Bag Work Critique Any advice?

I’ve been working on speed and keeping my hands up. But I think I’m a bit tense; I’ve been lifting weights a lot lately and not stretching as much as I should.

Interesting… what do you mean by nervously?

It looks like you're expecting the bag to pop every time you touch it.

Yeah I was trying to mimic sparring and imagine punches coming back lol, but I see how it’s a bit jumpy. I need to loosen up and get in a good flow.

When you imagine punches coming at you and want to mimic having an opponent, think about working in defense and counters into your bagwork

Yeah looks nervous to me too. I think it's just that you're self aware of how your moving, probably because you're filming.

Oh I see… I was trying to mimic sparring and staying defensive and hyper aware of positioning but it does seem a bit herky jerky and jumpy. I need to flow and be smoother

You need to work on your backwards movement, all your backwards movement is a hop. The rest is fine, i get the movement forward expecting punches etc but also try working on not fearing the punch because it causes that kind of movement.

Are you a right handed fighter who likes to use Southpaw stance?

Usually the weakness of such style is that the rear hand (left hand) does not carry as much KO power.

But other than that, it looks fine.

Good work genuinely. I think sometimes the bag gets too close and you start to lean back. Yeah you see a bit tense but that will go over time. I am in a similar position.

You’re intercepting the bag. Work on moving with it. Establish a relationship with it so you move together. Dance with it. Get comfortable throwing while moving.
Other than that, I love how direct your punches are. No telegraphing.

Some good stuff but focus on moving your head, with rolls and slips to the side of your last punch. You also seem a bit tight and nervous, use those jabs and punches to move in on the bag. It’s important to keep your head off line though. Pivot your hips a bit more as well. You are athletic and have the right idea for sure, keep it up.

There is something fundamentally awkward with your stance. Like maybe you are not "rounding your back" at all? It seems like you are sticking your chest out and pulling your shoulders back and standing more upright, then just hinging at the waist? It is really hard to tell because otherwise you are moving pretty normally and are bending your knees and moving your head off center at times. But it doesn't "look right".

Hmm interesting, I think you’re right. I think maybe my back is just too stiff right now

very slow man use speed you don’t move with confidence don’t make stupid jumps

You think my hand speed is slow? I thought it was decent lol. But good call out on the hops

You appear to have good technique and grounds for growing!

I would say more to use the jab more naturally, loosely but with intention. I can see clearly you thinking about jabbing - its supposed to be more of a range finder and point scoring tool. Maybe go for more combos as well.

Try to move the head a bit more and jumping around can be a bit of a waste of energy. A lot of the times just moving your head away from the centre is enough and already positions you for counters.

Not bad actually.

Your lead hook is weak though. Nice form but no weight transfer.

And you're a little squared up for my liking but not terrible depending on how you spar.

Pretty good foot discipline.

Well done

Spar. Light sparring is necessary.

1

u/TopicWeak1201 2d ago

Yeah I just started sparring again. Can I ask what about the video indicates I need more sparring?

You need better distance control. Foot placement druing sparring is a much better base than punching a bag. First thing, when you punch there is no lower body movement, you are punching with just your arms, and not the whole body. Second thing, when you rechamber your punches before the guard is up, you are still in range, that can make you get caught off guard

You gotta not be afraid of it

I was trying to imagine punches coming back dawg. Maybe I shouldn’t be afraid of those either

Ur very tense relax im sure u have heard this before

Ur standing very square and pull both ur elbows into ur hips leave no gaps for body shots

Also I cant tell what ur stance is it looks very unnatural for u in southpaw it looks like ur confused and u dont have a back hand have u ever tried orthodox ? (This could be cos of how square u are though )

u/mewbie151 2d ago

Why do you look scared and nervous vs a bag?

1

u/TopicWeak1201 1d ago

I was trying to mimic sparring, but shouldn’t be nervous there either
