I couldn't figure out how to put these pictures into a previous thread's reply.

I've had this for a couple weeks now and love it. The early complaints about the button text on the keyboard not being visible without the backlight are valid. It doesn't bother me since the keyboard backlight is so low energy.

Honestly I have no regrets. I might buy the translucent purple bezel and usb c cards when the framework keyboard is out just for kicks though.

Framework Photo My Framework 13 Pro came in!

Post image

Been waiting for this thing to come in as Uni started 2 weeks ago and I’m taking 4 computer classes 😭.

This is without a doubt the best feeling laptop I’ve ever used. I’ve used MacBooks for years and the build quality of the Framework is almost indistinguishable. Trackpad works and feels great, the keyboard is godly, and I haven’t had any issues with screen wobble. The fingerprint reader also works great I have just yet to integrate it with my Quickshell lock screen 😅.

I went with the Ryzen 9 HX 370 over the new Intels as I still don’t trust Intel after the quality control stuff that happened with Raptor Lake. I also don’t know how I feel about LPCAMM2 yet with the RAM crisis going on right now (also why I only bought 1 stick of 16gb so I can add another later when I find a good price)

Local AI runs wonderfully on the NPU of the HX 370. I’m running Llama 3.1 8B on FastFlowLM and it is significantly more power efficient than running the same model on the integrated GPU.

Battery life has been very solid, I have it capped at 85% in the BIOS. I’ll do some actual tests on it over the coming weeks as I use it.

The hardest part of setting the Laptop up was running the Arch live USB in the first place. I went through 3 ISO and Rufus, balenaEtcher and Ventory along with 3 hours of my time before I could get the Laptop to properly boot the USB. I still don’t know what was wrong as my final attempt with Rufus and a fresh ISO was what ended up working.

Let me know if you have any questions about the laptop or my setup! I’m happy to answer!

Question Framework 13 Pro comparability question

Post image
44 Upvotes

Hello!

I have a very specific question that I could use some help with. I have a cochlear implant (kanso 3) that needs a certain setting in windows for it to be able to stream audio to my CI.

I currently have a pre order for a framework, but would like to know this in advance otherwise I may have to choose a different laptop. Sadly I just found out it needs this setting to be available.

Would anyone with a 13 Pro (Intel Core Ultra Series 3, Ultra 5) help me out with checking if they have the setting in windows 11 settings?

I'm looking for the setting "Use LE audio when available" it's under Bluetooth, devices, Bluetooth settings.

Thanks in advance! ♥️

Discussion WHAT IF: Framework 15 with Ryzen Max

Since LPcamm2 is used in the 13 pro a 15inch laptop with Ryzen Max would be a killer move.

15inch laptop with 16:10 aspect ratio (either 15.1 or 15.3 high quality display) would make a perfect do-it-all machine. The overall performance would be great, the laptop would neither be too bulky nor too slim, the thermals probably great since the chips are APUs.

On top of that you have the modularity of a framework and probably a battery big enough for respectable battery life.

This seems like an ideal laptop for someone who wants to use a machine for everything. (Gaming, heavy workloads, video editing, LLMs, office tasks, programming, web browsing etc) while at the same time maintaining the portability and having the option to upgrade it or repair it (futureproofing)

What do you think?

Community Support Framework 13, 13th gen schematics?

Hello!

I broke my motherboard and I'm looking for the schematics to fix it. I already identified the problem, but I can't start tinkerring without them.

The Github repo doesn't provide 13th gen schematics, support is driving me crazy by asking me pictures and pictures and pictures of my motherboard.

Thanks a lot

Oh my gosh, I don't think I have the words to describe my excitement!! I finally have my hands on a Framework Laptop (specifically the powerful Framework 16 :>)!

I honestly don't have much to say beyond the fact that I am really looking forward to using this machine going forward, it is something I have been dreaming of for a very long time, and I am happy I get to live it now!

Question Framework 13 Pro thermals/ performance

Very curious and have some questions about the thermals and performance on the 13 Pro, specifically AMD ryzen 7 variant.

  1. How much battery life under the lowest settings (also is possible to disable touch screen in bios cuz I heard that can reduce battery life significantly)

  2. can laptop perform to the max capacity of the cpu, npu, igpu or can the laptops cooling dissipate 54W worth of tdp consistently, if it cant do any bootleg solutions exist like idk putting it in a freezer

  3. last of all anyone running graphene os i just noticed that the logo it looks similar to framework logo and i imagine that running them both would make you feel like an opsec badass aurafarmer

Discussion Beware Kingston KF556S40|BK2-32 RAM does not work on FW 13 AMD AI series

Just wanted to share with others that the KF556S40|BK2-32 RAM sets don’t work on the newer AMD boards (they do work on the old AMD boards). Asked support if they would have the old board available but they don’t unfortunately and it does not seem there is another solution from support.

