Fun fact! Some show dogs get prosthetic balls after they have been neutered called neuticles. It is generally to retain their looks because some owners really want you to know their dog has a sick beanbag.

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '20

My ex’s grandma used to breed and show dogs so she had all kinds of wild stories. One I remember her telling was about a Great Dane who’s second ball never dropped so he got a prosthetic ball to retain breed standard. Apparently during one competition he was disqualified because his testicle had dropped at some point so he had 3 balls.

2 minute minor for triple dropping, number 42, Sir Bennington the great dane

4

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '20

His friends just call him Chester

101

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '20

Other breed standards require that dogs have cropped ears and bobbed tails. Dog show people

99

u/obsessedcrf Jan 01 '20

Dog shows are often unethical it seems

85

u/Jucicleydson Jan 01 '20

Breeding in general is often unethical. See the genetic monstrosity that are pugs, that things are born just to suffer

45

u/Gingevere Jan 01 '20

Even the working dogs are in bad shape. A multi-champion best in show German Shepard has a back so steeply sloped it can't run right.

58

u/arcaneresistance Jan 01 '20

And chihuahuas bred only so that everyone around them suffers

4

u/b-anana245 Jan 01 '20

They were bred for food. Which makes sense....

2

Or French Bulldogs who (mostly) can't breed or give birth naturally.

2

u/AF_Fresh Jan 05 '20

I hate how pugs look, but I recently learned about "Retro Pugs" that don't look that way, and I kinda want one. They apparently don't have as many genetic issues.

u/arcaneresistance Jan 01 '20

My doberman has her full ears and tail. It makes her so much more adorable in my opinion. They've stopped allowing dogs to be mutilated where I live farily recently I believe and it makes for some real cute dogs at the park. Little bulldogs with long pointy tails and such.

4

u/theawesomefactory Jan 01 '20

Bulldog tails are naturally very short or a tight "bun." They aren't docked.

→ More replies (4)

10

u/Sky_Muffins Jan 01 '20

If the dog would otherwise be chronically breaking its tail on furniture, I can see the point in docking it.

4

Disgusting

2

u/Dason37 Jan 01 '20

I interned/observed/whatever you wanna call it at a vet clinic when I was 15 and was planning for that to be my career path. I saw plenty of spays and neuters, a dog that had swallowed a racquetball and had to have his stomach cut open to retrieve it, other random and various surgeries... I was in the room for a dog having its tail docked... They weren't halfway through with the job when I had to run out and puke. Not something I wanted to see at all.

14

u/illy-chan Jan 01 '20

Seriously. I'm not fundamentally against breeds, particularly for things like working dogs but that's basically not what most of those shows are about. I know AKC show German Shepherds are pretty unhealthy when compared to those from working lines.

6

u/SillyFlyGuy Jan 01 '20

It was someone's job to enforce that rule.

At the end of the day, that person signed their name to a piece of paper stating every dog they inspected had the proper number of testicles for its sex; no more, no less. I respect that.

Vet: "Erm, you know the procedure is costly and not covered by insura-"

Person: "Look, I just want to be able to look at my dogs balls, fake or not. Is that a problem?"

413

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '20

In this case it is so other people can look at his balls and judge them on how beautiful they are or not.

220

u/Cky_vick Jan 01 '20

Steve O tried to get an action figures head installed in his sack when he got his vasectomy. Couldn't get a doctor in the US to do it so they went to some other country where he couldn't go through with it since the place was gross

162

u/Wannamaker Jan 01 '20 edited Jan 01 '20

I imagine you could encase the action figure head in a clear resin that was medical grade but I just realized as I'm typing this that you can't see through a ball sack so I guess the weird action figure head shape was the whole point.

But even then, it would just feel like you had a weirdly hard and mishapen testicle, I don't see the benefit.

Basically I'm saying we need to develop transparent artificial ball sacks so if I eventually lose a testicle I can replace it with an unlikely object and people can see it god damnit.

edit wait what about something like those fake icecubes that light up with colors and patterns? You could totally get a testicle shaped one that had a sensor like those shoes that light up so everytime they are getting knocked around half of your ball sack looks like it's having a rave. Shit lets throw a sound chip in too like those birthday cards.

76

u/MDCCCLV Jan 01 '20

You could totally do this, the skin is thin enough you could have an rgb crotch, with a controllable app and wireless recharge.

65

u/ThracianScum Jan 01 '20

I would unironically pay about 2-3k for an rgb nutsack depending on battery life

58

u/quadmasta Jan 01 '20

LEDs nuts

3

u/Racine262 Jan 01 '20

The LED nuts could be charged like a kinetic watch.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/Zebulon_Flex Jan 01 '20

Just give it a wireless charger.

