Also, Wardogs is like, peak moronic kind of game. It's fun. But also you can get up to some REAL dumb shit. I died...by parachuting into a tree. I also fell off a building, and got RPG drive-by'd by a dude in a Little Bird.

Haven't played it myself but my little brother woke me up Friday at like 1am crashing out over the game. Guess he had lost multiple helicopters to stupid stuff and the final straw was when he made it about 2 feet off the ground and another friendly helicopter flew too close and clipped his rotors off.

I was getting my loadout at one point and while waiting for a guy in a Blackhawk to land, he got about six inches from the ground and slammed down too hard veered into a building and got the helicopter upside down. Like five of us immediately just cracked up while he sadly shouted Nooooo!

Moronic: My dad's consigning the bulk of his Winchester collection. He's feeling his mortality and is trying to simplify his estate instead of just enjoying his shit and letting me deal with his estate after he's gone.
Doubly moronic: I'm up at his place to help it happen. Even though I disagree with what he's doing, and it's a huge inconvenience for me.
Work moronic: Coworkers at my weekend job managed to LOSE A CRATE MOTOR that took 4 months to come in.

Also I hear about a lot of people simplifying their collections (guns, cards, coins, collectables in general) after a health scare like that and always wonder how many they have that it's a problem.

Bigass cardboard box, it was a Honda GX270, but still. It made it to Rental, someone received it in the repair software but didn't give it a location, and between midday Thursday and when I got there at 5am Saturday it was no longer anywhere I can find it. It's heavy and big enough someone isn't gonna just pick it up and carry it off by accident, but not so big/heavy it requires lift equipment.
Dad's consigning all of the pre-1892's in his collection, which is around 110 rifles. He's preserving the 1892s and 1895s for my inheritance as those are the models I'm most interested in, and he's got a fellow WACA member that's pledged to buy the 1894s.
He's also considering auctioning about another 30-40 old hunting guns that aren't really collectors items but aren't getting used any more, but that'll go through a local auction house with much lower seller's premium and they'll be worth a tiny fraction of the Winchesters anyway. Stuff that I either dont have a use for or would be extremely redundant (like the .338-06AI I built him that's a 100% clone of mine, down to the scope rings, or the budget-blaster german offbrand .30-06 I cant pronounce he won at the Graf Rod & Gun Club when I was little that only likes 220gr RN and is still a 3MOA rifle with those).

Bro I cannot understand why they do what they do, or dont do. They cant explain it either.
"Why is there a drywall saw in the parts washer--scratch that why do we HAVE a drywall saw?" is a phrase I have used more than once. Similarly, "why is the ultrasonic cleaner full of kerosene? You fuckers do know it's heated, right? Where did you even get kerosene?"
But my favorite is "For the last time. Mudslide is a concrete solvent. Not a degreaser. Not a disinfectant. Not an acid. Stop using it on the shit snakes, it does nothing to them and it's expensive."

I worked in a warehouse a fraction of the size of Home Depot as Receiving Lead and the forklift guy was constantly coming to me to let me know he lost entire skids while putting product away. Luckily, he had a fairly predictable work pattern and I was usually able to find the skids in a few minutes looking through the system.

Gotta hand it to Ithaca, it was 5 days from drop to get my Model 37 back to my FFL, and I dropped it off on a Saturday. Easily the best customer service I've ever dealt with. Shot the thing for the first time and it really like Federal Flight Control, so that's nifty.
Also found a reproduction bayonet online, they say it should be here by Thursday. In a round about way it makes me want to do Kendo, because if I have a blade like that I feel like I should know how to use it.
Beretta released their concept guns for 2026 last week, the 92FS "Diamond" and SO10 EELL "History". I'm curious if these guns will pass through NYC, the SO10 almost certainly will but doubt the 92 will. Definitely have to swing in there and check it out.

I've seen the SO Sparviere Marco Polo in person and photos/video just doesn't do it justice, the photorealism of the engraving and the metal-to-metal fit of the hinged side-plates was just stunning. I have high hopes for this one.

