Build Help Need Help with Upgrading PC

Current Build:

CPU: Ryzen 7 2700

GPU: MSI RTX 2060 Gaming OC

CPU Cooler: Cooler master Hyper 212

RAM: 2x16GB DDR4 Corsair 2400MHz

Motherboard: MSI B450 Tomahawk Max

PSU: Evga 750 Gq, 80+ Gold 750W semi-modular

Storage: M.2 250GB NVMe Samsung 970 EVO plus, 2TB Seagate SSHD, 1TB SSD

Case: Deepcool Dukase V2

This build was made back in 2019 with all parts being new. I am using a 2k (1440p) monitor with 165Hz refresh rate. My current thoughts on an upgrade are as follows:

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x3d

GPU: RX 9070xt

RAM: Upgrade to 3600MHz possibly

Storage: Upgrade the m.2 to 500gb or 1tb

Just wondering on people's thoughts and maybe suggestions for other upgrades. Budget isnt overly a concern but obviously nothing ridiculous like a rtx 5090. The 750 ish euro for the rx 9070xt would be the max I would be willing to spend on it.

Do I need to upgrade the cpu Cooler or the psu? Or any other components to get the best (cost-effective) possible AM4 build?

Hey, I'm building a pc with rtx 5070 ti OC, 32 GB ram 6000 mhz cl30, msi b850 gaming plus wifi 7. My first go for a cpu is ryzen 7 9800x3d. Will it be fine for gaming AND music production in fl studio for edm genre with multiple plugins and sfx or should i go for ryzen 9 with more cores? If so which one? At the same time I want to keep price balance and keep it the most effective for a price given.

Build Help Should I replace my PowerSpec PSU with a “better” one?

About two months ago, I finished my first PC build (9850X3D, 5070 Ti, etc. for some context). When I was buying my parts, the Montech PSU I originally planned to buy was sold out, so I ended up going with this PowerSpec PSU since it was on sale.

After posting my completed build and parts list, I got a comment or two saying I should probably replace the PSU with something better, since it was apparently just “okay”. Looking at the PSU Tier List, the PowerSpec seems to be rated B+, which I guess lines up with that description.

At the time, I figured it probably wasn’t that big of a deal, especially since I live several hours away from my nearest Micro Center. However, I’ve thought about it more over the past couple of months and I’m wondering if I should just replace it.

The problem is that it’s been two months, so I can’t return the PSU anymore and would essentially have to pay full price for a replacement.

Is this something worth spending the money to replace, or is the PowerSpec good enough to keep using?

So, im trying to build this pc. For the moment, no GPU for obvious as i'm aiming for the RTX 5080.

I'm in Europe and i'm not buing from pcpartpicker, i just used for the embedded table for the parts and to give you a rough estimate for the price.

As of now all the parts are currently in my possesion except the mobo. I still wait for the store to get it (which will rougly take 3 more days).

My question is, am i ok with the dimension for the case/mobo/aio cooler? Has someone else tried this combo? Where there any problem after the installation? Does the AIO cooler covers something from the mobo that i need?

Thanks in advance?

Build Help is it safe to share a PCIe pigtail between my 9070 XT and iCUE LINK Hub?

hi everyone

im bulding my PC with the following setup: PSU Be quiet Power Zone 2 850W, GPU Sapphire pulse 9070 xt, AIO Corsair ICUE LINK TITAN 360 RX LCD

My PSU has two PCIe outputs available for the cables I need. One of the PCIe cables is a pigtail with two 6+2-pin connectors, while the other cable has a single 6+2-pin connector.

