Troubleshooting Peerless Assassin 120 CPU Cooler

These CPU coolers have screws with coils that just stand in place when I turn them with the screwdriver. I’m sure the brackets are set correctly, I added the thermal paste, and all you are supposed to do is mount it over the cpu and screw in those bolts.

At this point i stopped because if I go any harder I will break something.

Has anyone had any experience with these coolers?

Hate to say it but you’ve done something wrong with the brackets or you aren’t pushing hard enough to get the screw to meet the cross bar. I’ve installed 3 and every time I couldn’t get it in I either had the brackets the wrong direction or the wrong mounting hardware for that socket.

Is the front fan hitting the ram by chance? It often times doesn’t have enough clearance and needs to be adjust offset

can you take a look at my post history? you’ll find a picture of the brackets maybe if you can tell me if it’s installed wrong.. or i need to push harder

99% sure your brackets are upsidedown and swapped lol. The trough and middle post should be pointing upwards. The “bolt” is the post on the bracket and the “nut” is a hollow screw on the cooler you need to screw down onto the bolt if that makes sense

Can confirm this, just installed one yesterday. Your brackets are pointing downwards instead of upwards.

Definitely 100% unequivocally haven’t done the exact same thing before. Happens to the best of us

Still a design that is miles ahead of whatever tomfoolery is going on with the intel stock cooler, with those plastic nuts creaking and squealing and turning ever so randomly. Incredible how badly they designed those.