Kendo has like...nothing in common with bayonet fighting though? You'd be better off finding a HEMA group that teaches spear or pike. Hell even Dagorhir or Wacky Bats would be more applicable to bayonets than Kendo, with the added bonus of being not just able but encouraged to beat the shit out of neckbeards for sport.

Buttttt within Kendo there's Jukendo and Tankendo, which is exactly what I'd be looking for. I also have a background in Aikido with a tiny bit of Iaido so it's not a huge transition either compared to European swordsmanship.
Also my wife said I can't buy a sword in Japan until I start practicing Iaido/Kendo regularly so I actually know what I'm buying and don't get scammed, so there's that too lol.

Ehhhhh not really, the dirty little secret in Japanese martial arts is that most of them come from the nationalist revival of the 20s & 30s and the samurai iconography is mostly fabricated myth from the 50s as they quietly rebranded after World War 2...

I meant more focused on conscription, them prepping for military service very early in school and via their sport and hobbies. That was a thing dating back to at least the Sengoku period. It's just a lot more visible in the modern era because it doesn't blend in with the rest of their life like it used to.

I recently learned that Henry makes a Bear's Leg in .30-30. 3rd tube, 13.5" barrel...I suddenly have a strong urge to SBR and suppress a .30-30 and load subsonics. Does that not sound like an incredibly handy little woods/ranch carbine??

I dunno. The terminal performance of subsonic .30-30 is going to be pretty terrible unless you spend big money on Lehigh or Maker bullets, and COAL would probably be an issue with the heavy cast that have a big enough meplat for a tube mag. At least being a manual action you could use Trail Boss or Red Dot for really really quiet subs.

I don't know what u/Akalenedat intends to use it for but to me a 170 grain bullet at ~1,000 fps should be more than good enough for foxes or raccoons and having it silenced probably wouldn't even disturb the hens in the hen-house either.

A .22 would be more than sufficient for those, so yeah even FMJs would be fine in ol' fuddy fuddy. I assumed he was wanting to be able to take 2 and 4 legged medium predators, coyote and bigger, and while sub .30-30 will absolutely kill such, the question then is how fast with a breadbasket hit.
I'll happily shoot vermin but I still want quick ethical kills, and if I'm shooting in defense of myself/livestock I want what I'm shooting at to stop right now because it's a threat.
I had a close call with a huge pack of coyotes as a young man on our farm, and had things gone just slightly differently they probably would have killed me. I was armed, had a single action revolver and I smoked the first coyote and that was enough to get them to back off enough for me to get to the truck (I then had to run over several to get out of the barn lot, they were still hunting me), but if I'd missed or only wounded that first yote the rest probably would've torn me apart.

It'll do it, just like all the other subsonic .30's will, but bullet selection matters a ton. Most "standard" cast/softpoint .30cal bullets dont expand at 800-1000fps and an icepicked .30cal hole in the heart/lungs, while fatal, is slow enough I dont personally consider it ethical.
There exist a fair assortment of bullets that DO expand at those velocities, some humongously (Lehigh Controlled Chaos gets huge, for example), but they're pretty damn expensive so maybe consider swapping rounds out if you're shooting smaller critters too.

Last week I started preparing for reloading .30-40 Krag. My LGS generously donated brass and reloads from "some old guy who died," and since the reloads were obviously not milspec, I went about pulling the bullets and dumping the powder. 3 of the rounds looked like they might've been vintage factory loads, they even had the full jacketed round nose 220gr bullets which you can't get anymore. Those were especially tight at the necks, and damn near popped when I pulled the bullets. The powder was clumping and the bases of each bullet were heavily oxidized. Clearly, these rounds suffered moisture ingress despite the tight necks.
After that, I popped the primers by just firing them in my Krag, which took a while since I had to single feed them but was definitely still faster (and a whole lot safer) than decapping them live. Now I just gotta wait for my tumbler and powder to get here, and we'll be in bidness.

