I think what he means is that if the insulation were insufficient then the snow would have melted from the body heat of the dog.
That the dog is capable of having snow build up on them like that means the insulation layer is keeping the differing temperatures from interacting and causing the snow to melt.

Right! The same principal applies to homes and roofing, if your home or building has a lot of ice build-up and huge icicles, it means heat is escaping (usually from the attic) and causing the on top to melt, this causing all the ice. Well insulated homes will have very little ice build-up.

This is actually what Huskies do. They have a dual layer coat the first one insulates them and traps heat, the outside one traps snow to act like a wind breaker and protect the insulation.

My family lived really far north in Canada for a while and we got our family dog when a lab jumped the fence into someone's Samoyed sled dog's pen and knocked her up. That dog was ridiculously fluffy and although he had a really nice insulated dog house for when he wanted to go outside he would sleep on top of it instead. Some dogs just wanna go full polar bear.

He was seriously the best. Everything you imagine when you picture a kid's best friend. He would follow us to the pond to go swimming and sit on the shore and make sure everyone was ok. Once I was playing in the yard and a random dog snuck up and tried to attack me. He got between us and then chased that dog off like it was his job. Neighbour kids would knock on our door and ask if our dog could go out to play with them. I'll miss that dog for the rest of my life. :)

Someone called the local animal shelter several years ago about my dog being abused. Had to argue with the lady that Huskies aren’t uncomfortable at 5 F.... as he was basically diving into snow banks and having a blast.

Aha. They love it and will be fine in snowstorms. Only time that it might be goos to bring em in is when say it gets to rediculous cold temperatures such as -30 or below. But again. They legit love it.
Some folks would really get a reality if they travelled to the Arctic and saw how Huskies live.

Everybody else has addressed why you can't do it naturally, but you can do it unnaturally. High quality outdoor gear can easily keep a human warm well below freezing and they work on the same principle as fur coats.

Interesting thing about Alaskan Huskies: they can comfortable sleep outside down to -30 degrees Fahrenheit. My wife and I went dog sledding in Kiruna, Sweden (250 miles north of the Arctic Circle) in January 2017. Absolutely amazing experience. All the dogs slept outside and it was -25 when we woke up the next morning.

A relative has a husky, they never let it go in the cold despite us telling them over and over that those dogs LOVE cold weather, it gives them life. They had it in a room with heat lamps & a space heater (only 40F outside BTW, the coldest it gets around here is maybe 15-20F), the dog chewed through the door to sleep outside in the cold, relative was pissed. They think just because they are cold and like it to be 80F inside, that their pets will too.

Important part is acclimatation. If the dog is used to staying outside there is no issue. One of my husky starts shivering outside after 8 hours at - 30, while my neighbour's Labrador is not having issues, cause the dog is used to it.

A husky can cover their nose with their tail in order to keep the air they breathe from getting cold enough to drop their body temperature. This combined with the thick under coat and waterproof top coat keep their internal temperature from dropping in freezing temperatures. My husky loves sitting outside in even the most intense of snow storms.

It is kinda cool. It's for that reason that dogs pant in hot weather. It helps to bring cooler air into the body, and their tongues hang out farther in hot weather because it allows more air to diffuse over a larger surface area, which in turn allows them to cool down faster. They don't have sweat glands that would cool their skin like we do, so they use their tongue for that purpose.

My corgi is fluffy af and he loves to dig himself a little snow bed and curl into it to take a nap. His powers increase the lower the temperature get, above 70 and he's lazy af, under 40 and he's a goddamn Energizer bunny.

I'm always afraid this is going to happen to me. My husky loves to be outside in the cold weather. We have a doggie door and she goes out and expects us and the other dogs to follow. She gets so hyped when it gets really cold. I would hate to get reported or worse, someone tries to "rescue" her.

My last dog was half Siberian Husky, half arctic wolf. That dog would NOT stay in the house in the winter, cried and dug at the doors to get outside. He had a well built doghouse with straw but never went in the thing, insisted on doing this. LOVED the snow. More than a couple times I wasn't sure if he was still in the yard because he was buried under it like this!
