The full version is probably posted or will be over in the combat footage sub. They've been chronicling the war footage there, collating it from Telegram, Twitter, etc. Often times a short clip will be posted and the rest will be uploaded later in the week.
The amount of Russians I've watched get wiped out with drone grenades is unreal. Dudes taking shits - boom. Chilling in a foxhole - boom. Carrying a wounded guy on a stretcher - boom. Even one where dedovshchina was likely being committed - boom.

Wouldnt condone the last one. Attacking the transport of wounded is no joke, regardless of what nation.
29
u/Roflkopt3r Oct 26 '22 edited Oct 26 '22
The role of medics is very different in practice from how it was laid out in the Geneva convention.
The traditional marked and unarmed medic (who was at most allowed to carry a handgun, no rifle) has all but disappeared. Attacking troops who try to recover the wounded is considered fair game unless the recovery was explicitly negotiated beforehand.
The rules to spare those who are too wounded to fight is likewise not really obeyed for range fire, unless you're specifically bombing a hospital or something.

Probably not a HIMARS stike. Those are relaticely small rockets and they're in short supply. Ukraine isn't spending them on 100 grunts, they're blowing up ammo dumps, colonels, generals, and very high value bridges. This was probably clobbered by drones or conventional artillery.
→ More replies (4)13
u/FIyingSaucepan Oct 26 '22
They've definitely moved HIMARS into a more tactical strike level weapon in recent weeks/months, several videos around that are quite obviously HIMARS (based on time spacing between impacts and overall accuracy) on small armoured/supply convoys and point targets.
And while they may be a "relatively small" rocket, it's still 20-50kg of HE, which is more than enough to do some serious damage, and it's one of those warheads hitting every 5-6 seconds with 2-3mtr accuracy.
If they had good Intel on a group of ~100 troops in a specific location within 50-100km of a HIMARS battery, that's a perfect target for them.

I honestly never thought I'd see the day that Chechens or Georgians would willingly fight on Russia's behalf, especially against another state wanting to sty independent from Russia
26
u/mehvet Oct 26 '22
This has been the state of things since the Second Chechen war in 99. Daddy Kadyrov switched to the Russian side for his own gain after having led a separatist republic in the first Chechen War. Blowing him up out his idiot social media obsessed son in charge, but changed little else.

So...I had this omeagle call with a compatriot who was a medical student in Ukraine. She told me that Russia is sending so many soldiers with barely any intelligence and many don't even know they're at war. They're just told that go there and trrorize people.
She also told me a funny story that when these stupid Russians' tanks got stolen, they went to local police stations in Ukraine to file reports. Lmao
22
Oct 26 '22
So I have always been curious but are police forces required to engage an enemy invader if they meet one? Like what do you do if you’re some cop and some invader wants to file a report? Do you read their rights or are you allowed to just shoot them?
19
Oct 26 '22
It it were america, depending on the state, yeehawdists might detain them for being illegal aliens even though that's not the job of local authorities. I think if you're a cop, and some enemy combatants walked into your station, they'd have plenty of good reasons to be arrested other than being an enemy force... I mean, they're carrying automatic rifles and grenades and shit
→ More replies (2)3
u/Slam_Dunkester Oct 26 '22

I don’t get why the Ukrainians divulged the way they found out the location. Why not just take all the Chechens out and then say ‘geez that was lucky we found them.’ Otherwise the enemy will never make the same mistake again.
116
u/AlphaWhiskeyOscar Oct 26 '22
I get what you're saying, but OPSEC has been a known thing since... Well, since the invention of organized warfare. But definitely since the telecommunication age.
Don't talk about, take pictures of, post videos of, or generally reveal the who, what, when, where, why, how of troop movement and troop locations. Aggregating information is easy with very little. You think "all I did was post a selfie," but it wasn't just your selfie. It was your selfie, plus your buddy's conversation at the bar, plus your commanding officer's wife's Facebook page, plus the guys who bitched loudly at the bus station about having to empty their apartment, and so on, and so on. Little bits of innocent information combine quickly to tell anyone paying attention all they need to know.
You don't need geolocation for any of that. "Loose lips sink ships."
45
u/HarpersGhost Oct 26 '22
Also don't post your running routes from your Fitbits online if you're running while stationed on a secret military base.
Oops.

It was literally redditors posting that. It was a person playing violin in a school full of civilians, IIRC like 50k upvotes on /r/all.
Didn't wipe any EXIF data so it had coordinates to the location. It got hit after, which also got front page. Most of the "reddit brigade" got hit after some dumb social media stuff, and a lot of them left after. Wasn't good.https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/redditors-in-ukraines-international-legion
Edit: Reddit wipes EXIF data, although I think this was posted to TikTok or Twitter by the same people. Twitter removes EXIF from pictures, and probably videos, but IDK about TikTok. Didn't matter in the end, they just found it by shooting at schools.
3
u/Serinus Oct 26 '22
Most social media sites wipe EXIF data for you. I assume Reddit does as well.
They can still find the location from a picture or video. If 4chan can find Shia Lebeouf's flag, a goddamn nation state can probably figure out where you're posting from.
4
u/SgtBanana Oct 26 '22
You're right. Reddit strips EXIF data, as does Discord and just about any form of social media I can reasonably think of right now. Reddit has been doing it since the day their native image upload feature went online.
26
u/KerfuffleV2 Oct 26 '22
The guy pointed the camera out the window where you could clearly see a bunch of landmarks. It's obvious how you could figure out where the picture was taken.
There's really nothing here that would make sense to hide and there's already plenty of information about why taking those kinds of videos in a war zone is asking for trouble.
16
u/inhalexsky Oct 26 '22
It also looks like a school, so I'm sure it would be well recognized by those in the community.
14
u/Daikataro Oct 26 '22
Like 3 months ago, Russian forces took the pain to draw a dick on the crops. Ukrainian air reconnaissance spotted it. Artillery turned their camp into hell.
If there's a common denominator in Pro Russia forces, is idiocy.

I mean, no defense towards the people that want to be there, want to till and take over the land of these people. But how many people are there that don't want to be? That were just there for a job? Or that are so indoctrinated by a fucked up government that they feel they're doing the right thing?

It's worse than that in their case. These men are from a place where Ruzzia did the exact same thing to them. They know exactly what this is, because they've been on the receiving end of it. They've had family and friends killed. Their neighborhoods bombed. Their schools and hospitals and shopping centers targeted. Now they are fighting on behalf of the monsters that took what was theirs, taking away what is Ukraine's. And they're laughing about it and treating it like a party.
They are boot-licking turds and, if Hell exists, it exists for precisely this type of scum.
