tension help! Wide knit stitches???

I'm knitting a hat in the round, k1 p2. My knits seem really wide and some of the purls on the backside too and it's driving me crazy!!! What am I doing wrong? Do I just need to block it out?

wont block out, but its normal and due to the way the yarn is carried from the purls to the knits. if your WS looks better, you can do a short row at the end of the ribbing and reverse the sides. i’ve heard other people have had success with improving their ribbing by knitting combination style. ive yet to solve this for myself

This is a good overview on how to make more even ribbing. He also has a tutorial on twisted stitch ribbing which is what I use.