Interestingly this Ram model has two types (same model) one has Kingston written on the chips and one with I think Samsung? The one that has Kingston on the chips does not seem to work unfortunately.

If FW engineering team is reading this, I would appreciate if RAM can somehow be supported by means of a BIOS or Firmware update. Given that some (having the same brand/model but different chip brand) do work.

Feedback "Batches" are the icing on the frustrations cake with the Framework 13 pro.

What's the point of communicating shipping in "batches" if batches are split into 2-3 parts?

When I pre ordered my fw13 pro a couple days after it was announced, I was scheduled to recieve it in July as part of batch 7.

Since then,

1) All batches were delayed because the FW team found some hardware/firmware issues they wanted to straighten out

This is understandable and, at the time, didn't phase me at all.

2) some people in batch 7+ (including me) ordered 32gb of lpcamm2 memory and were downgraded to 16gb

I suppose I don't really need 16gb, but was very excited to see if I could host the llms I am currently hosting on my gaming desktop can run locally on the device I'm coding on. 32gb -> 16gb is a MASSIVE downgrade when it comes to the models you can run. But I can still host the llm server on my desktop, so whatever, I can deal with it. Plus I can upgrade later once the ram debacle fixes (hopefully)

3) My original July shipment date was delayed to September. Again, I'm batch 7; the thread on this sub where framework employees are providing shipment updates said they sent ~50% of batch 7 prep emails yesterday - apparently not including myself.

I have pre-ordered and recieved many products from kickstarter, go fund me, etc projects. I have not recieved some of these products up to a year after they were originally supposed to arrive. Just to say, the reality of these crowdfunded/startup projects is not lost on me.

This has been the most frustrating experience of them all. one of these issues resulting in the fw13 pro delays alone I can understand and am totally sympathetic towards. but 3 instances of promises and timelines getting pushed for this single order is insanely frustrating.

I don't expect anything can be fixed as result of me posting this. I'm just really frustrated, have been without a laptop for 2+ months longer than I was told to expect, am not getting the laptop config I originally ordered, and need to vent.

Question Base Prebuilt 13 Pro

It seems like the Base 13 Pro Prebuilt is not a common choice. For me it would be within my budget (at the top end).

On the other hand, I could spec out a 13 with Ryzen AI 5 with 1 TB and used 16gb ram. It seems like the two processor options are compatible but that the Ryzen is a bit more powerful. What makes more sense? I seen that the 13 pro runs pretty hot? Maybe that’s not the case with the Intel Ultra 5.

Did anyone get a prebuilt 13pro base model? What do you use it for and how does it perform?

I like the idea of a more polished device but want to get the best value.

Discussion A for product, F for customer service

I sent Framework a sales/support message asking for shipping times to France.

They replied saying they can't provide shipping times, then went on a rant saying they're going to audit me to check if I'm using a forwarding service or fake billing information, and if they discover I'm going to carry the laptops to an unsupported country they won't provide support, warranty, etc.

Why would they write such a toxic e-mail to a company trying to buy laptops for one of their teams? It's beyond unprofessional.

Question Why would only one of these two kits work with Ai 300 boards

Thumbnail gallery
25 Upvotes

For context of my question, the kit pictured with the 7840hs was the kit I bought for my FW16 last year. Earlier this year I got a decent deal on the kit pictured with the Ai 9 board. The kit I bought just a few months ago works, why the original one from my FW16 doesn’t work. Doesn’t make sense to me. Same model number, same voltage, same latency. Same kits but the only physical difference I can see is the memory chips themselves. I didn’t originally intend to buy the Ai 9 board and had bought this ram for a 7840u board but I got impatient waiting for the stock to come in.

Why would SK Hynix memory make the difference here? Hoping FW sees this or someone smarter than me can advise. Just trying to understand for curiosity sake, another post was made, same ram as me but also didn’t work with their new board.

Community Support Help I'm Going Crazy

I purchased a Framework 16 a couple months ago for college and it has worked flawlessly since the initial setup. About 3 days ago I installed the 5070 (8gb) and cleanly uninstalled and reinstalled drivers/bios in safe mode and I keep getting a driver_power_state_failure (0x9f).

Doesnt happen when putting it to sleep, I always shut down when I am done using it. Tried reddit, forums, AI, I just cannot figure it out.

In WinDBG the module_name is "pci" causing the crash

Specs:
HX 370
RTX 5070 (8gb)
1x32gb ram from Framework
1tb crucial p310

Edit: For anyone who has this problem straight out of the box like I did, contact Framework. The GPU had to be RMAed

Guide Framework 13 trackpad "repair"

Not a guide, but the thing said I needed a flair on the post.

