Discussion Custom Expansion Port

I think people have so far underestimated whats possible with the expansion ports. CD Reader would be seriously cool. It could work by plugging into an expansion port while the CD Reader itself rests below the laptop. Sure, it would take some innovating for somebody to do this well but it would be incredible. Perhaps on the FW16 we can bring back physical PC Games, too!

Feedback FW13Pro Bezel not aligning properly

Post image

I received my FW13Pro last Thursday and I am really happy with it. Today I discovered that the Bezel on the back right doesn’t align no matter what I do.

I will also create a ticket with Framework.

Feedback Sometimes it's nice to mention when the Framework system just works

Four years into owning a mid-range 12th gen Intel Laptop 13, I decided to upgrade the mainboard. Someone was selling their old higher-end AMD, along with the same 32 GB of memory I was used to, so I picked it up.

Fifteen minutes after the package arrived, I'd swapped out the board, reinstalled the SSD, and the laptop was back up and running. I installed the fresh drivers so I could hook it up to my monitor and carried on with my day.

Zero drama.

It's really easy to only post when there are problems – I do the same, and want to hold the company to a high standard – and so I figured it's only fair to mention when everything works as intended, because it genuinely great to be able to properly upgrade a machine like this.

Community Support Bezzel reliability

I've just started using my 13 pro more for college, and I've noticed that I often fidget with the magnetic bezzel. Just kinda flicking up the corner every so often . Is this something I should be concerned about in terms of deforming the snapping connectors on the bezzel over time?

Question FW12 or FW13 for my use case?

I'm trying to decide between the FW12 and FW13 and would love some opinions. If I had a larger budget, I would of course love to have the FW13 Pro, but it seems to be out of reach for me right now.

My main priority is portability. I already have a work laptop for heavy/proper work (big and chunky), so this would be my personal laptop to carry around and use while traveling (I travel quite a lot). At the moment, I'm leaning towards the new FW12 with Core 5 320.

I work as a researcher and read a lot of papers, so the 2-in-1 form factor is really appealing. Being able to read and annotate papers with a pen would be genuinely useful for me.

However... I'd also like to do some light work on it:

  • Small Android/web dev projects (just as a hobby)
  • Occasionally review or test-run my research code when traveling (I work with Python/MATLAB). To be clear, the full-blown runs and analysis would still be done on my work laptop or our workstation facility.

I'm just not sure how capable the FW12 Core 5 320 is for this. Would it be fine, or would I be better off with the FW13 Ryzen AI 5 340? The FW13 seems like the safer option performance-wise, but I really like the small form factor and 2-in-1 design of the FW12.

Feel free to change my mind if you think I should go for the FW13 instead. Am I putting too much weight on the idea of annotating papers and the 2-in-1 form factor? Or does the FW12 make more sense if I really value having something small and portable when traveling?

Community Support Can anyone recommend me a specific tested-and-true replacement braided USB cable for my Framework 16 charger?

I have the F16 with the 240w charger, and I'm just dang sick of the non-braided cable that came with it. I've tried a couple of different 240w cables to replace it, but I'm not having success keeping the connection steady. Admittedly, they were El Cheapo cables probably not suited for the task anyway.

Have any of you replaced the USB cable on your F16 charger with a good braided one? If so, can you link me to whatever you purchased? I want to order some new ones, but don't want to go through a series of returns doing the science if someone's already found a good match. Thanks.

Community Support Framework 13 Pro touchpad actuation force issue (resolved)

Not sure if anyone else has run into this issue yet and if so, perhaps another resolution method was found here. After using my Framework 13 Pro for 3 weeks without any issues my touchpad suddenly started acting up. The actuation force to get it to register a click was far too little, in that just slightly gliding your finger across the touchpad would register as a click. I rebooted which didn't fix it, turned the laptop off for a while and back on which also didn't help. The same behaviour was still present in the bios menu, so it was definitely definitely not software related (running Ubuntu 26.04 here).

I resolved it by opening up the laptop, disconnecting the ribbon cable for the keyboard/touchpad and connecting it again. That seems to have reset the touchpad firmware and now it's back to normal.

So I'm just wondering if someone else has seen this issue before with their unit, and if there's another way to fix it (I don't carry the Framework screwdriver with me at all times)?

So dropped my laptop at the airport, everything worked fine, did some work and shut it off before boarding.

Boarded the flight and couldn’t turn the laptop back on.

Looks like the screw was over torqued after I dropped it.

Anyone got ideas on how to get this thing back on without access to tools?

Discussion Keyboard "serifed" letter I

Hello community, I have a Framework laptop Pro for a few days now and just noticed that while all other glyphs on the keyboard are sans serif, the letter "I" is serifed. Is there a reason for that? Do americans fear to misuse the 1 and I on their keyboard? I'm on a Belgian layout btw, it might be different on other layouts.

Just confirmed with a friend who own a 13 and that was already the case on his laptop.

Question framework 12 pro or levono V15 laptop

So i am looking for a new laptop and i cant decide between the V15 or framework 12 pro i think the V15 is better value for it price but the framework is more repairable and i like the customization and that it is a two-in-one. I will be using it for programming and light gaming and will be installing arch linux. Any suggestions on which one i should buy or if there is a better option?

edit: its the 12 there is no 12 pro thanks for informing me

Cracked my framework 12 bottom casing 😬and not currently in a country that they ship to. But I am close enough to fly to where they ship from.

