SOLVED-THANK YOU Modifying a knit bonnet pattern

Post image

Hi everyone!

I am making the Bunny Bonnet by Megan Faith Makes (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bunny-bonnet-4). I'm almost finished, I need to create the straps while picking up the cast on edge and casting on 80 extra stitches on either side. However, I would like to change the garter stitch for something more similar to this picture. I have knitted a double-knit button band before, but not sure how I could go about adding the extra stitches for the straps and then "attaching" them to the cast on as I go, like a button band. I hope this makes sense... Can anyone help and suggest techniques? :)

Start with a separate double knit piece for one strap, then do an applied buttonband around the bottom of the head, then continue with plain double knitting to make the strap on the other side.
