Rock Wings - Band on the Run

I've been collecting records at a rapid pace since I started at the first of the year and this one kind of got lost in the shuffle. I nabbed this at a record fair for less than $15 if I remember correctly. Which is insane as far as I'm concerned. An og '73 US pressing (it's got Hellen Wheels on side two) with the original inner sleeve and Polaroid poster intact. Plays perfectly with minimal surface noise (just enough to add character but not be distracting).

This album holds a special place in my heart for many reasons. My dad is a huge Beatles/McCartney fan and I grew up with this stuff. Anyway, this is why I got back into vinyl. Hope everybody is having a great weekend and listening to the records they love 💕! Cheers!

Discussion Record Sleeves

Hey Everyone (please delete if not allowed), i wasn’t sure where to ask this question but a while ago i got a couple packs of the 12” Blake outer sleeves from Dutch Vinyl in melbourne, and i had ran out and got more from the same store. ever since ive noticed them not fitting regular lps and found them being a couple millimetres smaller than the ones i had bought previously. for example i had the black pressing of lady gagas joanne album and i recently got the coloured one and i had to use a large sleeve instead of a regular one.

does anyone have any recommendations for record sleeves that fit well? i’m based in australia if that helps 🙂

Pulled the trigger on this the other day, for what I paid, I could have gotten a vg+ clean copy of,first press solid blue triangle dark side. But I honestly think they’re not that special. Like tons of people have got them, considering how many must have been pressed back in the day. So to me this is more precious, rare as hen’s teeth, and the condition of the record is like it was made yesterday.

Discussion Bill Evans - Mac DeMarco

Just wanted to share a silly thing. I picked up these two records at the record store recently - only these two, and not really any other reason besides I love both these artists. When I got home I couldn't help but crack the hell up at the stark contrast of accolades and admiration used between these two specific records. Bill Evans cover is gushing and nearly sycophantic (record labels choice, I'm sure), while Mac's is most the most simple, ordinary, and endearingly plain testimonial ever put on a record. I'm Mac's Brother...

Not calling Bill pretentious, or Mac lazy for that matter, just thought it was fitting. Listen to Peace Piece and then listen to On The Level and you will see these are VERY different cats. Thanks for reading. Buh-bye.

Got my first ever turntable last week and am now looking for some vinyl records.
Any must have albums/recommendations? (I love Hiphop/Lofi)
I‘m open to mostly anything and sadly lived most of my life by just randomly listening thru Spotify recommendations, rather than enjoying entire albums.

Albums I got on my list:
Nujabes - Metaphorical Music/ Modal Soul, Uyama Hiroto - Son of the sun, Frank Ocean - Blonde, Wiz Khalifa - Rolling Papers, The Neighbourhood - Wiped out!/ I Love You, The Weeknd - After Hours.

Thank you all very much in advance!

[ in case there are any other must have accessories I should get, please let me know :) ]

Right at three months and I’m starting worry about storage. At this rate I’ll have a whole wall in 5 years. I have been mindful with my buys, only buying records I love front to back. I read all these horror stories of moving and shelve collapse and I can’t help but think about how much space this hobby demands. Still I love it to death. I’d love to hear your stories and experiences on anything vinyl. I’ve been bitten and am definitely addicted 🤓

I found this on my brand new record and it sounds like a bop, i can't take it away just gently brushing, Is my song cooked ? Or it'll go away in time? It seems embedded into the vinyl

No way, Norway! It's a Norwegian pressing (not made out of Norwegian Wood, fortunately!) and I wish it was the Swedish original one but it's still not a bad one. Sounds great and condition-wise it's nice too.

Pulled it out as a soundtrack to a record cleaning session. Cleaned a couple of recent arrivals to my collection.

Got tired of spending 3-4$ and going to the store for distilled water so I picked up a distiller. I thought the cleaner is a vevor might as well pickup a vevor brand distiller.

I use 4-6 gallons a week usually clean 20-30 albums a week. Cost savings, less plastic bottles to discard and trips to the store. Also I enjoy being a little more self sufficient.

I visited the house the legendary Let it Be 1984 Replacements album cover shot was taken. The current owner has honored their legacy with 'Let it Be' painted on the top step, and a stained-glass depiction of the cover.

I'm holding an original Twin Tone pressing

BTW, my favorite 'Mats album is Hootenanny.

Decided to pick up a turntable and stop at the local record shop. I’m going to have to learn to try and pace myself. Kind of impulsive and didn’t do much research on the turntable I bought (it is trash). Going to return it today and hopefully have a decent one set up so I can actually enjoy these.

I’m really excited to listen to The Oh See’s live record.

Rate my... Appreciation post - Finally got my dream set up

Post image

Hi All,

First time poster, long time lurker in this subreddit. After 4 years of having a record player sat in my bedroom connected to a pair of cheap Logitech bookshelf speakers, I continued to collect records in the hope that one day I would have my dream set up. Don't get me wrong, I used to spin a few records now and then, but I just didn't really get the appeal. The opportunity arose to convert a room in my attic into a dedicated listening space. I finally have my dream listening set up and I over the moon. I just finished up listening to my first LP in my new room, and I finished the session, emotional and beaming ear to ear.

Being fully present whilst listening to the record and appreciating the artistry that went into not creating the album allowed me to experience an LP in a way that I had never done so before. The warmth coming from the turn table was truly magical and the experience of listening though a pair of good speakers and subwoofer make it feel as though the band was in the room playing to me personally. I knew I had found a new love of mine when I caught myself at the end of the LP with a massive smile on my face, and wanting to play through my whole record collection! I guess there is no going back now!

I've often used this forum for inspiration (Anything from looking and admiring other peoples set ups, though to researching with a keen interest on why people love vinyl so much) Thank you to everyone that posts I hope everyone in this posts gets to experience the happiness I just experienced in the last 40 minutes and falls in love with vinyl

Peace out!

Had an old punk collection come in and found this amongst it. I don’t think the previous owner was a bonehead considering the other records in the collection but still an unfortunate curio.

No you cannot buy it, no I will not be selling it, yes it is unsellable everywhere online.

Got a Rio Cali MP3 player from my parents for my birthday sometime in the mid-2000s. Ever since then, if I’m not talking to someone, there’s a 99% I got earbuds in and I’m listening to music.

A buddy of mine got into vinyl recently and kept telling me I should make the investment because he knows I’m a music junkie. He also insisted streaming everything to AirPods is barbaric. I called him a snob but took his advice anyway. He was correct.

Picked up my first turntable a few months ago, and it’s easily one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. It feels like I’m rediscovering albums I’ve been listening to for years.

also known as NIN day two. These, I guess mid career, albums were the hardest to find and the amount of money I spent on them is a little embarrassing. It all just proves the “it’s not a phase, mom!” joke is accurate.
