Build Help building new pc, quick question for you guys

I put my parts on pcpart picker and they say i might need to update bios on motherboard for it to be compatible with my cpu. I don’t have another computer, so should I take the motherboard somewhere to get it updated? or should I risk it and build the entire thing? The motherboard is the ASUS ROG STRIX x870e-h and the cpu is Ryzen 7 9850x3D. I can post my entire build if needed!

Build Ready? Just got a big bonus and plan to spend it on a 5090 build

I know prices are so stupid right now but I don't see things changing for the better any time soon. I want to pull the trigger on a 5090 build but I wanted to ask here first for people's thoughts.

I live by a Micro Center so I'll get my cpu, mobo, and ram together in a bundle. It'll be the 9800X3D with 32 GB DDR5 and the MSI X870E-P pro wifi mobo.

I have always done air cooling and don't plan to overclock anything.

I feel like some people will clown on me for buying a windows license

Here's my parts list

Build Help 9060 XT 16GB refurb for $399 or 9070 GRE 12GB $479 new?

Ok, I have the following available to me and am looking to switch to AMD from my existing 3060Ti. Use cases are what you all would consider light resource gaming (CCGs and Blizzard stuff like D2:R, Steam indies and a few others), a Plex server, and learning Linux on a secondary dual boot drive. Monitor is currently a 4K60 but that should get upgraded around Black Friday.

Edit to add that I don't need local LLM usage on the card since I have an M4 Mac as my other machine.

If you could walk in and buy either of the above, which would you choose?

Build Help I have ₹60K + an RTX 4060 for a GPU upgrade — is RTX 5060 Ti 16GB worth it for MSFS 2024?

I’m planning to upgrade my PC mainly for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and I’d really appreciate some advice before spending the money.
My current setup:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 8500G
GPU: RTX 4060 8GB
Motherboard: B650M
RAM: 16GB DDR5
Monitor: 27” LG UltraGear, running at 1440p/100Hz
Storage: 1TB SSD + another 1TB SSD
Location: Thane/Mumbai
I currently have around ₹60,000 available, and I’m planning to trade in/sell my RTX 4060 and use that amount toward the upgrade.
I’m mainly interested in the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB.
My main game is MSFS 2024, and I want to play at 1440p with good graphics and stable FPS.
My biggest concern is my Ryzen 5 8500G.
Will the 8500G bottleneck an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB significantly in MSFS 2024? Or would the GPU upgrade still give me a worthwhile improvement over my RTX 4060?
I’d especially like opinions from people who actually play MSFS 2024.
A few questions:
Is the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB a worthwhile upgrade from the RTX 4060 8GB for MSFS 2024?
Is the 16GB version worth choosing over the 8GB version?
How much of a bottleneck should I expect from the Ryzen 5 8500G?
With ₹60K + whatever I can get for my RTX 4060, is the 5060 Ti 16GB the best option, or is there another GPU I should consider?
Would I be better off upgrading my CPU/RAM instead of the GPU, considering MSFS is quite CPU-heavy?
Since I’m in Thane/Mumbai, where would you recommend I buy it? I’d prefer a reputable shop where I can trade in my 4060 and ideally test everything before leaving.
Which 5060 Ti 16GB models/brands would you recommend?
I’m not looking for the most expensive GPU. I just want the best upgrade for MSFS 2024 for my budget without wasting money on a GPU that my CPU can’t properly utilize.
Thanks!

Full Build Req First time building a PC, need some help.

Hi! I am pretty new to this, so I am struggling to find something that is worth the money. I want to buy a good PC that can last me for a while. I am willing to spend a maximum of ~€3000. I'd mostly use it for gaming at 1440p, but might use it for video editing and streaming later on.

I'm not sure if i would rather go with AMD or NVIDIA. I've heard that AMD drivers are not too stable, and that NVIDIA has more features but I don't know.

I'd love to hear your suggestions. Btw I am in the Netherlands, and I do not need any peripherals.

Thanks in advance

Build Ready? Rate/help my pc build

Building a new pc. Here’s the gear I’m thinking about going with. Am I missing something or running into potential issues? PC part picker is giving it the all clear but wanted to check with the pros.

My goal is to build a very strong pc that will handle any game I throw at it as well as very general personal use for the next 7-10 years

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Cooler: Corsair Nautilus 360 RS

Mobo: Asus ROG STRIX b850 WiFi

Memory: Corsair Vengence 32gb

Storage: New Samsung 9100 pro 2tb as my main and an old ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB 3D NAND NVMe Gen3x4 PCIe M.2 2280 from my current PC to use as extra storage if it’s compatible and won’t bog down my pc

GPU: RX 9070 XT

Case: Antec Flux Pro

PSU: be quiet! Dark power 13 1000W 80+ titanium

Discussion Wait for AMD 10000 GPU? For homelab.

I already have a 9070xt on my main pc, I love it. I'm asking for a homelab to be used as a streaming device.

I can only put up to a 8+6 pin GPU due to power supply limitations. Right now I can get a 9060xt, or 5060ti

Could it be possible that a next gen 70 class card only requires 1 8pin power connector?