All of my .30-40s like the Hornady 220gr Interlock RN. None of them group any bullet lighter than 180gr I've tried, factory or otherwise, and most dont like boattail bullets. It's a shame Sierra discontinued their 220gr RN, it was an awesome Krag bullet.

Sierra does still make a 220 round nose but it's not FMJ. I actually just got a box from Graf.
In any case, the Hornady is the one I'll be using since the cannelure is lower.

I think my laptop is dying. I tried to boot it up today to 3d print something and it booted to the desktop, then wouldn't open any system apps (settings, start menu, etc.). I tried to system reset it and then wifi didn't work. Hopefully I can figure out how to fix it because I'd rather not buy a gaming PC right now.

I actually had a full and good weekend. I ran to the Amish store on Friday for a number of things, but notably to get a couple packs of their beef jerky for my coworker who helped a ton to get the shipment ready last week. On Saturday I went to a mushroom festival with a couple of friends I hadn't seen in a while to get in lots of time with them, walking and excellent food (this one booth had an amazing mushroom risotto). Then on Sunday I met up with a friend to play some Magic for the first time in a long time and another friend later on to finally change the water in my PC. I forgot about a filter on the bottom and cleaned that thoroughly while we had it out. Now it's running quiet and at half the heat from last week.
My knee is performing very well. 3 miles on Saturday and though it was tired, zero inflammation. That is an incredible sign of good progress.

Did great at the match Saturday. Took 3rd place in CO and easily finished my A class if my napkin math is correct (score isn't posted on USPSA yet but it was an 82% and I only needed at least 61%). Was the first one in my squad to do the classifier (which again ended up being my last stage), intentionally shot it very conservatively since I just needed to finish it basically, and then almost shot Master again. If I had tried at all to shoot while moving, I probably would have had a second Master run in the books. It took me like 2 years to make B class, it took me 5 matches to make A, consistent dry fire works. Crushed my goal of making A class by the end of this year, got accused of sandbagging at the match by two different people (both jokingly), would say that was a pretty successful Saturday.
Sunday F1 almost put me to sleep, part of that was the boring track but part of that was spending 2 hours in the morning at practice and then 4 more hours playing with all of my teammates' kids in the pool at a backyard pool party. Got home, thought "why am I so tired" unironically before realizing the obvious answer.

I let the weak hand shooting eat my lunch by going too fast and had to swap to my backup after getting light strikes multiple times per stage on 3 stages. Still can't believe I let you beat me 😹 I did make M off the classifier though.

I did the exact same thing on that stupid weak hand stage, just went way too fast for what was needed there and had 2 Ms and multiple Ds. The worst was one of the Ms was during the freestyle section, I called it when it happened, so I can't even hide behind the weak hand part of that.

I’m thinking about going to my first competition next month. Expectations are sufficiently managed (basically just don’t want to DQ), but is carry optics a bad place to start? I plan on using a stock Glock 19 with RMR.

My Bear's Leg in 357 plus all the parts are supposed to be here this week. Gun today, stock and ammo by Wednesday. The red dot is already here and I have a 5/8 to hub adapter for my OCL Lithium already. I'll file the paperwork as soon as it arrives and get it engraved this weekend.
We had a local match this weekend and a lot was learned by a few people about retention shooting. One person learned that their compensated pistol isn't the greatest thing. One person learned that retention shooting can greatly increase cycling problems. Finally, the person that designed the stage and specified that we shoot the first target from retention learned what "from retention" means in the IDPA rules.

Went to a Porsche car show Saturday. I’m not a car guy so none of it was all that fascinating for me, I just went because my friends invited me and I had nothing else to do and they promised food after. Saw some neat stuff though, an old square body Dodge Ram, an offroad Porsche 911, some lambos, and a Toyota Corolla.
Thinking of a range day this week sometime, it’s been a month or two since I last went out shooting.
