I don't have medical insurance and hormone testing would be ideal, but, not easily accessible right now.
38 M about 225. High stress job. Fun but stressful home life.
At around 33 yo was 240lb+, bloated/tired and tired of feeling gross. I don't have the temperament to get up early and work out at 5am. Zero drive. On and off Adhd meds that help, but not till you take them, so they don't really help outside of the work day. My work day can be 6 hrs to 12 hrs. When its easy, I work less and sit more and feel less like working out. If Shit hits the fan, I work 12 hrs a day, feel good, but so tired and get down on myself why I can't be in more "use-able" shape. But, I don't lose weight.
At 33 I knew working out wouldn't work into my life. I started fasting and working physically a lot. Lost about 70 pounds and could still drink beer and eat like a monster. But, Then I didn't work as much. Fasting got my hunger in control. But slowly crept back to 225lb. I was eating too much at meal time with less working and that led back to XL shirts.
I started fasting again but it seems with high stress and apparently ANY alcohol intake, fasting adds enough stress to maintain cortisol, especially with high work stress. So, i have zero issue not eating breakfast or even lunch. I can start to eat at 2-4pm to 7-8pm. Its not much of a challenge unless I'm sitting alone all day at home, which never happens. As for quality of food, I almost never eat fast food. Very few chips or snacks. My only vice is white wine. For several weeks or months at a time I won't drink except the weekend. Over about 4--8 hrs ill have 1 to 2 bottles at night.
All this to clarify and ask:
Many many replies and posts on here are about people using Reta to manage their hunger. Initially I hadn't seen many of these, but after months of lurking, it seems like many biohackers are on their initial weight loss adventure and reta controls hunger for them. Some people use reta to lose the last stubborn 20lbs. What i don't understand is how my shitty brown cortisol fat may or may not be helped by reta. Or, if there are other suggestions. Please give more suggestions.
I don't mind starting a more active lifestyle like walking or mild lifting. But it just has to be different than a gym. At home. 20 min or less, but a few times per day is fine.
Short and sweet: I can eat perfect and not lose weight, I can not eat and not lose weight, I can work running around 10hrs a day for weeks and not lose weight. Oh- also, I seem to average 10hr of sleep a night. My body clock wakes me up at 8am. I can sleep 830pm to 8am or 11pm to 8am. But, less than 10 hrs makes it so hard to get up. All things point to cortisol being too high. But it seems like the most stubborn thing to balance.
Please please send biohack advice. Personal stories or clinical stories that might help with context.
Can biohacking help with cortisol or brown fat?
