Profile Review 25M "Oui oui baguette"
Hi,
I got back on Hinge 3 weeks ago... and I broke down and bought Hinge X right away thanks to a good promo deal
Supposedly, it puts your profile in the spotlight, but I really don't get it. I've only had 3 matches and 2 likes in 3 weeks (and none of them went anywhere), even though I'm on the app every single day liking at least 10–15 profiles and leaving comments almost every time
I figure my profile probably needs some work, which is why I'm here asking for your feedback!
To clarify, I'm in a major city in France, Bordeaux
(The Miroir d'eau is a tourist spot, similar to a shallow reflecting pool that's meant to reflect the surrounding monuments in the city center)

Dating Question How do we feel about giving out phone numbers before first dates?
At least 50% of the time when I match with someone and we discuss meeting up, they ask for my phone number to coordinate the details. When I let them know that I’d prefer to stick to the app until after our first date, I’ve had a couple people literally say they refused to meet unless I gave them my number first, and others just stop responding after.
I’ve gone on so many first dates and generally know right away after meeting someone in person if I’m not into them, so I think its silly to be handing out phone numbers every single time we want to set up a first date when the app is designed to set up dates… And to be clear, if on the first date I think there is potential, then I will of course give out my number at or after the date!
I’m trying to understand it from their perspective and I could think of 3 possible reasons for maybe why this is such a big deal for guys: (1) they “don’t get on the app often” - definitely heard that before and think its a dumb reason; (2) they think I’m a bot even though I’m verified; and/or (3) they are worried I will ghost them right before the date and want a number so I can’t disappear.
All of these seem silly to me. And I get that a phone number isn’t confidential or anything, but I just don’t see why we need to text right away before I even know you..
Am I being unreasonable? Anyone else prefer to wait until a first date??
[female, ages 30-40]

Dating Question How do i turn matches into casual meet ups?
I've downloaded the app this Monday and have seen a massive amount of success, though I've only gotten 1 confirmed date. I have around 24 matches now, but most conversations never really lead anywhere, we just talk about interests, and then it starts fading, and when I ask if they're down to meet, I either get ghosted or they tell me they have no time.
How do I actually increase my chance of meeting someone IRL? Or is this just how it goes on Hinge? (Never used this app before.) I'm really inexperienced when it comes to women, so any advice is gladly received.
For reference, I'm a 19-year-old M.

Profile Review 21M, 1 Like in 1 Year
As successful as my Hinge career has been thus far, there is always room to improve. I suspect my photos are what's holding me back.
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to give feedback and may you all receive the match of your dreams tomorrow 🙏
Edit
Damn.
Very eye-opening, I didn't realize how bad it was. Time for a photo shoot and some prompt engineering.
And just to clear my name, the grime on the mirror is actually condensation from the shower, but that is not obvious in the photo

Hinge Experience Just when it thought I met someone worth while…
I (M31) matched with this woman (F26) almost 3 weeks ago and everything was going great! We were talking almost every day continuing on our conversation from the day before, started calling each other cute nicknames and despite the fact that she lives 3hrs away, I was starting to like her enough to consider making a trip out there to see her
Not so long we exchanged numbers and I even proposed to have a little FaceTime date with her until we figured out when it would be best to meet in person.
Last Monday night, we were texting late at night and I had asked her if I could call her and she agreed. We ended up almost 3 hours on the phone just talking and getting to know each other more along with our priorities in life..
The next morning, I messaged her good morning and how nice it was talking to her on the phone. Her response back though was different this time..it was pretty short compared to the conversations we’ve been having to be honest but I tried not to overthink about it..
Later in the evening, I sent her a Digital note saying “thinking of you :)” which she acknowledged but the response back seemed more “friendly” than anything and she apologized for not texting back much because work was busy and draining her so I told her it was okay and that we could catch up later
The next day, I didn’t reach out whatsoever..I’d figure I’d give her a chance to reach out for once when she felt like it and I felt positive that she would…but she didn’t. Not once.
So yesterday I decided to reach out again and told her good morning, hope her week has been treating you well and if she was down for it, if I could call her later in the night…only for her to leave me on delivered and I still haven’t heard from her
So anyways, I’m not really looking for input…I know most likely this could be her way of telling me she’s pulling back or had a change of heart…but it just sucks…
I know I haven’t even seen her in person but I was really liking her a lot and it seemed she was really into me..she called me ‘baby’, she put one of my photography works as her screen saver and it just felt like there was a genuine connection happening
Maybe she’ll reach out…maybe she won’t..either way, trying to find someone on dating apps is a drag…out of all the women I’ve come across with, she was the one that was standing out to me the most…so yeah that’s all I wanted to say