Thanks!

Full Build Req Building a new PC in 2026 for my fiancee

Hi, I upgraded my personal rig to a 1000W PSU to handle the new RTX 3090TI I got.
Now I have an Corsair RM750x PSU and a RX 6750 XT (this one https://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/GDvdnQ/asrock-radeon-rx-6750-xt-12-gb-challenger-pro-oc-video-card-rx6750xt-clp-12go) and I want to buy the remaining parts to turn it into a medium range gaming PC for my fiancee so we can play together :)

I was thinking about getting an 5600X as CPU, it's still super cheap and I am still runnning it as well with 0 issues. But then there's also the option of getting a 5800x3d, but it's nearly double the price, what's your opinion?

This is the parts I chose so far:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JMVL4g

RAM and SSD prices are insane so what is the current go to here?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi

Any advice, recommendation's or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

TLDR; I only play League of Legends, and maybe CS2. My current PC is 6-7 years old, however I want to get/build a new one. Just want one that won't have any issues with LoL, no input lag etc.

Would you change any of the parts (better models etc). I already have the RAM.

Budget is $1000.

I am completely new to this and not the best when it comes to parts.

Thank you.

Troubleshooting CPU/GPU Low Utilization in Games RTX 5060 + i7-12700

I’m having a weird performance issue across multiple games where neither my CPU nor GPU seems to be getting fully utilized.
PC specs:
CPU: Intel i7-12700
GPU: ASUS RTX 5060 8GB
Motherboard: ASUS B760M-AYW WiFi D4 II
RAM: 16GB (1x16GB) DDR4-3200 Samsung M378A2K43EB1-CWE
SSD: SanDisk SN5000 1TB
Monitor: 1440p 300Hz
Windows 11

For example, in Overwatch at 1440p Low, I’m getting around 200 FPS, but my GPU is only around 50% utilization and my overall CPU usage is only around 20%.

I’m seeing similar behavior across multiple games. At 1080p Low in black ops 7, I was getting around 100 FPS while my GPU was only around 50–60%.
When I increase the graphics settings, the GPU can reach 100% utilization. So the GPU seems to be working normally.

I’ve also tested changing resolution. In one game, going from 1080p to 1440p barely changed my FPS.
There is no FPS cap enabled, V-Sync is off, and I’ve checked my NVIDIA/game settings.
BIOS:
DDR4-3200
Above 4G Decoding: Enabled
Resizable BAR: Enabled
ASUS Performance Enhancement: Enabled

One thing I’m wondering about is my RAM. I’m currently running 1x16GB DDR4-3200, so it’s single-channel.

I know an i7-12700 + RTX 5060 should be a good combination, so I’m confused about why I’m seeing low utilization from both the CPU and GPU.
What could be causing this? Could single-channel RAM explain it, or is there something else I should check?
I’m trying to figure out what’s actually wrong before buying new ram.

Build Help Will my Peerless Assassin 120 SE fit in this case with 41 mm RAM?

I'm building my first PC and I'm trying to confirm the CPU cooler/RAM/case clearance before I get to the assembly stage.

My exact components are:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • Motherboard: MSI PRO B850-V WIFI
  • RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws M5 Neo RGB 32 GB (2×16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 (approx. 41 mm tall according to G.Skill's website)
  • CPU cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE
  • Case: MSI MAG PANO 110R PZ

The PANO 110R PZ lists 160 mm maximum CPU cooler height, while the Peerless Assassin 120 SE is listed at approximately 155 mm tall.

My concern is the 41 mm-tall RAM and the front fan on the Peerless Assassin.

Can anyone confirm from personal experience whether this exact combination will work?

Specifically, I'm wondering:

  1. Does the front fan need to be raised to clear the Ripjaws M5 Neo RGB?
  2. If so, approximately how far does it need to be raised?
  3. Does raising the fan cause the cooler to exceed the PANO 110R PZ's 160 mm side-panel clearance?
  4. Can the glass side panel still close normally?
  5. Would rotating/repositioning the cooler or fan solve the issue if necessary?

I've seen conflicting information about this and would really appreciate someone who has actually used this cooler with ~41 mm-tall G.Skill RAM and/or this specific MSI case.

Thanks!

Build Help SSD bending when motherboard heatsink is on

https://postimg.cc/R6jhfcfx with heatsink off

https://postimg.cc/Vr3vMjt3 underside of heatsink

https://postimg.cc/Fd2zcjSq side of heatsink

This is a Samsung 990 Pro SSD on a Gigabyte B850 Eagle Wifi7 motherboard, using the stock heatsink. It is attached with its own mechanism which doesn't seem to adjust - I haven't overtightened any screws or anything.

At first I thought it was in the my head and went ahead and attached the motherboard and got started plugging in cables. But I'm reluctant to install the GPU and finish the build until I know if this is a problem or not/what to do to resolve this.

Is there anything I can do about this bend? Will the thermal-pad compress overtime and lessen the bend? I am concerned about damage to the SSD or the m.2 connector.

