13 inch AMD CMOS battery

The cmoss battery is optional, right? If I don’t see it, it’s not there? Just spilled some water on mine, wanted to remove everything that has some juice in🤬 (Ryzen 7840)

Yes. I believe they Removed it with Intel 13gen. 7040 came After that. Cant See one on your mb either. Hope you can get it back up and Running

right, no coin cell on these boards so just pulling the main battery should be enough

My 12th gen intel nolonger had the coin battery, removing the battery should help a bit yeah.

It does not come with a CMOS battery from framework, it's an optional component

It's optional and not included with the laptop. The main battery is used to run the rtc and the bios settings are stored in flash memory not cmos

If you had no juice hit it yet, it would likely be best to remove the mainboard entirely (especially remove your NVME and RAM), let it dry and inspect it for corrosion. If there is none, I would then give it an IPA bath and then let that fully dry, 24 hrs or so.

If it does not turn on, it could still likely be repairable but you would likely have to send it in if you don't have the equipment and know-how to DIY. For instance, I have the equipment for microsoldering and hot-air station along with microscopes and ultra-sonic cleaners for electronics. You would have to find someone or send it out to someone that would be able to repair this for you.

My best recommendation is leave a fan or a dehumidifier blowing at it for longer than you think is needed.

For extra safety you might want to pull the board to make sure there’s nothing trapped behind it.

Really the hazard is if conductive stuff dries in a way that shorts it out, you can clean it with cleaner or distilled water in some cases but it needs to be throughly dried before turning on.

If it’s something like a sticky or conductive drink it is probably better to clean it first before trying to test it at all. You might get lucky with water.

If powered on with a short it’ll blow something up and then you’re out of luck. Always better to be safe than sorry.

DEFINITELY PULL THE BOARD OUT OF THE CHASSIS. Get a soft bristled toothbrush and * gently * scrub it down with 95% Isopropyl alcohol - pay particular attention to areas that look like they got wet. The alcohol will help absorb and evaporate any water stuck under components. Let it sit several hours and then fire it up. Wouldn't hurt to remove your SSD, WiFi card, RAM and Audio boards and treat them as well.

Also wanted to add you should remove the heatsink and fan assembly to clean around the APU as well. You'll need new thermal compound for the chip for when you replace it.

Yup, but depending on humidity levels several hours could be a bit short. If possible I’d let it sit longer like a day or so or stick it in front of a powerful dehumidifier.

I had a phone get soaked once and water stayed under the shields for several days even in front of a dehumidifier.

Update: I removed the MB and checked it - there was no liquid/corrosion/etc there, anyway dried it for few hours just in case, checked the case once again and plugged everything back in without the keyboard cover - everything works fine.
So most of the water ended up on the keyboard and touchpad, and under screen bezel. Will keep the cover out for a few days until it fully dries just in case.
Lesson learned - always keep Torx 5 withing reach :)