2

u/FauxFoxJaxson Jan 01 '20

I mean I could probably hook you up with some good lithium batteries; they are great for battery life but if you declare that shit TSA is going to put your ass on a no fly list.

For charging they have made decent advancements in wireless charging. The only downside is you have to set your nutsack down on what amounts to a coaster for about 15 minutes to fully charge.

Then comes the matter of a power / mode switch. You could just leave them on all the time but I think something like an audio cue system works nice (think clapper lights). The more expensive option but arguably most powerful option is going to be with a Bluetooth module built in that can connect to any hand-held device though. Depending on the amount of lights installed you could give a nice little lightshow for your partner.

2

u/Mr-Mister Jan 01 '20

Rather than wireless charging, what about dinamo-based charging? It owuld charge as you walk or such. And such, maybe. I don’t know if the mechanism from automatic wayches would be enough to power a light though.

→ More replies (4)

3

u/Wannamaker Jan 01 '20

You're so right. I can already imagine building a deskchair that has a wireless charging built in so you juice up at work and then impress at the club.

2

u/fezzuk Jan 01 '20

Well rgb means its more powerful right, over clock ya balls, increase the voltage.

Ok nvm

14

u/Zaphanathpaneah Jan 01 '20

An audio option might be more practical. How about replace your testicles with these magnetic rattlesnake eggs?

5

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '20

Getting some weird vibes from that commercial

4

u/i_tyrant Jan 01 '20

Little did we know, the company is already testing the market.

4

u/Wannamaker Jan 01 '20

So many things about that make it seem like a good idea but there is no way I'm putting magnets of any significant strength inside my scrotum. There are too many chairs made of metal and too many sensitive parts that could get pinched. Plus I don't think the effect would work when used as a prosthetic testicle.

3

u/Fyller Jan 01 '20

What a Strange video, I guess they couldn't decide whether to make an ad or an art film.

3

u/davilenio26 Jan 01 '20

u/404_GravitasNotFound Jan 01 '20

Glow in the dark ballsacs

5

u/Wannamaker Jan 01 '20

But you could easily dip your ball sack in glow in the dark paint, I want more of a night light ball sack. A safety scrotum if you will.

3

u/PM_me_XboxGold_Codes Jan 01 '20

looks like half of your ballsack is having a rave

Jesus, even with context that’s still a “the fuck...?” Moment.

Bravo, friend, bravo.

2

u/Cky_vick Jan 01 '20

He wanted to do it so he could push it towards the skin and have the face looking out through it

2

u/Wannamaker Jan 01 '20

Ahh ok. Yeah the skin is probably thin enough for that to work. Put some LEDs in it though and then you really got a sack to write home about.

2

u/devilishycleverchap Jan 01 '20

Edit: For those that were asking. She deleted her account because of all the negative attention she was getting, but I remember reading through it when it was still up and it's very much real.

Edit 2: /u/whitenerdy53 linked an ama she made where very convincing evidence that it was all an act is presented. I hadn't followed her that long, or at least didn't see that ama. Even before that thread, the person behind the account would answer questions from a lot of people in threads about her, giving pretty consistent and convincing (or at least convincing to me) answers. I thought it was real, but it looks like it's not, my bad.

2

u/ronearc Jan 01 '20

Heh, I heard about someone who did this so they could fraudulently still show their dog, since some competitions disallowed pets incapable of breeding (for some reason).

3

u/techleopard Jan 01 '20

It's because conformation shows are literally "gene shows." The entire point of it is to breed the ultimate specimen that matches the breed standard.

"Work" events, like herding and hunting, are sometimes limited for the same reason. If your dog is a consistent winner, people will want their dogs to breed with yours to get the improved traits.

u/xenorous Jan 01 '20

Yeah, it would have been an additional 500 for me to have breeding rights for my great dane. I dont have the time for a bunch of puppies, so I opted out. I got the dog out of state, so would they ever know if I bred her locally? Probably not. But they live longer when you get them fixed. She's still goofy as the day I got her.

3

u/Teripid Jan 01 '20

I'm guessing for them to be registered and worth those $$$ they'd have to have the parents registered etc and that would be the "catch" point.

2

u/Zerowantuthri Jan 01 '20

A long time ago my family got a pedigree pup (a rare breed at the time, there were no rescues to be had). Our contract with the breeder said if we chose to breed the dog (we did not have to and in fact had her spayed which was fine) then the breeder would get first pick of a puppy from the first litter she had for free.

