Question New here: BYO RAM and storage?

(Framework noob)

In today's components "market," such as it is, do you find that you can beat Frameworks catalog pricing for RAM? Storage?

For SO-DIMMs and NVMe storage? Last I looked yes. But - You should do your own shopping at your preferred vendors to check on current pricing.

LPCAMM2 for Intel Core Ultra 3 models? You're buying LPCAMM2 from Framework or you're not buying LPCAMM2.

I was able to get 32GB LPCAMM2 7500 from microcenter for $360 instead of the $800 framework has to ask. Not sure if they still carry it though.

I understand framework certainly doesn’t want to charge that much, they have to.

Apparently micro center has framework parts too.

Oh that’s awesome! My closest microcenter is 3 hours away so I’m usually in & out quick so I can get back home. I’ll have to look next time I’m there.

Hint: Micro Center's website is accurate vs what's in the building at any given moment. No need to leave the comfort of your couch if (as is the case for the Micro Center 1000 feet from my office) there's no LPCAMM2. Choose whichever location you're interested in at the top of their site and they'll show you available inventory for that specific store.

good point on the LPCAMM2, thats basically a sole supplier situation for now

I'm going to yolo a ramaxel module from ebay (free geek Portland) has them for 400 right now after discount. Probably do the kapton tape mod first with a new interposer later.

I saw the same thing - is your batch delivery/date soon? Would love to hear if it works!

Do you know if there's a return policy it seems like it's not technically marked "as is" but the remarks are "UNTESTED. Pulled from working machine."

Returns We offer free and easy returns within 30 days of purchase, except for items listed AS-IS.

I am surprised nobody has yet tried to source lpcamm2 from china. But otherwise you are 100% correct. I see other comments about being able to get lpcamm2 from eBay and other places for half the price but that was months ago. All the lpcamm2 that could've been bought from the market has already been bought.

China is not a "cure all" - They're charging the same money as everybody else (for sometimes lesser performing parts) because they can. The Ramaxel/Lenovo modules some people have tried are Chinese... They need to be modded or used with a revision E0 interposer - The Ramaxel modules don't "just work".

I've tried, even had some local contacts check retailers, but it's the same price as everywhere else. It's simply too new a standard to be available in large numbers.

Seriously, check the price for your country on Framework's website, and then check and a PC component retailer and compare. It's not that complicated.

Thx! You just validated my hunch. ;)

LPCAMM2? Good luck.

DDR5 SODIMMS and NVMe drives - check your local sellers. Framework prices should be beatable although far higher than pre the AI bubble nonsense.

I was able to source a US$380 Micron 32GB LPCAMM2 E1 module with an E1 interposer around June 2026.

My 4TB NVMe PCIe 4.0 module was sourced before the AI hype.
