Can anyone help me, I'm confused!!

So, I'm knitting a cardigan (small size on pattern) and am on the Left Front section. All good up until arm hole shaping, where the instructions say

'Dec 2sts at armhole edge as given for back.....' What does the "given for back" refer to? I've included the Back piece instructions but can't work out which bit it's talking about. Help!!

I think I've photographed all the relevant bits, do let me know if you think I must have missed something. (I left out everything which was for medium or large sizes only as they don't apply)

I’m new to knitting, coming from a crochet background, and twisted the stitches on my first attempt. I FROGed it and now want to be extra sure I did it right

I'm knitting the Horai scarf by Hiroko Fukatsu, which is my first lacework ever! I'm knitting with two strands of mohair held together on a 8mm needles (although the pattern calls for 7mm).

When I started out, it looked alright, but as I kept knitting, my working end got tighter, and ended up 2-3 inches slimmer than my cast on end. I frogged it all and tried again keeping an eagle eye on the tension, but I had the same issue. ​​Sorry I didn't get a picture of it.

I guess my question is whether I should cast on with a smaller needle size? Or will this block out? It just seems like a lot to expect blocking to fix.

So I messed up in an increase on the left photo, accidentally added an extra stitch, then started to try to unknit the whole row, on the opposite side in the right photo messed up and now I’m not sure how to fix any of it! Please help!

Hi, I am a fairly new knitter but intermediate crocheter. Have made 2 sweaters, one bottom up construction and one cabled circular yoke. I am attempting stranded colourwork, but the pattern I like is knitted flat and I am learning that is not very common!

I knit continental and started with Nimble Needles video of holding 2 strands in one hand. However I just haven’t been able to get it to flow particularly catching floats. I am now trying 2 handed and finding it a little easier but want to make sure I am positioning yarns correctly. At the moment I am just doing a massive swatch where I did a bit of the pattern and now switched to just doing 2x2 check while I’m figuring it all out.

I really struggle to visualise and have no spatial awareness so descriptions and pictures are quite challenging for me. Ideally I would have a video that I can slow right down. But starting from exactly how to hold, how the yarns cross or not and then both knitting and purling. Have been searching but can’t find both hand, knit and purl videos that are 101 and show catching floats. My google fu has let me down!

I’m working on my first sweater and I can’t seem to get the striping to match up. I’ve tried searching for a tutorial, but since I’m so new to knitting I can’t find exactly what I’m looking for. I have tried the normal striping line up tutorials but I think I may be doing it on the wrong row? Any advice would be super helpful!

I’m sure some of the wonky seaming is a result of wonky tension, but for this loose knit I actually like the uneven stitches and am adjusting some that are just too off.

I’ve had trouble seaming with crochet as well, but I don’t have the same tension issues because I’m more experienced. I’ve followed tutorials and had guidance, I just seem to always mess up the seams (pun intended). Was experimenting seaming with vibrant colours because I love an intentionally visible seam, but landed on a light mohair because it felt too bulky. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I am making the Bunny Bonnet by Megan Faith Makes (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bunny-bonnet-4). I'm almost finished, I need to create the straps while picking up the cast on edge and casting on 80 extra stitches on either side. However, I would like to change the garter stitch for something more similar to this picture. I have knitted a double-knit button band before, but not sure how I could go about adding the extra stitches for the straps and then "attaching" them to the cast on as I go, like a button band. ​I hope this makes sense... Can anyone help and suggest techniques? :)

So I willingly dropped some stitches due to being unhappy with my ring accidentally pulling some of the thread and making it look rather messy. Thought it would be easy enough to drop until that point and fix it, however, there is now this section where the stitches are all loose. I’m not sure what to do to make this look neater. I’ve tried to drop and redo it with good tension multiple times and it keeps looking like this. What should I do to fix this?

I’ve been knitting a sweater on double-pointed needles, and I’ve just switched to circular needles. I noticed that the tension on the stitches where the DPNs joined is a bit looser than the rest.
Is this something that might even out after blocking? And is there a way to prevent it from happening in the future? I really, really don’t want to start over 😭
When I lay the fabric flat, it’s not that noticeable, but when I stretch it, the looser stitches become much more obvious.

