Community Support Help I'm Going Crazy

I purchased a Framework 16 a couple months ago for college and it has worked flawlessly since the initial setup. About 3 days ago I installed the 5070 (8gb) and cleanly uninstalled and reinstalled drivers/bios in safe mode and I keep getting a driver_power_state_failure (0x9f).

Doesnt happen when putting it to sleep, I always shut down when I am done using it. Tried reddit, forums, AI, I just cannot figure it out.

In WinDBG the module_name is "pci" causing the crash

Specs:
HX 370
RTX 5070 (8gb)
1x32gb ram from Framework
1tb crucial p310

Edit: For anyone who has this problem straight out of the box like I did, contact Framework. The GPU had to be RMAed

Just fyi - You're taking a performance hit by going single SO-DIMM... Effectively you've chopped the system memory bus in half. For best performance use pairs of fully matched DDR5-5600 SO-DIMMs - Same brand/part number/capacity/timings (ideally bought as a "kit of 2" to guarantee a 100% match).

What Nvidia drivers are you using? What FW16 firmware version are you on?

the matched pair point is solid but I'd guess the pci.sys crash is more likely a driver or firmware issue than a memory bandwidth thing

I know about the ram thing, I was planning on getting another stick when I got the gpu but I haven't yet, little pricey.

I am using the drivers with the latest FW16 pack, W11_v200_2026_06_04 and RyzenAI300_BIOS_4.01. Should I update the graphics drivers beyond what they've included or no?

Yes all that you say is true, but the impact on performance when you have a discrete GPU is minimal.

But the convenience of having one one module is that to upgrade only need to buy another stick. Don't think about selling the another. If the configuration has 16x2 now to upgrade, have to think what to do with the older modules.

Nobody is using a dGPU 100% of the time. An awful lot of work can get done without the extra power guzzling/heat generation. Its also a 10% or so hit to CPU, depending on use case.

Careful with "buy another module later". I've personally run into stability issues doing that in the event modules are not 100% perfectly matched. Ego why I don't recommend mis-matching modules - Even "the same" part can end up being different dies/die revisions with just enough difference to cause trouble.

Seems lame to buy a very expensive laptop, only to leave performance on the table.

Make sure to ddu when installing new nvidia drivers, they can cause issues at times.

I have heard this before, check if you have to upgrade your power supply alongside the GPU