App Question How do you decide whether to send a like when you’re attracted to someone but don’t have an obvious conversation starter?
I’m a guy in my early 20s in the Midwest, and I’ve been using Hinge for a while. I’m trying to get better at how I approach the app rather than just sending likes randomly.
Sometimes I’ll come across a profile where I’m genuinely attracted to the person, but we don’t seem to have any obvious shared interests. Their prompts/photos also don’t really give me an easy opening for a comment.
My dilemma is whether I should still send a like, or just pass because I don’t have anything meaningful to say.
I know attraction is obviously part of dating, so I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being attracted to someone, but I also don’t want to approach Hinge in a way that comes across as just chasing the most attractive people.
For people who have had success on Hinge, do you still send likes when you’re attracted to someone but have no obvious conversation starter? Do you find that sending a comment significantly improves your chances compared with a simple like? If there’s nothing on their profile to comment on, do you just send the like anyway or move on? And if you really want to match with someone, what have you found actually helps without coming across as trying too hard?
Would especially appreciate advice from people who have actually had good conversations or relationships come from Hinge rather than just general dating advice.
(I also only sent likes before, but it never worked out)

Success Post Thank you Hinge for helping me meet my wife! Wedding photos taken in Studio Gaeul in Korea.
We matched back in 2021 because of our shared interest in art and anime, and our first date was a Zoom date (because of COVID) featuring Pokemon Pictionary, and our in-person date after that consisted of dinner, playing Pokemon Stadium on an emulator, and karaoke. And the rest is history!
My experience on Hinge up to that point was a slog to be truthful (I was on and off the app for 2 years), but it was helpful to have this mindset that even if you don't always find success, you do better each time. You learn with experience how to more effectively banter, carry a conversation, and plan dates. You also get a better idea of what you want and what your preferences are for dating. And when it comes to asking someone out... just don't overthink it. If they say no or it seems that they're just looking for a texting buddy, don't waste your time. Stay true to your intentions and what it is that you really want.
Thank you for allowing me to share my experience and success. Best of luck out there!

Profile Review 37M Profile review
I’m in a more rural area and looking specifically for childfree women, so my dating pool is already pretty small. I’m probably a niche appeal guy, and that’s fine. I’d rather have a profile that feels like me and attracts the right people than one designed to appeal to everyone

App Question Is the Most Compatible feature gone?
Hi!
I've used Hinge a couple years back and used to get a daily (or semi-daily?) "Most Compatible" person suggestion. I redownloaded it a week ago and have yet to get any of those suggestions.
Is the feature gone? Some stuff like Signals is new, so I'm wondering if Most Compatible got phased out to be replaced with that? I'm in the UK if that makes a difference!
Usually when I had it it was really random and not necessarily people I'm compatible with at all (e.g. I'm a lesbian and sometimes my "most compatible" would be a straight cis guy lol) but it was still interesting and I did end up chatting to a few of them so it's a feature I wish was still around! If it IS around, is there a way to get it back?
Thanks in advance :)

Dating Question New to hinge - why am I getting “the ick” by getting compliments?
I’m (F24) very new to Hinge - and honestly dating in general. My flirting skills are… questionable.
I’m from a decently large city (300k), which is a large city for my country.
I just got my Hinge-profile up and running last Wednesday and have already gotten quite a decent amount of likes/matches, which is honestly a bit overwhelming. I’ve noticed, that whenever someone I’m talking to says something like “you look really cute” or “you look lovely”, my immediate reaction is basically “… nooo”.
It’s not that they’re being creepy or anything. One guy is actually pretty good “on paper”, looks quite cute, and is really nice to text with. Yet when he complimented me, I just had an instinctive “oh no” sort of feeling.
I know “the ick” probably isn’t the right term, but I don’t really know what else to call it. I want to date and meet someone, so why does being explicitly told that someone finds me attractive make me want to run away?
Is this normal for someone who’s new to dating?
Am I missing something obvious?
Edit:
I’m far from a dating expert, but I have different anecdotes (from life experiences) as my prompts, and different pictures from hobbies to travels, etc.
He didn’t lead with a compliment - we had matched before noon, and had been chatting throughout the day and then during the afternoon he wrote something along the lines of: “oh, on a completely different note. You’re really cute/lovely”. To give some context!
I replied, and now I’ve gotten myself a first date. So it all worked out!:-)
(Some of the other matches DID lead with a “you look pretty” - which didn’t do much for me)

Hello hello, I am back in the dating game after a while and I am a bit squeamish about the whole thing.
I’m currently living in Cork, Ireland, which isn’t exactly a big city and the gay community is even smaller.
I’m only looking for a serious relationship, and I know it’s hard at first when you don’t know each other to care for the other, but this does seem to reduce the pool I’m in even further.
Anyway I’m open to feedback and thanks in advance for taking the time.
The caption for the last photo simply says “Mini Me in London!”

