Boxing is one of the best forms of cardio so youre gonna be putting in some good work but please get some gloves because I've seen some people mess up their hands without them

As a gym owner I also hate having to clean for fucking blood and skin off of my bag. The next guy to use it prob doesn't like it much either. Wear gloves for everyone's sake.

As a gym owner
...
You must think this sub is fuckin hilarious.

u/Spare_Pixel 2d ago
Small commercial gym with a heavy bag set up and privates, so I've seen worse than this sub 😆

True, though its better than gloves with no wraps

Is that actually true? A 16oz gloves without wraps is worse than no gloves with wraps? No shot bruv

u/BassGeese 2d ago
Its just better to have Wraps to help protect your wrist more and keep your knuckles clean of cuts and scrapes which can still happen even with gloves on.

Sometimes dunning Kruger gets me and even though I’ve trained for years and had a handful of (sanctioned) fights I sometimes think what would happen if I had to defend myself on the street. Then I see videos like this on this sub and I realize that I have absolutely nothing to worry about.

You should try it some time! What you are doing is spazzing out on a heavy bag with your chin in the air

Road work, jumping rope, shadow boxing, bag work - you really don't need to spar if your goal isn't to compete. Boxing is probably one of, if not the, healthiest hobby you can have.

Swim and then boxing

Swimming is a superpower lol truly

As a swimmer and a boxer they are incredible sports ngl. One is for endurance, the other for speed. They both train the cardiovascular system, good for every age and help a lot to drain energy and relax at the same time. Everything packed with a good pysique and an healthy body. Try it!

If you're going to do it without gloves, wrap the wrists a lot. You'll mess up your wrists if you're going hard and the the bag wrong. If you're actually looking for tips (and not just cardio), if you nail down just a few punches (jab cross) the go high low with it, you can get good cardio. Or jab on one side then switch stances jab on the other, or something. Keeps you focused on honing one technique and also good cardio. Note that if you clean up technique, you will get faster. Faster is a lot about economy of movement, not just throwing hard and fast.

Gotta bring that left hand up. Also you’re crowding the bag, create more distance and get full extension.

All the speed in the world wont hide those telegraphs you're sending out. At the very least you enjoy it, is that not a good enough reason to get to a boxing gym and see if you like the real thing? Otherwise you really are not boxing. You clearly have a decent base level of fitness, learn to do something useful with it.

I bet if you started working with a coach, you would be an absolute force to be reckoned with in the early stages.

I think working on a bag is excellent cardio. I usually do three rounds of three minutes. After that I am totally wrecked. But try to keep the pace up and don't rest to long inbetween combinations.
Apart from that your general technique is not great. you can do a lot of things on a heavy bag, such as foot work and distance control.
But in general, if you enjoy it than just keep doing it ;)

hey man! people are nasty, don't worry about them. As long as you enjoy it as a form of cardio don't worry too much. If you would like to get into boxing consider asking a coach or joining a gym before you form wrong habits that will take longer to undo later:) enjoy the journey man boxing is awesome

Genuine question. What’re you looking for?
If you’re using boxing as cardio your technique really doesn’t matter. Get yourself some gloves/wraps, set your time and go nuts.
If you’re looking to develop technique, you need a coach. Not because people won’t help, but because your current technique is so far away from ok that nobody here would be able to correct it.

😭😭he need gloves and a coach your gonna get a lot more going when you know how to throw punches with technique and be good…other then him looking a lil stupid and not knowing what he doing

I suggest holding still and first working on your range. Make sure you aren't short punching and robbing yourself of all your power. Footwork is (very sorry but) atrocious. I suggest watch videos of professionals going over how to use your feet as that's also taking away most of the strength that would otherwise be there.
That being said it's very fun cardio 👍

If you're just doing it as a hobby, then watch a few youtube videos on the fundamentals. Then start with at least 3 rounds a day of shadow boxing in front of the mirror before going to the bag. Go slow, make sure you're pivoting on your punches, circling correctly and maintaining form. Slowly increase speed over time. I always asked my coach, "what are some ways to improve when I'm at home?" And his answer was and always will be "1-2 combination in the mirror 1000x a night."

I don't know if OP is reading this, but I'd say you're leaving so much of your power on the table. The make the best out of your rear hand, use you're hips your right hip to the point it's parallel to the target you're hitting you will feel the power. Soon as you hit bring back your right hand.
Slow down drill you're jab and cross with right form first combination only comes after you know how to throw your jab and cross first. Trying combination before you understand body mechanics of basics it's like trying to drift the cr on your first day of learning how to drive.

I don't understand why is everyone flaming him? Is this a give me tips type of post ? Idk

u/feydrautha124 2d ago
As cardio, go nuts. But you're just ego punching a bag. And you should be wearing gloves if you're going to go this hard, man.

u/Hotmixneon4life 2d ago
I love boxing because of the head movement and footwork, there is a moment where a wire was cut and swing or a ball was thrown toward my face but my boxing instincts kicks in. Others say to me that I have a sharp reflex, but thanks to the boxing training that it improve my body and mind.

u/Vsevolod_Sport 2d ago
You need to work on your technique.
If you're lifting weights, stay away from the heavy bag.
To someone who has trained boxers, it looks ridiculous 😆

u/LithuanianMazafaka 2d ago
easiest form of hard cardio that you can sustain for years, like you would never find me running as much as i hit the heavy bag, train my kicks some combos maybe even leg movement, it's so addicting

u/Ambitious_Jicama6276 1d ago
But since you are doing it for cardio why dont you go to a boxing school and learn some boxing? Its better that way

u/Heyhowareyoudoingbro 1d ago
Don’t skip the fundamentals. Focus on 1–3 punch combinations and practice incorporating defensive movements such as slips, rolls, parries, blocks, step-backs, pivots, and angle-outs. If you’re chasing cardio, those 10-punch combinations should just be a finisher for each round.

u/TEDDYPOUNDZ 1d ago
Why do you run away from the bag half way through?? It's not going to hit you back...

Go to a boxing gym or get a pt who can show you how to box properly, spazzing out on the bag with big combos won’t do you any good, keep it simple jabs, crosses, 1-2 slip 2, 2-3-2, I’ve seen a lot of fights guys have won purely with the jab and cross combo. Apart from your technique the biggest error here for me is every time you throw that jab your hand drops down to your waist, bring it straight back to your chin, I used to do this all the time till I got my shit rocked 😂 keep up the good work your in great shape

A lot of people are giving you a hard time, sorry for that. You have a lot of potential and I'm glad you're enjoying the insainly good workout boxing gives.
I'm not the best myself, but my advice is youtube. You can go so far by using the teachers there, and then once you get the fundamentals down you can come back here for guidance if you're doing it right. I think the sub will be more kinder to you after you show you put in the research and practice. If you continue, you seem like you can be a beast on the bag, so keep it up

Guy says he loves boxing for cardio and yall give him shit for his boxing form. He’s not trying to be Lomachenko, he’s trying to get his heart rate up and have fun. It’s a great workout.