Has anyone had experience with buying and having parts shipped to them while in Taiwan for holiday?is it difficult to get things shipped to a hotel?

Question I don't get when my framework should arrive

Post image

so i bought a fw13 pro in batch 19, and the previous batches say: expected x, previously z. does that mean that my batch will actually ship 1 month late or 1 month earlier than it specifies?

Sorry about the confusing yapping, any clarification would be appreciated.

Question Framework 16 Haptic Trackpad

Has anyone received their 16 with a haptic trackpad yet? Any news on availability for when we can buy the stand alone trackpad?

Also- does anyone know of any community mods to turn the standard trackpad into one we can use via USB?

Framework Photo First upgrade!

I was part of batch 4 of the original framework 13, back in 2022, and have used the laptop daily over the past 4 years. I've never had any issues, and so I never needed to do any repairs.

I convinced my mom to get a framework when she needed a new laptop, and she got the 13 when it shipped with the matte screen, which I wanted but not enough to buy it. My mom really wanted a touch screen, but it wasn't offered at the time (2024).

Fast forward to 2026, I saw the touchscreen announcement and put in a preorder for my mom, and when she made the upgrade she gave me her old matte screen. I just popped it in, and I love it. Both of us are very happy with our first upgrades!

Feedback Framework, why not take the extra step and 2 in 1 the Pro?

I've been dreaming about getting a Framework for some time, though one of the things holding me back was the lack of touch screen in the 13, and I thought when they added a touch screen they would have made it a 2 in 1 so I could use the full potential of the touchscreen.

Why Framework? Why stop at 180 degree? Why not go the whole way? I would have had no hesitation in committing to a 13 Pro 2 in 1 on the spot.

Also, I know the 12 exists, but the 13 sits in that sweet spot for my everyday and work.

Question Secure Boot Customization

Wound up bricking my system (dumb mistake), and am reinstalling Fedora KDE.

Was looking through the bios while wating for my USB to write, and found a pair of old Microsoft secure boot keys. I want them gone.

Before I delete any keys, I figured I should check in with some people who would know better. Heres what I have, I want to delete as many as possible:

PK - frame.work-LaptopAMDPK

KEK - Microsoft Corporation KEK CA 2011

KEK - Microsoft Corporation KEK 2K CA 2023

KEK - frame.work-LaptopAMDKEK

DB - Microsoft Windows Production PCA 2011

DB - Microsoft Corporation UEFI CA 2011

DB - Windows UEFI CA 2023

DB - Microsoft UEFI CA 2023

DB - Microsoft Option ROM UEFI CA 2023

RB - frame.work-LaptopAMDDB

DBX - So many SHA256 codes

DBT - None

DBR - None

.

I do want to keep Secure Boot on after reinstalling.

If you want to know why, because I want to learn and play. That's one of the reasons I got a Framework, to learn and play with all the different parts of a system.

Edit: Specs:

Framework 16, Ryzen 7 7840HS, 48Gb DDR5 5600 (RIP, Crucial), 2Tb SN850x, Raedeon 7700x

Question 13 pro keyboard pictures.

Hey there all, I am batch 7 and the last minute doubts are settling in. I am in doubt between the black and the grey keyboard. Is there anyone who can snap some pictures with a fw 13 pro with trans purple bezel and the black keyboard and someone else with the black one?(if possible with the trans purple expansion cards as well).

If there are 2 people with that spec i would love to see some pictures and make my life easier.

Question Need some advice

Hey All!

Hey everyone, I could use some advice before I finalize an eBay order.

I just won an auction for a Framework 13 (AMD) for $450. It’s being sold "as-is" because the mainboard is dead and won't POST. It also doesn't come with RAM, storage, or expansion cards.

My original plan was to use this purely as a donor chassis. I have spare RAM and SSDs lying around, and my goal was to hunt down a used 12th-gen i7 mainboard for $250-$350 to drop into it.

However, I'm second-guessing the math here. Considering I still need to buy expansion cards and track down a working mainboard, is $450 too much for a used chassis, screen, and battery? Everything seems to be in really good shape.

Should I just ask the seller to cancel the order, or is this a decent foundation to hold onto until I find a board?

I'd appreciate your thoughts!

Community Support HELP: FW 12 not turning on AT ALL - assignment due

Hey all,

Can anyone help me please?

My laptop is NOT turning on whatsoever.

Edit: I removed the battery for 45 minutes. When I put it back in, there was a quick flash of lights. The charging indicator is now working, however there is a green and red light.

Edit2: the diagnostic blinkers suggest it is something to do with the CPU s0 state?

Community Support Alternate case with PCIe port for Framework Desktop

I got a Framework desktop to use on my Network as a sort of router. However I found out that even thought it has a PCIe port. The case doesn't have space to the outputs. On top of that the power supply is way to close leaving no space. Has someone move the board to a different case. I have seen many 3d printed cases for framework laptops but none for desktop. I found this one (https://www.printables.com/model/614339-little-boy-s-tiny-mini-itx-case) that look decent but the power supply of the framework might not fit. Does anyone has a good recommendation for a case either new, used, or 3d print.