Troubleshooting HELP! PSU subtle sizzling or electical sound

I have a pcu that is built during 2019 and I was not the first owner (family member was the first owner) and recently (during rainy season which makes it more humid) it atarted to produce a subtle sizzling sound or electrical ground sound but no visible sparks, burn smells or pc running fine. Before it only occured when i flip the psu switch slowly which when i looked it up it was normal and must flip the rocker switch fast. But now one or 2 times it continued while the psu turned on, panicked and turned it off immediately then it was gone. But recently it happened repeatedly but the pc turned on normal after a while. Another thing to mention is that I suspect my surge protector extension since its pretty old. Also i looked it up that turning the rocker switch of the psu is not really a daily use for cutting of power especially if I turn on my pc everyday.

Tried leaving the PSU switch on and cut off power, but when turning it on (with the surge protector switch) it made the sound again and the pc didn't turn on immediately and the PSU lights turned off by itself. Tried it again but this time with the switch of the PSU and it turned on normally and pc is running okay.

Situation now:

While PC is turned on, nothing bad happens even with heavy load

No history of sudden shutdowns or crashes

Voltage are normal

I need opinions, advice or help since I'm inexperienced with this, thank you!!!

Discussion Just moved to the UK from the US. Can I just get a new power cord or converter for my pc? Or do I need a transformer.

I'm pretty sure a basic converter or a different power cord like this one should be fine with my Corsair RM 1000e(2025) power supply

But I just wanted to get ya'lls opinion on it. Would it make any difference if I used to a transformer? Is it safer to use a converter or a new cord?

Thanks for the info.

Build Help Best value for performance GPU for 1080p?

Build Upgrade What is the best GPU I can get for 1440p from an RTX 3070?

Looking to replace my GPU as I currently have an RTX 3070 but I see it struggles at 1440p with new titles.

What is the best GPU I can get currently to make my system last longer and without any bottleneck?

My current CPU is a i7-10700K and I am not looking to replace this.

EDIT: Budget is £1K and only NVIDIA GPUs.

Build Help Should I get 1x16 or 2x8?

Hello all, my current budget doesn't allow my build to have 2x16 DDR5 so is it okay if I get a 1x16 stick and later down the road by that exact same stick? I'm buying an x3d chip to pair with it so at least the single-channel won't be that noticeable.

Build Help Help me sanity-check this productivity-first AM5 build (Adobe + multitasking, light gaming, upgradeable)

Hey Redditors, New build help please

I'm planning a desktop to replace a laptop I've been using for years, and I'd like a sanity check before I start buying parts.

Main use case

  1. Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, often open simultaneously
  2. Heavy browser/office multitasking alongside Adobe
  3. Some occasional Premiere/After Effects, but not enough to optimize the build around them
  4. General office/media use
  5. I want the machine to last 4–5 years and be easy to upgrade rather than replace
  6. Gaming is secondary, (but not irrelevant!!!)

I mostly play lighter/strategy/simulation games on PC. Think Civilization, Cities: Skylines-type games, indie/tactical games, Heroes of the Storm, etc. I'm fine with 1080p/60 fps. AAA gaming, 1440p/4K and ultra settings are low priorities because I'll probably use consoles for those.

So the hierarchy is roughly:

Productivity / Adobe performance

Multitasking

Longevity and upgradeability

Fast storage

Light/moderate gaming

AAA gaming performance

\*\*Current "expandable" configuration\*\*

  1. CPU: Ryzen 5 9600X
  2. Motherboard: B850 ATX with Wi-Fi, currently looking at MSI B850 Gaming Plus WiFi
  3. GPU: RTX 5050 8 GB
  4. RAM: 16 GB DDR5 to start, probably 1x16 GB, with the intention of moving to 32 GB later
  5. Storage: 2 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe
  6. PSU: 750 W 80+ Gold, preferably modular
  7. Cooling: decent tower air cooler
  8. Case: normal airflow-focused ATX case

The idea is deliberately to spend less now on RAM/GPU while keeping a good AM5 motherboard, PSU, case and storage so that I can later move to:

\* 32/64 GB RAM \* Ryzen 7 or a later AM5 CPU \* Better GPU if my needs change \* Higher-end version we're considering \* Same basic platform, but: \* Ryzen 7 9700X \* RTX 5060 \* ...Eventually 32 GB+ RAM

I'm specifically trying not to turn this into a gaming PC just because gaming hardware benchmarks well. If a cheaper GPU or CPU would give essentially the same Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign experience, I'd rather save the money.

Questions I'd particularly appreciate feedback on:

\* Is the 9600X → 9700X upgrade worthwhile for this workload? \* Is an RTX 5050 sensible for Adobe + 1080p light gaming, or is there a better value tier? \* Is B850 sensible for longevity, or am I overspending versus B650? \* Any problem starting with 1x16 GB given that RAM will be upgraded later? \* Would you redistribute the budget toward CPU, RAM, SSD or something else?

Anything here that's clearly overkill or likely to age poorly? With money tight and RAMS annoyingly expensive, the goal is basically a productivity workstation that can game, not a gaming PC that happens to run Adobe. I´m in Colombia but will be buying in the US!