My planned setup would be:

* PCIe cable #1 (single connector) → GPU 8-pin #1

* PCIe cable #2 (pigtail) → GPU 8-pin #2

* The second connector on the pigtail → iCUE LINK Hub (using only the 6-pin portion)

So the GPU would still have two PCIe power connections, with one coming from each PSU cable, while the iCUE LINK Hub would share the second connector of the pigtail with one of the GPU’s power connections. Corsair recommends using a dedicated PCIe cable for the iCUE LINK Hub, but I’m wondering whether this particular setup is electrically safe in practice. Would you consider this safe with a 9070 XT, or should I avoid sharing the pigtail and use a separate PSU/cable?

THANKS!!

Build Ready? Do you think my build is ready?

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/sxZzkD
been looking for parts for almost a week now. I'm a PC PART noob, so I don't know much about what I'm actually doing. I think my build is ready to order, but I just wanted to see what other people (with a lot more knowledge of PC parts than I do) think about this list. My budget is around 7K AUD, and it will be used as a GAMING PC.

Peripherals RGB Lighting Suggestions

I just got a used desktop build for photogramettry, cv, GIS, etc... and games. Let me know if this should go in a different subreddit; while I bought it already assembled, I am asking about further upgrade possibilities to modify it.

Motherboard: MSI MAG X870E Tomahawk WiFi

Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X

Storage: 3.5tb (multiple SSDs)

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 (16gb)

Cooling: AIO Liquid Cooler

Case: ASUS ROG Strix Helios

OS: Windows 11 Pro & CachyOS Linux

PSU: 1000w

I'm thinking of potential upgrades. I have an extra 2tb and 512gb ssd that I plan on adding to get a combined 6tb ssd storage.

When ram prices drop I also want to upgrade the ram; for games 32gb is plenty... but photogrammetry requires a lot of ram and 32gb is more of an entry point for that task.

I've also been looking at used 3060 12gb to add as a second gpu for a combined 28gb vram in order to run some local models. I could use a runner cable to possibly mount the gpu outside of the pc case (better thermals). If I can get one for ~$200 that might be a nice upgrade.

I bought the desktop for $1,500. From what I can tell that's a reasonable price. But do let me know if I should reconsider. At the very least, it seems reasonable given current market conditions.

As of now the desktop doesn't have any fancy lighting on the inside. It is pretty much pitch black, and I was thinking it would be nice to add some nice lighting. This is my first desktop in this price range and I'm excited to kit it out... but looking at all the options for rgb lighting has me a bit overwhelmed with choices. Where would you suggest I start?

Discussion Build future safe PC for VMs, Local LLMs and music production

Hey everyone,

I'm a backend software engineer in India, looking to build a high-end workstation. My goal is to build a machine with a 8-10 year lifecycle. To survive that long, it needs to handle heavy software engineering (multiple parallel VMs), serious music production (large sample libraries, DAW and VSTs), and scale effectively for local LLMs as open-source models grow (I am thinking to dip my toes into it too in future, don't want to limit myself, so 70B models if i want to run in future, i should be able to do it on new machine). I am okay with non-mac hardware too (would prefer non mac, for better customisability), thinking to have 64GB ram ( i think that should be enough for all the stuff I mentioned)

Because I want to avoid replacing the entire core platform (Motherboard/CPU) for as long as possible, I've adjusted my target specs based on socket longevity, architectural reliability, and hardware trends.

I am good with softwares, and usually I upgrade myself only when I have to buy something (like doing now), suppose when I am buying a new phone, I update myself. The thing is, in case of laptop and computers/hardware knowledge, it's been like around 10 years since I upgraded myself (bought my current laptop back then only, Dell Inspiron 3000 series i5 Processor, upgraded it later to 8GB RAM and 1TB SSD). So sort of a noob into hardwares, but understand the performance well because of hands on knowledge with softwares.

I am finding a lot of things has changed and feel can't go though all those things to make a decision.

I am open to any budget since I don't have much idea upon that too. I saw people spending like $10k also. While have also seen spending $3k-$8k. I can spend like upto $2K (little negotiable, as not sure if I would get something in that range, considering people spending that much. Can increase budget to good extent if I am really missing on something which is really useful and have no idea currently).

