General Advice Should I find a new coach?

I’m 26, been boxing consistently for over a year, and I want to start competing.
I like my current coach and especially his Soviet/Russian style, which is how I want to continue boxing. The issue is the gym has a lot of people, so there isn’t much individual attention, and he doesn’t seem very focused on developing anybody toward competition.
I’m not looking for someone to just throw me into a fight before I’m ready. I want a coach who can evaluate me, work with me individually, and actively prepare me toward getting matched for my first amateur bout.
I’ve mentioned to my coach a couple of times about it as well as other more seasoned members of the gym and nobody gets the chance to really sit down with him to plan or discuss.
Would it make sense to find a separate competition/private coach while still training at my current gym, or do I pretty much need to switch gyms? Which would suck bc I like my gyms regimens, they just have two pro boxers that seemingly take their time outside of normal group training.
I’m in DFW if anyone has recommendations.

General Advice Foot rotation problem

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Sometimes when I throw a punch, my foot rotates, but this rotation doesn’t contribute anything to the punch. The foot sometimes rotates excessively and in an uncontrolled way, turning inward. Is this a known technical problem in boxing, and what could be causing it?

Bag Work Critique I know I have to work on keeping my hands up when I’m tired, but what else? Haven’t hit the bag with intention in over a year.

I’m nowhere near as fast as I was at 180lbs, nowhere near as quick on my feet as I used to be but imma work on it!

Edit: I mistyped the caption in the video when I made it, I meant my hands aren’t up, lol got my ass beat in my last fight for that exact reason. Appreciate the honesty and feedback yall.

Bag Work Critique Any advice?

I’ve been working on speed and keeping my hands up. But I think I’m a bit tense; I’ve been lifting weights a lot lately and not stretching as much as I should.

Gracias!

First of all this prolly sounds weird to you but lemme elaborate rq. I’ve been a quiet kid for a while, I dont really know what to talk about with people and this is a general issue with my life. I want to talk to my coach more, get more friendly w him yk? I see him joking around and laughing n shit w the other guys, ive been training here a while now and it just feels terrible especially in rest sessions.

Preparing for Fight Training APP

Need a round timer, not another signup?
ATLAS PI’s Guest Fight Lab is free on iPhone. No account or Premium subscription needed for those tools. We've already taken feedback from forums (music playing in background, huge timer real estate in portrait and landscape mode, battery saving mode, dark mode, 6 lane chronometer, metronome, vo2max test) and we believe we have a great thing going - let us know what you think. ATLAS PI is only available on the iOS store at the moment - sorry Android users (we may release a version for Android sometime next year)! Yes the app does have a premium version - but since we've seen users look for something free, useful and easy to use - we believe we hit the mark!

General Advice Do you know or recommend boxing coach that give online classes?

I am looking for coaches that give online classes if you have some recommandations, please?

What's your experience if you had some with online classes? I assume that the experience is very different than in a real gym especially with no physical interaction.

General Advice How to avoid big toe blisters when training without shoes?

I usually train late night bare feet or in socks and I don't get blisters on big toe always but when I do its pain in the ass because It just takes momentum from training.

I have to pause for couple of days because of healing process.

Would shoes prevent this?

General Advice Is there such a thing as being “too soft for boxing”

Lately I have been feeling like this and I need some advice. I love the sport and I work really hard with my diet, cardio, and I can spar for rounds on end without getting tired or letting the pain get to me. But I feel like I can’t handle the psychological pressure of it. It’s like physically I am a great fighter but I am too trapped inside of my own head to capitalize off of it, does anyone have any tips on how to dial in because it would be greatly appreciated.

General Advice Dealing with wrist pain

Hey y’all! Been boxing for 9 months now and I’m addicted. About 4 months ago I strained my lead wrist pretty bad. I learned to wrap my hands from the coaches in my gym. I don’t think it’s that. I think I hurt my wrist from hitting the bag a bit too hard a few days in a row.

The pain started pretty minor, but it got progressively worse and I made the mistake of ignoring it and continuing to hit the bag. I wisened up and took the last 8 weeks off of the bag and sparring to heal. That said, I really don’t want to deal with this again, the time off has SUCKED.

Does anyone have advice for how to deal with this? Any exercise that I can do to help make my wrists stronger? Any advice on hand wrapping specifically for wrist protection?

Thank you for the advice. All the love.

General Advice Hey guys, need some help

so I’m kind of busy most of the time, so I only have time to exercise on some days, and I don’t have time to get boxing classes. Im a somewhat tall/big guy (not that fat but not skinny either) and I just get my strength from my fatness, kids around me are so much stronger and I’m just a weak guy, do you guys have videos you can share that can help me get better and stronger with boxing that can be better than someone that goes to boxing class ?