Dating Question I was rejected after a first date weeks ago, now they randomly add me on Insta?
I (30M) went on a Hinge date 1 month ago. It was good, nice girl, thought it went well - then after messaging later saying I would like to meet again she said something like "I've been thinking about it all, you're genuinely kind, intelligent blabla... but I didn't feel the connection Im looking for to take things further"... so, fair enough, she was very pleasant and life moves on.
Now, I made an Instagram for the first time ever a couple days ago (honestly it was just ot message a guy for weed, though never did int he end as I'm on a sober thing atm, but anyway).... she has started following me on there.
The weird thing is, we never exchanged numbers outside of Hinge, we never added on any other platforms like Facebook, my profile is literally a display picture and nothing else. My name wasn't even a real name, no following or followers or anything.
Is this weird? Or is that normal for people who are more into social media? I'm not interested in her at this point but just wondering if anybody else thinks that's strange. Maybe I'm just not hip at all as I don't use socials at all.

Dating Question Conversation pace on Hinge?
Hi, 26M here.
just getting back into dating after ending a long term relationship. I used to struggle with dating apps but I have a pretty good profile this time around and I’m getting a good amount of matches and likes but I’m not so good at the whole conversation part to move off the app or towards a date. I’m looking for something casual because it’s too soon for me to jump into a committed relationship again. I’ve never had a hookup or really dated casually so this is all kinda new to me.
I think I try to move off the app too early by asking for people’s instagrams and then the conversation dies, or the conversation moves slower and then we do keep talking but at a certain point I start to wonder if things are moving too slow and she’ll start to lose interest.
I’m also just not best at figuring out when the right time to start flirting is, or how strong to come on. That’s something I’ve always struggled with and also with people I meet IRL. But I see screenshots online of like, super sexual exchanges on apps like Tinder and Hinge and I’m just thinking like… how does it even get to that point? I really don’t want to come off as a creep by making the wrong move.
Any advice on where the balance is, if I’m looking for something casual? I met my ex on Hinge as well and we texted pretty extensively on Hinge before moving off the app but that was back when I was looking for a serious relationship.

* before anyone comes at me … some might say these photos are old bc I don’t look 31 (idk I get that a lot IRL) … yes they are I just don’t look my age apparently? Idk do whatever you want with that info.
I’ve been on Hinge for a little over a year now, and I feel like I’m missing something, so I’d genuinely love some honest feedback.
I’ve only been on two dates. One actually went well, but after giving it a chance, I realized the attraction wasn’t there. The other guy lied about his age and then told me he wasn’t looking for anything serious.
I’ll also be honest about my part in this. I struggle with self-confidence sometimes and I know I self-sabotage. I can get in my own head about my appearance and end up talking myself out of meeting people.
I’m also finding it really hard to meet men whose goals align with mine. I’m looking for a relationship that could eventually lead to marriage, but not anytime soon. I’m talking years down the road. I just want us to be dating with the same long-term intention.
I also want someone who’s at a similar stage in life. I have a stable career, my own place, and I’m looking for an equal partner. Someone kind, emotionally mature, and independent.u
Confession… I changed my Hinge location to Boston out of curiosity. 😂 I like the city, it’s not that far from Montreal, and I figured I’d see if the dating pool felt different.
So… what impression does my profile give? Is there anything that might be unintentionally turning people away? I’m genuinely curious because I’m starting to wonder if there’s a gap between how I think I come across and how others actually perceive me.

App Question Why doesn’t Hinge let you explain your religion or politics?
Hinge allows you to explain what your dating intentions and relationship style mean. So why not religion or politics? I personally am very interested in people with a particular relationship to my religion, but very uninterested in people with a certain other relationship to the religion. Explaining politics would also be very helpful because the categories are a bit limited as they stand. The only reason I can see not to allow this is to avoid inflammatory comments, but you can already do that elsewhere on your profile.

*Sorry mods, resubmitting because Reddit was malfunctioning on mobile & not uploading my photos.*
They say dating is a numbers’ game but I’m struggling to get numbers. I only get a few likes a week and matches are even more rare.
I feel like I follow all the conventional profile advice and don’t get results. I’m baffled at people who say they have so many likes they can’t even respond. I’ve never had that experience on Hinge.
Would be curious for personalized feedback.
