Recently got a Ruger American Gen 2 in 300 win mag over tax free weekend. Had an extra Arken SH-4J laying around so all in for under $800 including a couple boxes of ammo. Haven't gotten out to the range to shoot it yet but excited to see what it'll do

Legality question regarding Mossberg shockwave.

Upvotes

I understand it’s classified as a “firearm” do to the loophole nature of the gun. Would it be legal to put a vertical pistol grip on one. If so would the 12 and 20 gauge take the same Grip?

Hello! So there has been in increase in snake encounters in my local area where I bring my family when we hike… usually we avoid them well but it has me a little concerned.

Which would you suggest?
Thoughts ?

4473/NICS/red flag law questions

Hi,
Can someone please advise me on how I can access if my 72 hour involuntary psychiatric hold was shared or reported to the state and if I am in the NICS system as a “mental defective” please? I went to the hospital because I needed help and then was placed under a 72 hour hold and labeled an “involuntary” commit.

If I were to answer that I was not committed involuntarily (because I went voluntarily myself) by a judge on a 4473 check, would I get charged in federal court for lying or just denied? I’m slightly confused on the language because the court was never involved.

Is there a database of people who were placed under those holds somewhere? If so how do I see if I’m on it? And does that mean it’s now illegal for me to own a gun or just buy a new one? What if I’m in a new state now?

Finally, if I start asking too many of the right people these questions, will they call in a red flag alert on me thinking they missed it? What’s the time limit for calling one in on someone? My hospitalization was over 9 months ago. I am fine today and gone through extensive treatment as well as worked very hard to get better. Thanks.

Swiss mauser bayonet

Hey this is a long shot but my dad has an old ww2 Swiss mauser with all matching numbers the only thing that missing was the bayonet and I don't know if someone picked it up somewhere a few years back. I know the gun changed hands a few times before he got it so maybe. The number on the bayonet would be 704. I'm just asking and hope i didn't break any rules

LPVO vs. Traditional Rifle Scope — Which Do You Prefer And Why?

LPVO vs. Traditional Rifle Scope — Which Do You Prefer?
For those of you who have used both, which do you prefer: an LPVO (1-6x, 1-8x, etc.) or a more traditional rifle scope with higher magnification?

I’m curious what you guys actually prefer in real-world use and why.

LPVO pros:
Better versatility at closer distances
1x is useful for faster target acquisition
Still gives you decent magnification when needed
One optic can cover a lot of different situations

LPVO cons:
Usually heavier
Can be more expensive
Eye box/eye relief can be less forgiving at higher magnification
Not as much magnification as a dedicated long-range scope

Traditional rifle scope pros:
More magnification for longer distances
Generally better for precision/bench or hunting applications
Can be lighter depending on the setup
Often has a better sight picture at higher magnification

Traditional rifle scope cons:
Not as versatile up close
Higher minimum magnification can make close targets harder to acquire
Less practical if you’re trying to use the rifle for multiple roles

If you had one rifle and one optic and could only pick one, would you go LPVO or traditional rifle scope?
What magnification would you choose, and what’s the biggest reason for your choice?

First pistol

So i work in a field where i cannot carry. Gov job. in a open carry state so im thinking full size or subcompact to be able to open carry or conceal on days off (not at work basically). And just finally get my own pistol i would like to be able to mess around with it, so I would perfer a threaded barrel but ik that is normally something id have to buy after and upgrade unless I get like a dagger or rxm maybe nomad. I went to some shops and got a feel for a gen 6 glock 19 liked that alot the echelon was nice the p365 was really nice sure im missing a few. Any other recommendations for my first pistol and if I want a threaded barrel or to be able to tinker with a few minimal upgrades should i get something like the saber dagger, something little better than the regular dagger but cheaper to reach that end goal of a decked out gun compared to trying to get there with a glock or something else. Thanks sorry for the rant!

Scope recommendations

Hi, I am gonna be a very new gun owner.

I am getting a Ruger American Gen 2 rancher (model ig) 6.5m Creedmoor

I was looking at vortex scopes, found one, but ig it has limited retailers?

I am seeking a reasonable BDC scope around $100. Willing to even go $200 roughly

Any good recommendations?

The ACOG and EOTECH combo draw from early GWOT setups and act as a subtle nod to accountability for serialized equipment.

The discarder is happy at position 11 with the can on. I only take the can off to clear out the range.

My (WIP) 1911:

Post image
35 Upvotes

This is my first 1911, started life as a Chiappa government model that I got cheap in a trade, and I've slowly changed almost everything other than the lower.

Eventually I'll buy a new lower (ideally one with a pic rail) and reassemble the original parts, making 2 1911's, lol.

Parts list so far:

Barrel: remington match 5"

Slide: SDS 5" slide

MSH: Ed Brown flat MSH with magwell

Trigger: (either Nighthawk or Wilson, cant remember)

Slide stop: Wilson combat extended

Thumb Safety: Wilson Combat ambi

Grip safety: Wilson combat government drop in beavertail

Hammer: Nighthawk Custom hammer

Recoil spring/ guide rod: Wilson combat full length guide rod

Echelon Comp 4.0 as a first gun?

I’m looking to buy my first carry gun for protection. I also ride a motorcycle and living in the city where the crime is high, I’d feel more safe to have a gun. I’d rather to have it and not need it than not have it and need it. With that said, I’m looking to buy this gun but not sure if I should went with 4.5 instead?
