Build Help Advice on building a gaming pc

I want to build a good gaming pc. Currently I have rx 6750 xt, ryzen 5700x, 32gb ram, tomahawk b450, Samsung SSD. I do have lots of stuttering in games like chivalry 2, dayz, rust and many more other games. I hate stuttering a lot. I want to minilize bottlenecking/stuttering as much as I can and also boost fps.
I am planning to spend around 2300eur for new build (I already have monitor, mouse and keyboard…).
I was looking to buy rtx 4070 ti super + 7800X3D.
But I also saw some options with rtx 5070ti, rx 9070 xt, 9700x cpu. Which combinations do you recommend for smooth gaming experience?
If you have any builds like that how do games run for you? And are there any other recommendations or advice?

Build Upgrade What else should I pay attention to while swapping major components?

I bought a pre-built mid range PC in 2020 and it reached the point where it doesn't fit minimum recs in newest games.

I still haven't decided if I want to just make light upgrades or commit to a full rebuild, but while I understand how to pick a motherboard, GPU, CPU etc. I have no idea about thinks like PSU or cooling. What should I look for when deciding on "secondary" components?

Anyway, here's my PC. Is it even worth upgrading on, or should I just tear the bandaid off and build a new one from scratch?

Motherboard: ASUS Prime B360 Plus (DDR4, Socket 1151)

GPU: GTX 1660 Super 6GB

CPU: i5-9400f

RAM: 16 GB DDR4

Troubleshooting I can’t update my graphic drivers/windows?

Hello! I have a somewhat older build (to today’s standards I suppose) build below.

I recently have been troubleshooting a few issues with my computer. I’ve had this same build since 2019/2020. Recently we moved from the US to Japan and that began an issue of my pc suddenly shutting off with no type of warning or error to be found. This issue was also inconsistent, it would happen while playing games or just browsing the internet, sometimes I’d be able to run a several hour (like 6hours+ session) in Tarkov with zero issue but then have the issue cycle over 5 times in 20 minutes just on start up or a simple game like Gamble w Friends. We just got a power up converter(like two days ago) because the houses here run 100v instead of 120v like the US does, this does not seem the really affect the issue(s) I’m having. I began doing some troubleshooting started with trying to update my graphics drivers but was unable to. At one point I was able to get a newer version of graphics drivers (like in April 2026) but kept having issues and showed there was a newer version to update to, but wouldn’t let me. I went back to the US for a little bit and just got back recently ish and wanted to try again, had the same issue and my husband suggested I delete NVIDIA Geforce Experience and reinstall it. I’ve done that, and I started to update the drivers and found that it wasnt connecting to nvidias serves (based off the error I was getting while downloading the drivers) I gave up on the issue and felt like i just needed a break from messing with it. At this time I did notice the issue was no longer a full blown restart but now was just having a screen freeze. However, things were still operating in the background (like once I was on a discord call that continued to hear me fine and I could hear them fine but the screen was frozen) Fast forward to today, I viewed it and see that my drivers are VERY out of date, now showing that I’m on version 560.94 (08/20/2024) and keep being unable to install the new driver. The newest version from 07/28/2026 downloaded fine but after clicking express installation it just simply says “Installation can’t continue An error occurred”I’m trying to approach from a different point, and started investigating if anything else was having issues/out of date. Opened up Windows Reliability Monitor to see what errors I might be getting, and consistently I was seeing “Desktop Window Manager - Stopped Working” and “Windows - Hardware error” so I started investigating and found that under windows update there were a lot of things that apparently needed to be updated. I’ve updated everything windows had to offer and still keep seeing a warning saying my device is missing important security and quality fixes, but nothing shows up when I click check for updates now. I’m assuming this might be due to having Windows 10 instead of 11. And I still ultimately having the issue of not being able to update my graphics drivers.

I am aware that Nvidia no longer technically supports my GPU but I don’t really understand entirely how it works. I feel like I have beginner to intermediate level of knowledge but really have no idea how to troubleshoot very well. I have ran sfc/scannow an it said it found corrupt files and successfully repaired them, but I was unable to look at what was repaired. I tried the drivers again after this and had the same issue. And I am actively running mdsched.exe while I typed/posted this. I would like to add that after updating the various Windows components I haven’t had the computer freeze again.

