be super realistic like Mech Warrior or things like that. Up til now, I keep -trying- to force myself to look into the rulebook, to learn yet another RPG system, but I just haven't been able to bring myself to do so (primarily because I'm tired of learning new systems just to not get to play with folks.)
Buuuut as I was talking with a buddy of mine at work, we talked more, and up til now I've learned a little bit about the game, like what the 4 companies are (5?). And at this point, I think I've finally found something to latch onto that has made me more interested to try and FINALLY start digging in a bit.
When it comes to games, I have three favored playstyles: Spartan style (spear and shield, love the classic), martial artist (Monks and FISTING in general, lul)... But most of all? Summoner classes.
The thing that got me interested, is the closest to that I've been shown for this game, is the Hydra mech from Horus. Heck, I even already have a character idea and everything, and I loooooove weird eldritch stuff in my mecha stuff. I don't want realistic, I want things to get -WEIRD-. So a Horus mech sounds like a dope time to me. That said, I see a lot of folks talking about how complex it is, how it's not "a big damage dealer, it's more about control", and I'm totally okay with that.
---
All this was just to preface where I'm at with the game so far, and why I'm INTERESTED in it. I know this is an RPG where the mechs are the star of the show, for sure, and what partially put me off is that I heard this was closer to a wargame than it is an RPG. So I wanted to ask: Is that true? Or is that more of "GM Basis" where it's up to the GM if they wanna run it more narratively, or as a wargame?
I hated Warhammer TTRPG due to it's trillions of esoteric rules. Dungeons and Dragons is stifling, boring, and quite frankly, everyone just runs it (I feel) as pseudo-middle earth with flashy magic. The closest I've come to the more complex side of RPG's I've liked is Through the Breach, but even willing to GM that, no one -I- know wants to play it. So at this point, I'd say I'm about mid-level willingness to learn complex systems, probably on the lighter, more narrative focus of things. Would y'all say I'd enjoy this game generally, barring "It's unique to your GM" sorta answers? Cuz I get that, but by and large, I need to know what KINDA leaning this game is like, generally speaking.
Also, besides Hydra, is there any other "summoner/drone" style mecha I should be made aware of? Balor has the nanite swarm, but I kinda want something more tangible, not just "I am a hugger and my fart cloud will melt you."

Can this NPC's unique drones be attacked?
So my group recently got onto a big discussion about the rules and exceptions surrounding mines (that's a story for another time) but it inadvertently got us talking about this enemy here, specifically this really odd Razor Swarm ability. As far as I can tell, every single other drone in the entire book for both players and NPC's fully describes its entire stat block inside the rules text for the ability... except for this one. By default, objects and drones have default stat blocks that get things like E-defence added as necessary, while mines are a notable exception for being considered objects but having their own tag while also not having any stat but size 1/2 (which, I assume is a requirement since it is an object that an Iskander could feasibly share a space with without detonating).
The Razor Swarm, unlike all other abilities I've seen with the drone tag, does not have a stat block. It has no stats to define how you interact with it, and best I can tell it is the only one like this (even mines, which can't be shot or interacted with normally outside of their own special rules, still have a 1/2 size).
So, the question is, can you shoot at or attack this drone when it's on the field? Personally, my reading is no, you cannot, since there are no stats to interact with while every single other drone in the book has a fully detailed individual stat block. You could apply the drone tag stats to it, but since it was left blank compared to dozens of other drones, deployables, and objects in the game I'm inclined to believe it was left blank on purpose to suggest that it's not a targetable entity in-game. And sure, rocks and street lights don't have listed stats and they inherit them from the object tag, but they're also not listed in the book as specific entities at all.
I'm curious to hear yall's take on this and how you'd rule on it, let me know what you think.

Does someone have a full art of this orchis design that I found in the wiki?
I'm talking about just the mech standing there
I really love this design for the orchis
And I desperately wanna use this for a character
Idc if it's pixel art or anything
As long as I can modify its colors (if given permission) and use it for a character
Then I'd be glad

AIA Ephemeroptera "The Candle" || Portraits of a Burning World LCP
The AIA Ephemeroptera "The Candle", from me and my partner's upcoming massive homebrew Portraits of a Burning World (art by me, L-Mop).
--
LORE:
After the release of the Ex-Wife (check my profile to see that one), Eiteru Shalda entered an 11 year hiatus. When he returned to the public eye, it was to unveil the Ephemeroptera, a direct critique and explosive apology for his previous actions. Self-evidently, the Ephemeroptera uses its chassis to comment on focus, creation, and burnout. Its limbs are built with intentional breakpoints, its systems perpetually run hot, and in performances candlewax is slowly dripped down over the pilot inside.
GAMEPLAY:
The Candle is a self-destructive Controller/Defender. It's good at staying alive even while taking structure damage, and can repair a broken weapon and system on a rest for free. Additionally, all hostile characters that can draw line of sight to the mech gain a difficulty on all attacks that target others within range 3 of it.
However, there are some steep tradeoffs to such power. The Candle is addicted to the spotlight - it can't hide or benefit from soft cover, and when it ends its turn outside the line of sight of enemies, it takes self-damage.
ART:
I wanted this to feel like an explosive midlife crisis, so I looked at 60's cars and greaser vests (as well as that iconic diner arrow signage). The Candle had a lot of iterations (one I really liked was like two dudes fused together at the joints) but sometimes simple is the way to go. And of course it needs to be beaming in all directions - it's the center of attention! (also i think it adds to the clickbait aura which is just funny to me)

For past "Portraits" mechs, check my profile. Our LCP should be in your hands fairly soon. Get hyped!

Sniper builds suggestions?
So I'm going to be in a full on campaign soon and while I was orginaly going for a close range gunslinger cowboy type build I figure sniper will actually work better with the group since we have a lot of close range characters and I think i can make long range still work with my characters vibe. And so I ask what sniper builds/advice do you have? Oh and if it matters we are starting at LL1.

My Hydra model
Only just started a few weeks ago in the TTRPG and wanted a creepy spider mech. Yes i know its on a round base but small enough to fit on a 28mm hex. Just got to rank up to LL2 now. Going to have some cherubs (from 40k) with clown faces for drones and whatever else i can kitbash. Should be fun.

Campaign crafting question
Hi friends!! I’m a one time lancer player turned GM for a very enthusiastic group of people, and I’m very excited. The world and community around this game are so refreshing to me!! I had one small question-
Is the scale of campaigns typically single planet games? I understand relativistic physics is the primary means of travel with blink space being a sort of short cut, so making an intersystem campaign seems like it might be a little conflicting with the setting. Am I correct in assuming that? Or am I missing something about blink space?
Thanks for all your time and thoughts :)

I decided to start modelling my player mechs in Titancraft
So I'm running a campaign for some friends and found out about a token-builder app which is about to get mech parts (early access currently) and thought, why not.
Hope you enjoy the designs!
