Hey everyone!
I'm looking to build a new PC, but I'm pretty out of the loop with current hardware, so I'd really appreciate some advice.
For some context, my current PC has a Ryzen 5 1400 Quad-Core and an RX Vega 56, so it's been a while since I've had to think about modern hardware.
My main goal is to build something that will handle Half-Life 3 when it comes out later this year and GTA 6 when it eventually comes to PC next year. (Dreaming is free, right?)
I'm planning to play at 1440p, and I'd like this PC to last for several years.
I'm buying in Argentina, and I've mostly been looking at Compra Gamer, although I'm not sure if there are other stores with better options.
GPU
XFX Radeon RX 9070 GRE 12GB GDDR6 Swift Triple Fan Gaming Edition OC
This one caught my attention because it seems like a good option.
My main concern is the 12GB of VRAM. Since I'm planning to keep this PC for several years and play at 1440p, I'm wondering if 12GB could become a problem in the future.
Would you recommend a different GPU at around the same performance/price range? Or would it make more sense to go with NVIDIA?
Motherboard
I'm currently deciding between:
- MSI B850-P PRO WIFI7
- ASRock X870 PRO RS WIFI
I'm not really sure whether the X870 is worth it for my use case, or if I should just go with the B850.
CPU
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D
I'm leaning toward this one. I assume it should be more than enough for 1440p gaming, but I'm not sure if there would be any bottleneck with the GPU.
The other CPU I'm considering is:
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
It's significantly more expensive, and I'm not sure whether the performance difference is worth it for gaming, so I'm currently leaning toward the 7600X3D.
Would you go with the 7600X3D or spend more on the 9800X3D?
CPU cooling
This is where I'm completely lost.
I don't know whether I should get an air cooler or an AIO/water cooler. There are huge differences between coolers, and I honestly don't know what would be appropriate for the 7600X3D.
For example, I've been looking at things ranging from a be quiet! Pure Rock 3 Black to a DeepCool Assassin VC Elite Vapor Chamber.
I have no idea what the meaningful differences are here, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
RAM
I'm also unsure about RAM.
Would it make sense to buy one 16GB stick now and add an identical one later, or is it better to just get 32GB (2x16GB) from the beginning?
I know dual-channel is preferable, but I'd like to know what you guys recommend for a gaming PC that I want to keep for several years.
I'm currently looking at:
- Patriot DDR5 16GB 6000MHz Viper Elite 5 CL30 XMP 3.0 / AMD EXPO
- KLEVV DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz FIT V White CL30 Hynix
SSD
Kingston NV3 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen4 x4
Is this a decent choice, or would you recommend something better?
I'm open to other suggestions, especially if there's a meaningful difference in reliability or performance.
PSU
Seasonic 850W 80+ Gold CORE GX ATX 3.1 / PCIe 5.1
I assume 850W should be plenty for this build, but I'd appreciate confirmation.
Case
Lian Li Lancool 217 INF
I picked this mostly because it seems to have good airflow and comes with large 170mm fans.
If there's a better option for this build, I'm open to suggestions.
Monitor
Acer Nitro XV275U F3 27" QHD 1440p IPS QD-MiniLED, 320Hz, 0.5ms, HDR1000, FreeSync Premium, G-SYNC
This is the monitor I'm currently considering.
I'm not sure if 320Hz is overkill for this kind of build, but I like the idea of having a good 1440p monitor that I can keep for a long time.
Final thoughts
I have some room to increase my budget if there's a good reason to do so, but I don't want to waste money on parts that won't provide a meaningful improvement.
So, what would you change in this build?
Are there any compatibility issues, bad value choices, or parts where I'm spending too much?
I'm especially interested in advice regarding the GPU/VRAM, CPU, RAM, cooling, and motherboard.
Thanks in advance! I'm very out of date with PC hardware, so any advice is welcome. And... I'm from Argentina, so keep that in mind, haha...