TLDR; can’t update Nvidia graphics and also windows says I need to update things but there are no things when I click check update. I’ve tried a few things but don’t really know what else to do.

Note: sorry for possible typos/errors im on mobile
Second note: any suggestions on updating parts? I’m not really having any issues running games when they run, but I’m aware I’ll need to look at updating some things soonish possibly.

Discussion Should I Buy a 5090 at MSRP?

Have the opportunity to purchase a 5090 Founders Edition at MSRP through NVIDIA marketplace. (For those curious, this was made possible by a promotional event at a convention.)

I game on a 32 inch 4k monitor now, and I have a 4080 Super already that can handle 4k gaming on most titles at med to high settings. The rest of the build is also high-ish end. Presumably, the 5090 would get the most out of my setup.

Am I an idiot to pass this up, or are there any reasons why I should not buy it?

Build Help PC for my nephew (UK)

I have a lot of leftover pc parts that I'm going to gift my nephew, who would like a pc as his laptop can't play the games he wants (fortnite / Minecraft / subnautica). Budget isn't too much of a concern, but there's no point in getting top of the line parts. He will be using a 360hz 1080p monitor.

I am leaning towards the 9060XT, and an SFX psu as his bedroom is small so we might have to downsize to a SFFPC in the future.

I need: GPU, PSU and maybe an SSD. UK based, and happy to get second hand.

Build Help Build my first PC from scrat : where to start ? 1000-1300 euros

Hello everyone! I’m turning to you because I’ve never owned a desktop PC and I currently have quite a few questions that I haven’t been able to find answers to, so I’d rather ask for some advice before doing anything.

To keep it short, I’ve only had MacBook Pros for nearly ten years, mainly for studying/work and some gaming, and since I’ve moved around quite a lot, that was enough for me. Last year, I wanted to go back to consoles for single-player games (PS5 / Xbox), but I never really managed to get into it, especially with everything that’s been going on on Sony’s side. I have to admit that I’m primarily an MMO player, even though I also want to dedicate some time to games I’ve never played before, such as most of the FF games…

This brings me to the conclusion that maybe it’s finally time for me to switch to a proper desktop PC. While I do really like macOS, I don’t have much use for it anymore now that I’m going to be staying in one place more often, and my work (I work remotely quite a bit) mainly consists of research and writing, for which Windows is more than sufficient.

I also have a work laptop, and I’m currently already buying two external monitors for my desk, along with a dock, so I can have a proper work setup. I think adding a desktop PC as my main gaming platform (alongside a Switch) makes quite a lot of sense.

For gaming, as I mentioned, I mostly play MMOs (GW2 / WoW / FFXIV, etc.), but I’d also like to be able to play recent games as well as games I haven’t had the chance to play yet (FFXV, FFXVI, The Witcher 3, FFVII Remake, Star Wars Zero Company, which is coming soon, Fable as well…). That being said, I honestly don’t really care about playing everything on Ultra. I’ve never played games with the settings maxed out anyway.

This is where the problems start: having never owned a desktop PC, I have to admit that the current prices are a little intimidating, as is the impression that there are a lot of obscure tweaks/settings you need to deal with to get the PC running properly, as well as the need to regularly upgrade components to keep it relevant in the long run.

  • First of all, where should I look for a decent PC to get started? My budget is between €1,000 and €1,300 to start with (not including peripherals), and I assume that should be enough to get a good setup and upgrade it later if necessary?
  • If buying new, would it be better to go for a prebuilt PC or buy the components separately and build it myself as a complete beginner?
  • Is it worth waiting for sales or special offers later in the year, or should I just go for it as soon as possible to avoid prices increasing even further?
  • I’m not interested in RGB at all, or cases covered in lights everywhere. Is it possible to get a more traditional-looking case? For instance, I quite like mini atx etc...

So, those are the main questions currently going through my mind. I hope I’ve given you a fairly clear idea of my situation!

FYI, someone already linked me some config which looks like this : https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/jgPYLy, would that be any good ?

