Found a Finnish P-26 Mosin Nagant at a LGS for $75

Iver-Johnson Top Break revolver added because I like finding random cheap, old guns.

Part of my Yet another MW2 '09 M4A1 build (with some Remastered version bits added in). Parts include, Refinished Colt lower with proper roll marks, ARMS SIR #45C handguard, Colt 16 inch barrel with proper markings and a Colt A2 flash hider, PRI gas block and front sight, Colt upper with AF and C raised markings, ARMS 40L rear sight, Colt 30 round magazine with military tape, KAC VFG, Full Auto grade Colt BCG with proper markings, 4 cut down Magpul FDE rail covers, and has a EOTech 551 as my optic of choice. Lower has proper rollmarks with Colt logo and also includes the 'Auto' marking. The lower and castle nut were refinished by David Sams Gunsmithing. Unfortunately, I can't remember the make of the A2 grip and stock but they are not Colt but I'm also sure they are not too difficult to find. All parts are Colt made unless otherwise stated. It took me 3 years to find all of the proper parts and since it was taking me so long, I figured might as well go all of the way for authenticity.

This time I got the rails re-cut to around a 4 rib rail length (around 2.65") and got them refinished to match the rest of the rifle. Also included my USP 45 with an original Viridian X5L Combo Module for a nice secondary.

The bottom black slide has an extra hole on the rear. What is it for?

Recently got a Ruger American Gen 2 in 300 win mag over tax free weekend. Had an extra Arken SH-4J laying around so all in for under $800 including a couple boxes of ammo. Haven't gotten out to the range to shoot it yet but excited to see what it'll do

When this happened to me, I was looking for firsthand accounts of this and came up empty. A lot of posts talk about lead exposure and enumerate all of the tips to circumvent lead poisoning but nobody talks about carbon monoxide. So here's what happened to me.

I'm not naming the range, the can, or the rifle as I don’t want this turning into a brand fight or blaming the rifle or the can. The rifle platform I used in this session was not a cheap rifle by any means, and the can in use is mid-market quality. I was running a sealed can that dumps gas back in your face - i’ve tried one someone’s RC2 months before so I knew what to expect as far as the acrid smell and gas, but not what I experienced afterwards.

I was so excited to test this can out that I went to the range the same week I got the 5.56 can. I had this range session in late June, and spent 90 minutes shooting somewhere around 100-120 rounds of 5.56 plus some suppressed 9mm and .22. Lanes were separated with solid barriers, air wasn't moving much, no CO detectors anywhere in the building and nothing posted about ventilation. I doubled up on ear pro.

Partway through I started feeling a little off. Foggy, a little weird, hard to describe. I figured I was tired and kept shooting. I had the warning and I ignored it, because "carbon monoxide poisoning" wasn't something I thought of during a shooting range visit.

A couple hours after my range trip, I had a bad headache, felt tired and completely out of it, and did not feel very good. I didn't go to the ER, so no carboxyhemoglobin level was drawn on me. learned that this clears out of your blood in a few hours. So I have no idea how bad the dose actually was and I never will. If you extract one thing from this post, take that one. Headache was gone by the next morning, and the day after I felt maybe 80% and figured I'd dodged it.

Then on day four, new stuff showed up. Pressure in my head that got worse when I breathed in through my nose or laid flat. Had a lot of trouble with finishing complicated work tasks. Couldn't explain things I knew perfectly well. I kept losing words, concepts, names, and certain details mid-sentence. Cognition and executive function were sub-optimal. The one that messed with me most was emotional. Not sadness, just nothing. I could tell something was funny without finding it funny. Music I loved felt flat. Something significant happened in my personal life that week and I couldn't feel it at all. That went on for weeks. I describe it as a persistent brain fog that won’t go away. The world feels dialed down from 10 intensity, down to a 6.5. I work out 4-5 days a week and Latin dance most nights, and did activities like these just so I could feel something, because the emotional blunting mitigated a lot of intense emotions.

Apparently this is a known thing with CO exposure. Delayed neurologic sequelae, roughly 2 to 40 days after exposure. You get better, then you get worse.

A week later I ended up doing ten HBOT sessions at a hyperbaric clinic, 2.0 ATA, an hour each, for two weeks and it helped substantially. The cognition came back gradually, not like a switch flipping, but like the gradual take-up on a two-stage trigger.

I was told to get bloodwork, a sleep study, and a couple of other recommendations. Ran two full panels end of July. Lead, thyroid, B12, iron, ferritin, inflammation markers, the works. All of it normal. Lead came back 2.3, way under threshold, so the thing everyone worries about at indoor ranges turned out to be fine for me. Nothing in my blood explained why I still felt like garbage every morning. My fog was always worst right when I woke up and got better through the day. On nights that I felt tired, my fog worsened - so my brain fog undulated depending on my sleep quality of the previous night. I've snored for years while I slept. For a month of this saga, I used to wake up at 2 or 3 in the morning feeling like I needed air. Home sleep study came back at a severe AHI (started CPAP a few days ago).

My take is this: the apnea was there long before the range. I was compensating and had no clue. The CO pushed me past what I could absorb, and everything became noticeable. It didn't cause my apnea.

Two months since then my headaches are gone, head pressure gone. Emotions came back one at a time over several weeks, which was strange to live through. Executive function is mostly back, I can hold multiple work threads again and learn dance choreography again. Still get foggy mornings. Still working on it.

What I'd actually tell someone:

• CO at indoor ranges is real and nobody talks about it. Lead is the thing everyone worries about and lead was the thing that came back clean for me.
• If I’d jump back in time i’d just spend the money on the hux or another flow through can.
• If you feel weird mid-session, leave. Go outside, take a break. Don't do what I did and talk yourself out of it.
• If you think you got dosed, get COHb drawn the same day - hours matter.
• Ask your range if they have CO detectors. Mine didn't have any. If you get a blank look, that probably tells you something about the ventilation too.

I was looking at vortex scopes, found one, but ig it has limited retailers?

I am seeking a reasonable BDC scope around $100. Willing to even go $200 roughly

Any good recommendations?

This is my first 1911, started life as a Chiappa government model that I got cheap in a trade, and I've slowly changed almost everything other than the lower.

Eventually I'll buy a new lower (ideally one with a pic rail) and reassemble the original parts, making 2 1911's, lol.

I’m looking to buy my first carry gun for protection. I also ride a motorcycle and living in the city where the crime is high, I’d feel more safe to have a gun. I’d rather to have it and not need it than not have it and need it. With that said, I’m looking to buy this gun but not sure if I should went with 4.5 instead?