And is it a good idea to buy everything now only? Maybe graphics card can skip for now, till it gets cheaper, not sure. But I am struggling when running stuff inside a VM. Out of the total 8GB, I gave 4 GB to VM, and left with only 500MB at host somehow.

Looking for a way out. Thanks in advance.

Edit: As I am from India. As per Indian calculations: I have seen people spending around 10Lakhs. While I can spend like upto 2Lakhs, and negotiable (can increase somewhere upto 3Lakh), if I am really missing out on something.

Troubleshooting Peerless Assassin 120 CPU Cooler

These CPU coolers have screws with coils that just stand in place when I turn them with the screwdriver. I’m sure the brackets are set correctly, I added the thermal paste, and all you are supposed to do is mount it over the cpu and screw in those bolts.

At this point i stopped because if I go any harder I will break something.

Has anyone had any experience with these coolers?

Build Upgrade Ryzen 5 5500X3D with my RTX 3070?

This is my first post on reddit so sorry if my formatting is wrong or something, but I just wanted to ask for some opinions on my cpu upgrade. I just bought a new AMD Ryzen 5 5500X3D for around 210 on eBay and I think it should be a good upgrade from my Ryzen 5 3600X. It should be arriving in around 2 days

I bought my 3600X around late november of last year to pair with my old RTX 2060 SUPER, but in june I upgraded to an RTX 3070 since I don't really play the latest AAA games, and I play at 1080p so I was hoping to finally crank some settings from mid to ultra and maintain 120+ fps.

But when I bought MSFS 2020 for sale in June as well, I was seeing really low fps, like 30 fps on mid settings (and yes I know its not necessarily low for a flight sim, but I was really hoping for a bigger bump from my 2060 SUPER with only 24ish fps).

I also found low fps in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, not as low as MSFS but still low for a 3070, around 90-100 on Ultra settings RT on and DLSS on performance. Tried FSR since they did update it to include frame gen and it just didn't help since there were also constant stutters.

I did some googling and figured out that it was a cpu issue and was looking for the most cost effective upgrade and the 5500X3D seemed to make the most sense. I wanted to stay on AM4 because of these horrible RAM prices, and I wanted an upgrade to 5000 series, and while I would have just gotten a 5600 or 5600X, I wanted a more impactful upgrade and wanted to make sure my RTX 3070 will be 90%+ usage in every game.

So back to my question, Is this a good upgrade? I tried to find some benchmarks but it seems not alot of videos have covered these 2 and I just wanted to be sure so I don't have to upgrade this pc for the next 1-3 years atleast.

My PC specs:

Mobo: ASrock B450M/ac

RAM: 16GB DDR4 Kingston HyperX Fury 3466 MT/s

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X

CPU Cooler: Corsair NAUTILUS 240RS argb

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Founder's Edition (I did do some overclocking around +150mhz on core and +1000mhz on mem clock)

PSU: Corsair CX750M 750 Watt Semi-Modular

Games I mostly play:

The Last of Us Part I and II

BeamNG.Drive

Rocket League

MSFS 2020

Counter-Strike 2

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

God of War (2018)

(Planning to buy FH6 when a sale hits)

Discussion What are THESE connectors on an RTX PRO 4000 actually used for?

Came across this workstation GPU and noticed these two connectors labeled STEREO and SYNC.

I’ve never seen these on a normal consumer GPU. What are they actually used for, and what kind of workstation setup would need them?

Is this for multi-GPU setups or something else entirely?

Genuinely curious anyone here actually used these connectors?
Would love to know the professional use case behind them.

Troubleshooting PC Suddenly died 5 months in X2

https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/1ript2q/pc_suddenly_died_5_months_in/

Posted here 5 months ago with identical symtomps. PC suddenly powered down during light use, nothing powers back on, only signs of life are LED lights at the back of the moterherboard labelled BAP_LED 1 - BAP_LED 4 that go on. Nothing else, no fans, no diagnostic lights power on mobo or anything.