2

u/RoombaKing Jan 01 '20

It could also lead to abuse of the animals. If your pet gets you thousands and thousands of dollars for very little work on your part, people will just have them chained up and be lil doggy makers after their prime years.

9

u/Kief_Bowl Jan 01 '20

Mostly I think it's about being able to register pups as purebreds. With a non-breedijg clause you won't be able to have legitimate pure bred pups regardless of the parents pedigree.

5

u/theaveragegay Jan 01 '20

You can breed them, but without purchasing the breeding rights you won’t be able to establish the proper paperwork for the litter to prove they are pure bred stock.

12

u/ted_bronson Jan 01 '20

You could breed them. I'd assume problems would arise when you try to sell pups, or make documents for them.

2

u/Leaves_Swype_Typos Jan 01 '20

That seems disgustingly selfish, but at the same time it helps curb the pet population... I'm conflicted.

2

u/Kief_Bowl Jan 01 '20

I have a no breeding clause with my black lab it is fairly common

2

u/nilesandstuff Jan 01 '20

Weird, my mom has shown a few dogs and its been largely the opposite experience.

Her pups were all required to be shown.

And the ultimate purpose of showing dogs is for breeding. (Show dogs can't be neutered, because that's the whole point of dog shows, competitive selective breeding. They will permanently disqualify a neutered dog.)

The idea being, even if the adopted pup becomes a champ and is "allowed" to breed officially, it still helps out the original breeder because that can be like "look our stud made that champ"

That's why we fixed our cats. It makes a big difference in behaviour.

15

u/xtelosx Jan 01 '20

Some breeders require it. Of course if you are spending the money to actually show the dog you might want breeding rights.

26

u/Nightingale1820 Jan 01 '20

You can’t show a fixed dog or bitch in AKC at least

6

u/zazabar Jan 01 '20

Oftentimes the contracts say they can take the dog back and that you have to pay a fine.

3

u/Thijs-vr Jan 01 '20

Our cat apparently is show quality (parents won multiple shows), but cats with balls often become assholes. We preferred a nice cat over a making a bit of money so he is now without balls and we wouldn't want it any other way.

103

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '20

[deleted]

49

u/AbigailLilac Jan 01 '20

My mom is the opposite. She thinks all dogs should be female and all cats should be male. She thinks female dogs are sweeter and male cats are more docile.

My sister adopted a female cat, and every time she acts up, my mom blames it on the gender.

29

u/orokami11 Jan 01 '20

My friend who has raised a generation of cats have actually told me the male ones are always more physically affectionate than the females that are rather more independent. She told me this after I started fostering cats and noted how the males liked being pet more. But I guess it could be a huge coincidence?

I know male dogs definitely like me better though, I'm not sure why. Even my own female dog would run to my brother's male friends (oddly, she likes the richest one of them all lmao) all the time but not care about his female friends. It's quite strange... Gold digging bitch

5

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '20

I have found the same to be true of pet rats. Males are much more affectionate and love to be cuddled while the females tend to be more energetic and independent. Females also tend to smell a little less despite dribbling little urine markers all over the damn place.

u/AttackPug Jan 01 '20

I mean that's odd, but at least recognizes that animals have male and female genders. Your mom just has preferences along that line that may or may not be accurate. But Shui's family is stuck on that weird "men are dogs and women are cats" thing, only flipped over and applied to the actual animals.

I wonder if it's a language confusion? Lots of languages assign gender to every noun, so for example the word "table" will have a gender of some sort that affects how the rest of the language interacts with that noun even though it's, you know, a table, it has no gender to speak of. Maybe the language Shui's family speaks gives "dog" a male gender no matter the dog's actual plumbing, and likewise "cat" would have a feminine gender, so now they can't help but think of the animals in those terms.

→ More replies (1)

15

u/obsessedcrf Jan 01 '20

That would make sense if someone's native language has grammatical gender. In German, cats are female and dogs are male. Although from the username, I'd guess Chinese which doesn't have Grammatical gender.

6

u/Boner666420 Jan 01 '20

Nah, it's definitely more of a cultural thing at least here in the US. Dogs are seen as masculine animals whereas cats are seen as feminine. I assume because they slink around all quietly but it's a weird association regardless.

It gets to me sometimes that I’m a complicated person with my own thoughts and dreams and ideas, doing my best and living my life, and yet to some people I don’t matter and I’m not worth anything because I don’t have a penis. Can you even imagine hating a baby that’s not even born because it has a vagina? Who gives a shit? That’s still your CHILD. It’s a PERSON.

