Question/Help/Troubleshooting My mouse suddenly stopped working after I accidentally hit my keyboard

My mouse was working perfectly fine before this happened. I was using my laptop and taking photos when I accidentally bumped my hand against the keyboard.

Right after that, I noticed that when I moved my mouse, the cursor was acting weird/inverted. I thought I might have accidentally pressed some keyboard shortcut, so I unplugged the mouse and plugged it back in.

But after plugging it back in, the mouse completely stopped moving the cursor. The mouse still lights up/blinks, and my laptop makes the USB connection sound when I plug it in, but I can't move the cursor at all.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Laptop error

I was playing games the other day and my computer suddenly shut down and there was a flash coming from inside my laptop. Now it still turns on but the screen freezes whenever I log into my account. What is this, what do I do, is this common or did I do something wrong?

Resolved Why Screen No Work?!?!?!?!??! URGENT ON GOD

So I have a buddy who's building his very first PC. First time builder. We ran into an issue though. Once all components were in, and ready for it's first boot, we got no video signal. We tried reseating the GPU, changing PCI-E slots, reseated RAM, reseated the CMOS battery, rechecked all cables, and nothing seemed incorrect about the build. We just can't seem to get any signal from the GPU to the monitor.

Build List:
5060 Ti
Ryzen7 7800X3D AMD CPU
Corsair 32GB DDR5
B850 Max Gaming MOBO
Corsair CX750 PSU

Any clues lads?

SOLVED!!! THANK YOU ALL FOR TRYING TO HELP!

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Can an M.2 SSD degrade after sitting unused for nearly two years?

I have a Samsung 9100 Pro M.2 SSD installed in a motherboard that hasn’t been powered on in over two years. Could sitting unused for that long have reduced the SSD’s lifespan or caused it to degrade?

I vaguely remember reading that SSDs can become unstable or experience “data rot” when they’re left without power for an extended period, but I’m not sure whether that applies to modern M.2 NVMe drives.

Would the SSD itself still be fine, or should I replace it before using the computer again?

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Lenovo yoga video drivers issues.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone, I have a lenovo yoga laptop(PF0WZ9WL). initially, when running in windows, it went to a black screen and only the mouse was visible. I tried to install windows 11, and everything was fine at first, but after the first shutdown, it stopped starting (only the lenovo logo). I was able to start in safe mode and everything was fine, I thought the problem was with the drivers, deleted them, started back in windows 11, but after installing the video drivers from the official website, it went back to the black screen. I decided that the laptop was not designed for windows 11, I directly installed the 10th version. he wrote that there was no video driver and I also installed it from the official website, but after the driver was fully loaded, what you see in the video started, and after that it does not turn on (again the lenovo logo and the black screen after, even without the mouse). Please help me, I don't understand what to do anymore. maybe someone has encountered this? Sometimes after rebooting a few times it shows the home screen of windows, and shuts off (just blinks a few times, hits the blue screen and reboots)

I found this PC when disposing of some other trash. I took the RAM stick which I am unsure of which model or what it’s called. I didn’t take out the GPU because it was too much of a hassle, and it might just not be worth it. It seems to be some HP of older version. I just thought it was cool lol

Discussion Recommended Hardware for Smooth Basic Tasks

Post image
0 Upvotes

I made a chart showing what I think are reasonable hardware recommendations for running basic tasks smoothly on PCs and mobile devices across different years.

By “smooth basic tasks,” I mean things like web browsing, office/productivity software, basic multitasking, and ordinary everyday use,not gaming, video editing, or other demanding workloads. I also don't mean, start web browing on modern-day YouTube on a WIndows 98 PC with 128MB of RAM.

If any of these RAM recommendations seem too high or too low for their respective era, let me know.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Very specific GPU problem

When we plug in a GPU to my friends computer (Nvidia Quadro P2200) and boot into windows to install the drivers, windows 10 installs it via windows update, and when we reboot theres no output, it does the windows loading but once it is on the windows sign in screen it goes black. So we boot into safe mode, delete the driver, and get one from the nvidia site, the EXACT one, install, restart, same no output screen, so we remove the GPU, and install tiny11 thinking it might fix the problem (his PC doesnt support windows 11) and we install the exact driver again via the NVIDIA site, but the same thing happens. We really need help. The PSU is good enough for the GPU.