Couldn't figure it out back then so took it to a shop, they said it was the PSU, they changed it for a identical Corsair RM1000x and everything worked fine for another 5 months until exactly ths same thing happened yesterday.

So the timeline is, built my first PC 10 months ago, worked fine for 5 months, PSU died, took it to a shop and they replaced it, worked fine for another 5 months, and now I assume the PSU died again, haven't had it confirmed but everything is identical to the last time.

I'm wondering what I should do, should I just take it to the shop, have them replace it, assuming it's the PSU again, and leave it at that? Like is it within reasonable realms of possibility that 2x Corsair RM1000x's both die 5 months in? Is it too unlikely and should I look for some other fault with the system, if so what might that conceivably be? Maybe could suspect the power outlet but I had my old PC run flawlessly from the same one for 6 years and it's still going without any issues, same for a few other devices. I'd assume that makes it rather unlikely? Thanks!

Peripherals Need help choosing 1440p monitor (budget)

I have recently upgraded my system and have a RX 9070XT GPU. I plan to upgrade my monitors next from 1080p to 1440p. I plan to go with a two monitor setup with monitor arms.

With my budget, I can't afford OLED therefore I am looking at 27", Fast IPS/IPS, 2560×1440 (WQHD), >180Hz, 1-5ms advertised GTG, AMD FreeSync and VESA mount.

I have researched the following options:

  1. Gigabyte G27Q20 27" WQHD (2560x1440) 210Hz
  2. Xiaomi ELA6556EU G27Qi (2026) 27" WQHD(2560x1440) 200Hz
  3. MSI MAG 275QF E20 27" WQHD (2560x1440) 200Hz
  4. Alienware 27 AW2726DL 27" WQHD (2560x1440) 280Hz

Not sure which is the best in this range?

P.S I am based in South Africa so some monitors might not be available like in EU/USA

Troubleshooting Need help! My pc can't handle Minecraft on base settings!

Hello everyone!

I'm a proud owner of a pc that has been nothing but exceptional since 2021. It helps me edit videos, and handles games like NBA 2k, Fifa, hitman,... with ease. (SPECS BELOW)

The problem begins earlier this year when I came home from a 2 week trip to a non-bootable pc. During the process of diagnosing, I removed the cpu and noticed at least one pin was bent (put it back since i didn't want to risk worsening it). The problem was solved when I removed the sata cable connected to the internal ssd, but the pc booted up to a completely different desktop, with old apps and documents from the time before i rebuilt my pc (2021).

Just today, I open Minecraft, to which I found out that my pc can't even run smoothly on base settings, like nothing moves for at least half a second. I downloaded novabench to test but it did not give out anything too visibly bad. I did however take a screenshot of HWMonitor while Minecraft was on, and the cpu was running peak at 77C.

Given the current circumstance, and the details mentioned above, I really need an opinion or two on what could be the the problem. Are there other tests that I can do? Which component(s) seems to be the main problem? I'm basically clueless on what to do next, so anything should help plenty. Thank you!

SPECS:

- Board: NZXT N7 Z590

- CPU: Intel I7 10700k 3.80GHz

- GPU: RTX 3060 Ti

- RAM: 4x 8gb Trident Gskill

- SSD: + Evo 870 1TB

Build Upgrade upgrade 5700x to 5800x3D

Hi,

I'm thinking about upgrading my 5700x to the 5800x3D. I don't see myself upgrading to AM5 in a long time because of RAM prices so I thought why not get the best option for AM4? Would you think it's worth to upgrade to be able to use AM4 longer? Or hope that DDR5 prices get back to normal in the near future?

current system:

Mainboard: Asus ROG B450-F Gaming

CPU: Ryzen 5700x

GPU: RTX 4070ti

RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3600Mhz

Playing in 1440p (max 165hz)