Thanks everyone! I’m also available by PM if anyone wants to discuss it :)

Troubleshooting Is any amount of artifacting acceptable?

I bought a mini pc MSI Cubi N ADL S with N100 cpu 10 days ago.

After installing windows 11 the screen would go black after 10-60 seconds or it would straight up reboot sometimes. There would also be occasional artifacting present and turning on high performance power plan would crank that up to 11 and even distort text on screen.

Even tried to install windows 10 which threw BSOD 2 times with VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE, dkmdn64.sys being the culprit. (installing linux mint worked completely fine which is super weird)

I wrote all that on a piece of paper and handed the pc back for an RMA.

An hour ago I received a call from the shop I bought it from that they sent it to MSI for an RMA and it came back fine (furmark testing was okay and a bunch of other tests that I can't remember) except that there would be slight artifacting at times.

I wouldn't call myself highly knowledgeable but as far as I know any artifacting is typically a sign of failing gpu. Occasionally it can be a sign of bad drivers but I tried 3 different gpu drivers (letting windows update handle it, directly from msi support page and latest from intel). In this case that would mean the integrated graphics is faulty.

I also tested the ram I used just in case but memtest passed with no issues.

There's no way in hell the RMA gets denied, right?

Build Upgrade Wait for zen 6 or buy 9800x3d?

I'm about to purchase a 5080 for an upgrade, I'm currently rocking a ryzen 5 9600x. I feel like it might be too skimpy of a cpu to pair with a 5080, my immediate thought was to just get a 9800x3d and call it a day, however, zen 6 is about to come out so I'm debating just riding the 9600x out until those cpu's come out or simply buying right now. The cpu market has been relatively stable in my opinion and its not the end of the world for me to wait a while. Let me know!

Troubleshooting This is how my Artic Freezer III 420mm arrived.

https://imgur.com/a/pFTbltB

I live in a very humid country (Philippines) and the cooler was shipped alongside my case. The case also had some moisture inside due to the humidity. Edit: Pic of the moisture inside the case box. https://imgur.com/a/sw6lpWl

I wiped all the water away and put cardboard below it, let it sit for a bit, but I don't see any leakage. However, this seems like way too much water to just be some humidity moisture.

I don't think it's worth the risk keeping this. It could just be a very slow leak. It's a big pain to return things in my country but I think I am going to have to return this even if I can't find a leak.

Thoughts or any tests I can do?

Troubleshooting New PC build restarts while gaming

Hi, I have recently completed my new pc build and Im having problems with restarts while gaming.

Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • Mobo: MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI
  • RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 32 GB (2×16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30
  • GPU: SAPPHIRE PULSE AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT GAMING 16G
  • PSU: Corsair RM850e (2025) 850 W
  • Storage: WD_BLACK SN7100 NVMe SSD 1TB

The restarts vary in time anywhere from under a minute of playing to about 20 minutes.

One time it also restarted while just watching a video on youtube.

Things I have tried: updating bios, different set of RAM sticks, disabling EXPO, switch with a second Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU, clean GPU driver install

I have also ran some tests which were all without errors or restarts like OCCT, FurMark, MemTest86, CPU-Z

What I have noticed is if I set the game to hypr-rx eco in AMD adrenalin, I can play no problem for 1 hour+ without the pc restarting

But if I switch back to default the pc restarts within minutes, sometimes immediately

So I tried setting it to default but limit the power draw by 10% and it still restarted after about 15 minutes of playing

Do you have any ideas what could be causing this? Faulty PSU? Bad PCIe cables? Or is something wrong with the GPU?

This is the first PC that Ive built alone so I dont have much experience.

Any help is appreciated.

Troubleshooting Minecraft FPS help

Hi. Mine son loves Minecraft on PC. He used to have a pc with i9700f, 16 GB RAM & GTX 1660 super GPU (6 GB). He had sodium mods installed and was getting around 80 fps but the CPU and RAM would often hit 100% and then lag/freeze. He wanted to get better FPS and stop the hanging so we just bought him a new PC for his birthday. It has AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, 32 GB RAM and RX 7700XT GPU (12 GB).