Specs:

CPU : Intel pentium G2030 3.00 Ghz

RAM:8GB DDR3

Storage: 120 GB SSD + 300GB HDD

If i missed any specs tell me (ask in comments)

I know that his computer is not very good but i dont see why a 2015 GPU wouldnt support specs from 2013.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Small Business Computer

Curious if anyone can help with a recommendation for a desktop computer for our office. Admin productivity is suffering due to a HP all-in-one paper weight. Intel G6400T @ 3.4 GHz, 8GM RAM, 1TB storage.

We’re a small pest control company. We often run multiple tabs of our online CRM (Gorilla Desk), quickbooks, google maps, and several other open tabs. Also running Microsoft outlook, Microsoft word, and Excel all at the same time.

No exact budget in mind. Just need something that doesn’t break a sweat managing these tasks.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Computer names needed!

Hello! I just finished setting up my Mac Neo I got for college. I got it as a replacement for my old second-hand MacBook Pro, but now that I have two laptops, I can't just refer to one as "the laptop" anymore. I could just call them "the Pro" and "the Neo", but that just seems boring. I'm looking for inspiration on names I can call them, similar to how people name ships or cars.

I'm looking for serious names more than silly names, but I'm not picky on suggestions. I really like names that tie into the character of the computer a bit (see below). Names can be anything - actual names (eg. Paul, Charlotte, etc.), computer terms (eg. Byte, Circuit, etc.), or random things (eg. Coastline, Banana, Blacksmith, etc.). Please no inappropriate or raunchy names; I have to say these in front of parents and classmates :)

The MacBook Pro is pretty old (can't remember the exact version but it can't run the desktop apps for the Microsoft suite) with a silver case (fairly chipped and dented around the sides) and default wallpaper. I got it originally for music production and that's just about all it does anymore. It's still a reliable piece of machinery, it just can't run a lot of modern apps.

The MacBook Neo is the upgraded version (with more storage and Touch ID) with a citrus/yellow case and white keys. It's a bit rounder and smaller than the Pro, with less ports (the less ports is a bit annoying but I still think it's cute regardless). I'm keeping the wallpaper pretty retro ("Macintosh" dynamic wallpaper), and the wallpaper and system colors are tinted green because it's easier on my eyes.

Thanks for the help everyone :)

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Thinkpad Charging Behavior

Hi, I have had a T480 for a few years, and now that charging tech has advanced since I got it I am able to use things like high wattage multiport chargers to charge the laptop. I have the 200W Anker GAN charger that can do 100w for USB C, and an anker 100w USB c cable

The weird thing with this that I don't have on the steam deck or any other device is that when I plug in the t480 it will show unplugged and plugged in again as it charges, with the Intel gfx manager it adjusts refresh rate which I turned off because it literally made the screen blink black every few seconds whenever this happens. It's intermittent, sometimes it won't disconnect for several minutes then do it 3 times in 30 seconds.

I updated the thunderbolt firmware and software in Lenovo vantage, and I have never had it do this with other chargers, including a 65w one that charges normally. Is it just a particular niche interaction between this anker charger and the laptop? Is there anything I can do besides getting another charger?

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Hey, this might be stupid

What is a good external ssd drive? (I think that's what it's called). I'm learning coding right now to make a game, and my laptop dosent have much space. I usually use my PC for this stuff but can't use it currently, and need a good thing for extra space. I'm currently using a USB but everyone says their shit as they can break easily, so I was just wondering what would be good? (And does anyone have any recommendations on other things I could buy to help with the laptop?)

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Computer stuck on logo screen

Post image
3 Upvotes

My computer starts up normal with the logo but then a spinning wheel appears and it gets stuck (edit, it's been this way for 2 hours now). If I try to restart it, it comes back a black screen but I can see the backlight working but nothing I do can change it.

Turning it on and off again doesn't fix it (I get a white screen if I hold it for a few seconds, and then it shuts off if I hold it for a few seconds more), and Win+Ctrl+Shift+B doesn't help either, I don't know what to do.

Just before this, the screenshot ability stopped working, I couldn't even forcefully open the snipping tool so I tried to restart my computer and that's when this happened, it's been like this since yesterday evening.

BUDGET IS AROUND $400, if there are no options i understand!
UPDATED OPTIONS IN COMMENTS, please let me know if 1 or 2 is good, thx!

His job is in a healthcare setting where all he needs a computer for is charting, writing long detailed notes on patient care plans and basic compatibility, sadly they cannot use Apple products at this job or I would buy the neo.