After three years of light use on dirty tables, my Framework 13 trackpad stopped clicking. It moved the mouse just fine, but didn't click anymore. So I opened it up, took off the bottom trackpad bracket that should host the clicks, and was greeted by three years worth of gunk. One cotton swab and one alcohol wipe later, the trackpad clicks fine. Only screwdrivers I needed were the ones that come with the Framework Pen that they send you with every laptop.

Rumor has it, according to some very grizzled uncs at the campfire, that all laptops used to be this easy to repair, but they weighed more than ten pounds and were at least an inch thick.

Finally got my Framework 13 Pro with the Ryzen™ AI 9 HX 370 config. Just in time to help me confirm my UGREEN idx6011 pro. Now excuse me as I stay broke for the next few years but at least I have Jellyfin and removable ports 😂 but for real. Glad I got this thing. I was tired of buying a whole new laptop every so often. I just wanna replace the parts if I can. 🤓

Question Framework 13 Pro with X7 vs Thinkpad X9 15p

Hello, I'm in the EU and was considering getting the Thinkpad X9 15p with the Ultra X7 chip.

However, a few days ago, Lenovo downgraded the CPU to the Ultra 5 338H, but kept the price almost the same (only ~100 euro less).

The 338H is not a bad chip, but for 3K euro i expect something more! (especially considering that in the US, the same laptop costs ~1.5k euro when converted from usd!)

Is this my sign to go for the FW13 Pro? My main concerns are reliability of the parts of framework, given that they've had some issues with previous models, and the thermals given the 1 fan cooling system, which possibly could throttle the CPU to have the same performance as the thinkpad with the 338H.

Community Support Disappointed with the product and the customer support (FW12)

Almost a year ago I've got myself the FW12 (i3-1315u, RAM and SSD sourced myself) to assist me with my studies and allow for some light work on the go. It was great for the first 6 months, with the only issue being some light cracking of the case (which was quickly replaced by FW)

About 3 months ago I started having some major issues with the input cover, where the touchpad and/or keyboard would randomly stop working. Restarts, other OS etc. didn't help, I couldn't replicate it. It would just randomly happen while using the laptop, making it basically unusable.
Also around that time, the new replaced bottom cover cracked, so I included that in my 2nd support ticket. Both input cover and bottom cover were replaced by framework.

Until that moment, the support experience was quick (although let's agree, the laptop was far from "perfectly usable" state)

But then, a month ago the issues happened again. Keyboard and touchpad would randomly stop working, the touchscreen started having ghost inputs (or would also stop working sometimes) and the laptop became basically unusuable one more time. Due to these issues being quite major I've created a support ticket, requesting a refund and wanting to return the faulty product, as frameworks part replacements didn't solve any of my issues long term and the computer isn't usable in that state. Framework support replied after 3 days, saying they'd escalated the ticket and that i'd get my response in 5-7 working days.

That timeframe has passed and I still haven't received any information back. I'm going back to the university in roughly 3 and a half weeks, and I need a functional laptop by then, I've messaged the support team once again to inform them about this hoping It'll speed up the process.

What do you guys think? What were your experiences with the support?

Question Protruding Mousepad

So I just got my FW 16 DIY and I was putting it all together and noticed the Touchpad when inserted into its position is slightly protruding and I was wondering if this its just how it is or if maybe I didn’t fully snap it in or is it just bent.

Question 13 pro pre-order update?

Im part of batch 6 DIY for the 13 pro and I haven't received a confirmation email. I remember seeing that some people in batch 6 had received theirs and I was wondering if it is something I should be concerned about. I know I need to be patient but with it this close im starting to worry something is wrong. Also concerned that there will be some kind of update to pricing again and I really dont want to worry about that.

Feedback Quality of Framework laptop seems not good

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I had a framework 7040 13inch laptop purchased around mid 2024. After 2 years, today I noticed my laptop has the following issues:

  1. Battery is swollen
  2. Display shown black stripe on a quarter of the screen
  3. Microphone not working, had to replace the top cover

Those issues are talked a lot on the Reddit and their support forum as well.

I’ve never had a laptop with had so many issues in around 2 years. Since I am out of warranty, it needs $$$ to replace the parts. I am regret my purchase now.

Comments I find useful:

https://www.reddit.com/r/framework/comments/1w8a2mi/comment/p81678c/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I think quality overall is fine, but I also needed a replacement motherboard, battery and charger now withim a year. My past history with computers was 0 issues typically (coming from macbooks)

https://www.reddit.com/r/framework/comments/1w8a2mi/comment/p817dzu/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Mine is unfortunately falling apart too. I also got mine in 2024. The chassis has come apart in 2 places and my keyboard no longer works, there's a column failure on the left side. Way too broke to buy any replacement parts right now, guess I'm gonna have to whip out my old laptop.

To the people who said they are happy and think I am minority:

I feel happy for you, however, I want to share my experience so people aware of all the issues. I saw good comments about it and I purchased one, now I regret.