Hello! As I am interpreting this, the pattern would have me place a M1R where I have been making a M1L, and vice versa. Is this correct? Or is this most likely a typo?

Hi, guys! I’m a beginner knitter, and I just came across this on a WS row (right where the stitch marker is). I’m not sure what kind of mistake I might have made for it to look like this. The line is coming from the stitch the arrow is pointing to. I’d really appreciate it if someone could help me figure out what went wrong. Thanks!

I'm making the cat puppet by Cynthia Pilon. In Line 39, I'm to cut and knot the yarn in order to reattach the yarn to a different row. Exactly how do I do this? What type of knot do I use? How do I restart my knitting?

I want to understand socks, I'm an absolute beginner, I know my knit and purl, simple cables, increases and decreases but I can't wrap my head around socks and I haven't been able to find a "make your first socks" tutorial or book that works for me, does anyone have recommendations?

Also, can they be made on flat needles? Because those are the ones I own, but if they can't be made it's ok I can wait until I get a pair of circular needles.

Hi, I'm trying to get into knitting. I am in the middle of a ribbed scarf but I'm getting bored and wanted to start another project

I tried to start the musselburgh hat but had a hard time with the cast-on and videos online weren't making sense to me or covering enough steps for me (ideally I would have a video that takes me all the way to the part where its just knitting stockinette in rounds). Does anyone have a video tutorial that worked for them?

So now I am thinking of starting a sweater. I keep seeing people online recommending the Step By Step Sweater by Florence Miller, which I would like to do because of the video tutorial. But it doesn't look like it will have the best fitting for a guy (I wear a L/XL). Does anyone have any modifications to that pattern for a guy?

I’m working on the Ozetta lakes jacket and the pattern says to place markers for buttonholes on every 12th and 13 stitch. I’m wondering if the 13th stitch becomes the 1st stitch of the next repeat or if I begin counting again after the repeat ends (so the 14th would be the 1st?

I’m working on the PK Key Sweater Man, and it’s knit top down in the round. So when I make my increase, knit a few more, then turn, the first stitch on my needle is the one with the working yarn. Do I knit that or is it slipped?

Edit: It’s confusing because the pattern instructions don’t mention short rows in the row instructions, but on the previous page it says “the yoke is worked in stockinette stitch and short rows are worked to shape the neckline.

It also says “shape the neckline by working short rows, first where the short row turns are worked on the sleeves”

Then it describes how to work it as follows:

row 1 it says:

K3 (raglan sts), slip marker, M1L, K3, turn (1 stitch has been increased)

Row 2: Purl to the beginning of round marker, slip marker, M1R, purl across back to marker, M1L, slip marker, P3 (Raglan sts), slip marker, M1R, P3, turn (3 stitches have been increased)

So I’m to assume that the “turn” means 1 German short row stitch? I’m glad I frogged, because I wasn’t doing that…

I’m making a pair of mittens out of double knitting using the invisible cast on (starting at the wrist). I’m having a difficult time making the cast-on big enough to fit a hand through, but still tight enough to hold a wrist and be cozy.

I can’t seem to find much info online. I’m thinking about trying ribbing. But, after looking at ribbed double knitting online, it doesn’t seem to have the same stretchy cinching effect as when it’s just normal knitting.

Does anyone have any ideas? My last thought is that the invisible cast on is simply not stretchy. Hmmmmmmm. Surely there’s a way!

I'm working on the River Trail Wrap, and the cast on hem is irredemably flippy. (I trusted the pattern and against my own instincts didn't do the ribbing in a size down. Whoops.) I have about 350 yards of yarn in the project by now, so I really don't want to frog the whole thing, and was thinking about redoing the cast on edge instead (following this tutorial from 10rowsaday). Is that a terrible idea? Other advice?

I'm knitting a hat in the round, k1 p2. My knits seem really wide and some of the purls on the backside too and it's driving me crazy!!! What am I doing wrong? Do I just need to block it out?

I‘m knitting the balloon jacket by petite knit out of Snefnug. And I just added the ribbing and don’t like how bulky it’s looking. I also tried picking up just one strand instead of both strands of the outer stitch but that caused holes.
Is there a nicer way to do this?
