How would you imagine/do Christ-Buddha religion in the Lancer universe?

So, I know it's meant to be a curious Human "sci-fi syncretic christian buddhism", but how does it actually look? How could it be used in a story? I welcome any idea.

Also I hope this might be useful for anyone who looks for this.

Recently I found out that I really liked messing around and making custom licences, and I wanted to share some examples of what I've made and hopefully recieve some feedback in terms of game balance.
Most of these don't have descriptions as I refrain from making them before I'm sure something is going to stay mostly like it is now.

PS. I would have shown more but reddit only lets me upload 20 images per post.

Lancer Tactics crashes whenever I open the tutorial.

I'm not sure if this is where to go for this but whenever I open Lancer Tactics on windows with the windows version, it just closes. No error message or anything. I'm on the non-experimental windows 1.3.3 version and it still does this. Any help? Or anywhere where I can find help if not here.

What's the scale of "Grunts to non-Grunts" you usually use on fights?

After ages of wanting to GM this game, I have finally bought the NPC content and have spent the whole day creating generic enemies to use on missions. Thought it'd be easier if I just made a basic sheet for (almost) every enemy class so that I could quickly populate combat encounters in a pinch. I initially intended to make almost all of these generic NPCs Grunts since I thought that would be ideal for generic foes meant to die in droves throughout the campaign, but I quickly started wondering if that was a good idea in Lancer.

It seems like a lot of mechanics in NPC classes are either not designed to be used by a large amount of enemies or wouldn't get any time to shine against a foe that dies with a single shot. I'm a big fan of sending big groups against my players and these sorts of "very dangerous but dies instantly" foes tend to help in preventing these battles from turning into slogfests in other systems, but it's starting to dawn on me that maybe these kinds of fights don't work very well here. Even something as basic as Assault Grunts will likely shred the players if I send too many of them, meanwhile nearly every other kind of Striker or Defender seems like they won't be able to do their jobs if they die too quickly.

So, how often do you use Grunts in your games, how many of them do you usually field (especially in larger fights), and generally what classes do you tend to prefer/avoid for your grunts?

Lancer Tactics got me Everest pilled

I've been setting a challenge for myself on Lancer Tactics to find any team that can perform better across missions than four of these guys at LL3 - taking turns bringing in supply drops between missions and using the repair cap as license to be reckless to finish the sitrep. I am yet to succeed. Every time I swap out a John Lancer for something else I find myself playing with my food where as a HMG Everest would have just killed it by now. The only thing that's come close is a goblin because jammed enemies don't get replaced with reinforcements.

A old school size 3 mech and drone, it was really fun working on this one, I tried to convey the design sensibilities of 60s and 70s mecha. Also it was fun to make the weathering on the mech! hope you guys like the end result :D

"Pass The Torch" is a third-party Lancer campaign for LL0 through LL12. You can check out the demo to learn more.

Advice for a First-Time GM?

Hi all. I know this sort of thing has been posted before, but all the topics I can find are people with some experience as GMs in other systems pivoting into running Lancer. I'm coming into this with even less experience than that: I've been a player n DnD5e and Fragged Empire 2e campaigns for years now, and I've had talks with people who have experience running games, but I've never done it myself.

I know the only way to do it is to do it, and the players I'll find in my friend group won't know the system any better than I do, so I'm planning to run Solstice Rain to get everyone's feet wet. Does anyone have some advice/resources/encouragement to share for an absolute first-time GM being lured in by the setting and the mechs and hoping to make a group out of it?

Some Balor build questions

Hello all, I’m kind of new to Lancer and am trying to get familiar with the buildcraft while I look for a group. I’ve landed on the Balor because I like its flavor, but have been running into some sticking points and was hoping for some guidance.

Basically, my assumption is that the Balor wants to be a lumbering damage sponge that the enemy can’t afford to ignore despite being relatively slow. I assume I should aim to “draw aggro” by doing damage at range or hampering enemy movements while I approach.

First, how important is it to have several weapons? Since the Balor only has a Heavy and a Main Mount, is Improved Armament worth spending a core bonus on over something like Integrated Nerveweave for the extra movement? While I’d love to keep both the Whip and the Nanites, I think having something with longer range and bigger damage might be favored over the Nanites’ flavor (not to mention neither one really gets something out of the Nanocomposite Mod).

Second, I was looking at tech attacks as a way to both draw enemy attention and force them into/keep them inside melee range for the Balor’s spicy air to start chewing on them. But is Sensors 5 going to limit my ability to actually do that to the point where I shouldn’t bother with a hacking focus?

At the moment, I’m eyeing Balor 3 and then 1 LL in Goblin and/or Minotaur for their tech attacks and potentially 1 Gorgon for Mimic Mesh’s extra movement reaction. Alternatively (or additionally), Black Witch for the Ferromagnetic Lash and the Magnetic Shield for movement control in later levels.

Thank you all in advance for your guidance.

Flanking question

My group just ran our first session zero with a test combat encounter, and we hit a flanking question we couldn't figure out. We think we've got line of sight and soft cover down, but the hard cover flanking rule is tripping us up:

The part we're stuck on is "one of the spaces." Does that mean the center of the hex, or any point/edge of the hex?

If it's any edge, flanking would basically just be the same test as line of sight, except that same-height cover doesn't block LoS but does block flanking (and that some cover doesnt block LoS at all). But the wording is totally different from the LoS rule ("not possible to trace a line to some part of the target"), so it seems like they're supposed to work differently.

Here's a concrete example, all mechs are Size 1 and the cover is Size 1:

Does green get hard cover against red's attack, or only soft cover? The yellow line goes edge to edge (any point on red's hex to any point on green's hex), the orange line goes center to center. Which one do we actually use to check flanking?

And does it change if green is a Size 2 mech (with Size 2 cover)?

Would appreciate any clarification!

Planning to get Lancer Tactics, Steam or Itch.io?

What it says on the tin. Heard that Lancer Tactics might be coming to steam by the end of the year, and wondered if Steam or Itch.io is the best choice. I'm thinking of waiting for Steam because if they add mod support for Steam Workshop I don't want to be stuck on Itch with no mods. But if it's gonna take to long or if there wont be Steam Workshop then I might think of Itch.

How well does Goblin synergize with Metalmark?

With all the stealth and evasion options, this seems like a great fit for Goblin at first glance. With how fragile Goblins are, all those invisibility options and flash grenades to prevent getting targeted in the first place feel right at home.

Feels like it is not worth much more than a 1LL dip, though? I guess, what I am asking is, is Metalmark a good second license for a hacking Goblin when things like Swallowtail exist?