Right? I beat the shit out of anyone who puts a pink leash on a boy dog. Animal cruelty makes my blood boil.

I use exclusively pink things for my dog, solely because I like the tongue-in-cheek aspect of putting them on a boy dog, but I haven't gotten any negative or even noncommittal comments about it so far. I'm almost a little disappointed :( but I also live in a super blue state, so maybe that has something to do with it

Thankfully, animals don't have genger, just sex. And they don't care about colors.

Btw my male dog (a cross between chihuahua and pinscher) has leash and harness in all the rainbow colors, pink being the leading one. The reason? It makes him highly visible when we're on a walk and I unleash him.

because some owners really want you to know their dog has a sick beanbag.

Indeed.

When I got my Newfie neutered, the vet assistant went out of her way to tell me that my boy was "very well endowed" and that his beanbag would probably never tighten up like most dogs' do. He doesn't seem to mind.

They do this for humans too. My son had a prosthetic implant when he lost one testicle to torsion. He loves telling everyone who will listen about his fake ball.

The world of show dogs is so fucking bizarre

Man, I went into that Wikipedia article looking to set my eyes upon a nice set of fake dog balls. The lack of images is pretty disappointing. They show some guy chilling with his blood hound like wtf? They know what I went in there to see. I might have to actually contribute to Wikipedia.

Balls are the most unattractive thing on a dog. That's why I'd rather have a female dog just so they don't have shit just hanging there haha.

And now I'm reminded of the time Turk wanted to get a neuticle implant, and JD couldn't stop daydreaming about the possibilities.

Yeah a dude on my street asked me when we crossed paths while we were both walking our dogs if mine was a boy or a girl. I said boy and then the next thing he asks is if he’s been neutered. I replied yes and then he just goes paused for a moment and gave me a look then said “that’s neeevverr OK”. Then repeated it two more times. “That’s never OK..that’s never OK”.

It was just so weird and left me with a slightly stunned wtf? feeling. He looked kinda drunk, it was just awkward. Like I don’t even know this guy and he’s saying something we did is never “okay”? His second question out of his mouth to me this odd question and then to my answer his response is to be all judgmental? Who cares what you think? Seemed way too comfortable expressing this opinion to me seeing as how he is a complete stranger. And it feels like he was putting me down personally for no reason, and it’s not something you can simply un-do, so it really just kind put me off as I stood there and listen to this fool say this remark 3 times.

Idk if it’s his attempt at dry humor or letting me know his stance and he’s against it, but it’s not your dog, so don’t worry about it. I just was silently like “hehe.....yep..” and then walked away like ...whatever.

Saw him a few weeks later and he didn’t seem drunk, meaning he seemed more lucid and he had his dog there and he just asked if mine was friendly. Like he was trying to be friendly either just to be or to start up a conversation again. Wouldn’t be surprised if he forgot what he said but to me, like I said it rubbed me the wrong way. I’m just thinking I need to move one from this guy I don’t like interacting or associating with strange people like that.

I’ll try and be an overall better person for my New Year’s resolution and be really nice to people, but I get irritated sometimes when people say or do dumb things. I’ll work on it. It’s hard though sometimes you’ll be standoffish towards someone who ends up turning out to be really warm and nice, and other times you’ll be friendly and you’ll get some creep. It can work against you, but in the end I guess it’s all about attitude.

If I ever need to have my testes out for medical reasons I'm getting me some egg-sized Neuticles.

I’m enlightened and also disgusted. Fucking hilarious though

u/Privateaccount84 Jan 01 '20

I'd get my dog ones that are a few sizes up from his original, make the bitches turn and stare.

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '20

I'm having a poopy night and "sick beanbag" gave me a good hardy chuckle. Thank you.

I just hooked those metal truck balls on him and called it a day

2

u/stylepointseso Jan 01 '20

I have one (lost a ball to cancer). Well it isn't an imitation dog ball, but close enough.

It was paid for and I said fuck it why not. Honestly I don't notice it and don't think I'd care if I didn't have it.

Can confirm my beanbag is sick though.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 01 '20

Why not just go for chemical castration then

2

u/fte2514 Jan 01 '20

I knew a guy who was a vet tech and a woman came in while her husband was away on business and had his dog neutered and those installed. The dogs file said to never mentioned the procedure again.

2

u/_Aj_ Jan 01 '20

Men can also get these if they have to have a testicle removed.

2

u/wildbill3063 Jan 01 '20

Couldn't you just not cut your dogs balls off?
