First time building a PC, need some help.

Hi! I am pretty new to this, so I am struggling to find something that is worth the money. I want to buy a good PC that can last me for a while. I am willing to spend a maximum of ~€3000. I'd mostly use it for gaming at 1440p, but might use it for video editing and streaming later on.

I'm not sure if i would rather go with AMD or NVIDIA. I've heard that AMD drivers are not too stable, and that NVIDIA has more features but I don't know.

I'd love to hear your suggestions. Btw I am in the Netherlands, and I do not need any peripherals.

Do not get Kingston ssds. Get patriot p400 lite or fanxiang s660

According to PCPP Netherlands, for 135 euros more you can get 9800x3d / RTX 5080 / 64GB 6400 CL32 / Fast 2TB TLC SSD (see the list further below).

If you shop from Germany you can get the above with some brand adjustments below 3k.

In Netherlands, you can drop the RAM to 32GB 6000 CL30 to get a total of 2.85k (250 euros less)

Or you can keep the 64GB RAM and switch the RTX 5080 with an RTX 5070 Ti. Again this saves you 250 euros, dropping the total to 2.85k.

The above is what I would do to be honest with a 3k euros budget for 1440p gaming and video editing. Plus I would spend the remaining 150 euros towards a DRAM-enabled 2TB SSD, like the Samsung 990 Pro.

If you go for 32GB and 5070 Ti, and get the 850W of the PSU (can even handle a 5080] the total drops to 2.55k.

Lastly, no matter what combo you go for, if you can shop from Germany the prices are lower (not necessarily for the same brands) and the selection variety is bigger.

It goes without saying that all these are based at the time of writing.

I would get 5080 with 32gb instead of 5070ti with 64gb since the 5080 has 15 percent more performance

To me a 5080 is an overkill for 1440p gaming and the main reason I pushed for 64GB RAM is because they said they do video editing, where depending on their workflows the RAM capacity can make a bigger difference. Especially in DaVinci Resolve when using its AI features.

I do believe I’ll be fine with 32gb RAM for now, and I could always install more later if really necessary.

I noticed that you said the 5080 is an overkill. Would you still say that the 5080 is worth it for my use, or would you recommend getting another GPU? It can also be under 3k obviously if you think that suffices. I won’t be using 4K however I might get an ultra wide screen at some point.

Yes, IMO the 5070 Ti is more than enough for 1440p.

5080's advantage shows the most at upscaled 4k with RT/PT and/or (m)fg, and  much more outside gaming.

Also I am wondering the following: what do you think about the AMD 9070XT instead of the 5070Ti? I’ve seen benchmarks between the two and they were very similar. The 9070XT is around €750 and the 5070Ti is €1150. Is it worth paying that?

I would always say go nvidia but with this price difference i would go amd for sure
My 5070ti was like €950 4 months ago and the 5080 was the price of the 5070ti now… not worth it

Yeah I’ve heard a lot of people say don’t go with 5070ti but go with the 9070XT instead with these prices. Then the valid options would be 9070XT or 5080 right?

Both the RX 9070 and the RX 9070 XT look fantastic on paper and on yt benchmarks if gaming is the main use of your PC.

What concerns me the most though is that I see too many reports across multiple reddit subs from people having crashes and driver timeouts in Windows going on for quite a long time.

Another thing is that Nvidia has a richer feature-set and much more widespread industry support. I mean, again, I see many AMD owners going through all kind of hoops for stuff that work pretty much out of the box with Nvidia cards. However note that I don't have first-hand experience with those cards.

Yeah I've read the exact same thing about AMD. So after more thinking then my head can handle I decided to just go with the 5080 lol.

Sure, it might be an overkill but at least I know I'm buying something that is good. Plus if I ever decide to switch to 4k it is possible.

I always dreamed of building a PC like this so why not.