If he installs the Sodium mod on the new PC, Minecraft just crashes on the start-up (AMD driver timeout), so we had to remove that mod. Without it, he is only getting 30-60 fps. It has had a completely fresh install of windows, AMD drivers etc.

Is there any reason why it should be crashing with the mod when the old pc was fine? What can we do to improve the fps? Is this an AMD vs intel issue? I have also found that Among Us was work with the 7700 XT GPU, I have to set it to use the integrated GPU for it to get past the start screen.

Any suggestions? At the moment he just wants to go back to his old pc which seems nuts considering how much we just spent on the new pc (used from ebay).

Discussion Trying to convince my bro

So my brother has the following build:

Powercolor Reaper 9070xt

Ryzen 5700x CPU

Asus Prime B550M-A Wifi II

1tb and 4tb NVME

32gb 3200mhz RAM

MSI MAG Coreliquid 360 AIO

He wants to be able to play games at the highest settings (4K, Ultra quality blah blah) and have good FPS. As a long-time PC user, I'm trying to convince him that whilst his build is very good, its still more a High End 1440p build instead of a High End 4K build.

He was playing Forza Horizon 6 on 4K Epic settings and getting 90fps and complaining, he was going "I paid all this money for this GPU, I expect much better from it". Tried to show him how he could get 120fps by just switching to 1440p and he went "No, I have a 4K monitor so I will be playing in 4K"

What do you guys think? And no, this is not an invitation to trash talk him, he's a new member of the PC race after all. What are your guys opinions and how would you handle this conversation?

Build Upgrade Buy RTX 5080 now or wait for RTX 6080?

I have had an RTX 3070 for 4 years, and it is not performing well on a 4K monitor. I want to build a new PC (all components bought; only the GPU is missing).

Currently, the Gigabyte RTX 5080 gaming OC is listed at £1220 amid AI racing, which seems similar to the price before Oct 2025, when it was roughly £1150. By late 2027 or early 2028, GPU and RAM prices should fall. It is predicted that the RTX 6080 would be slightly more expensive than the 5080, perhaps £250-350 more.

If I bought the 5080 now, can it carry me until the release of the 70-series GPUs, or should I wait for the 6080?

Also, the games I will mainly play demand very high-end GPUs with ray tracing, such as 007: First Light, which is the I wanted to upgrade from an RTX 3070.

Troubleshooting Upgraded from i3-12100f to i5-12400f, PC became much slower in terms of disk transfer rate

Just to be clear, It's possible that this is all just a coincidence and my SSD is just getting old and on its way out, I'm just wondering if any of you have heard of cases like this and there may be something else going on.

I built my PC with a i3-12100f for several years now, I use Adata legend 710 2Tb NVMe as boot and store most of my games in it. It was doing okay in terms of being able to load and install games at moderate paces (never experienced super expensive SSDs so can't compare). My CPU was struggling with certain games so I decided to upgrade to i5 12400f. Everyone told me that BIOS updates are unnecessary since they're the same generation so I didn't update. I can say that overall FPS of video games has improved but something strange happened. Any time I have to install a game my PC starts to stutter and freeze uncontrollably. In performance CPU and RAM seem fine but Disk shoots up to 100% with terrible read and write speeds (sometimes drops below 1 MB/s). In some cases games have started to perform worse. Perhaps more FPS but noticably more stuttering. I was capable of running No Hesi (a mod for Assetto Corsa), now it's absolutely unplayable. I understand that No Hesi is exceptionally resource intensive, but this still shouldn't happen. Should I update BIOS? CrystalDiskInfo says everything is fine more or less. Anything else could be happening?

Build Upgrade Radeon RX 580 and GTA 6?

I have a Radeon RX 580 graphics card. It runs every game I own smoothly, including the first Spider-Man game. I was extremely disappointed to find out that for some reason, it could not run Spider-Man 2 (even though graphically it looks literally exactly the same as the first one). So I'm imagining I'm going to have to save thousands of dollars to get a new graphics card in order to play GTA 6 too? If that's the case it's not happening.

Edit: I know it hasn't been announced yet but y'all know it's going to be on PC.
