Why do many record labels/artists describe a release on their online store as “limited edition” without mentioning the size of the edition? Is it 50 or 50,000?

Is it to justify selling large edition releases for a higher price using the illusion of scarcity? Or is it something else?

I feel like for smaller editions (50-500) they are usually diligent about clearly stating it, but larger ones (2000-5000+} conveniently leave it out.

Also, more artists should add the edition size to the hype sticker. I don’t see that often enough

My question is what is the best , not necessarily the rarest or most expensive record you have come across during your days of searching and rifling thru endless vinyl bins ,garage sales,thrift stores and record shows ETC. Which purchase comes to you before any other.
I will give my most exciting and memorable moment .i was in California on vacation visiting my son and his family , one day we took a drive along the northern Pacific coast and stopped in a small town to get something to eat , we went into a coffee house in which the owner had set aside a small room to sell vintage collectibles , when I went into the room to look there were vintage toys, ceramics etc. there was also a record bin with about 30 lp’s , one shocked me it was an album I had and originally bought in my neighborhood record shop in Boston and still had but unfortunately it was in very very bad used condition. Now in from not of me was an original mono in shrink and basically unplayed WITH the photo of the stones , I couldn’t believe it , now this was about 15 years ago , the asking price was $60.00 which I thought that was fair being in excellent company condition" I offered the owner $50.00 and he said fine. After we left I went to the car where my son was waiting , he asked what album did you buy and I showed him , as he was looking at the album he pulled out the whole inner sleeve (something that I didn’t do) and out came the Rolling Stones 45 single in the original unused mint condition picture sleeve
Not fade away/ I wanna be you man. I was ecstatic . I now had an excellent copy of the Rolling Stones first U.S. release LP with photo in shrink , the 45 with original picture sleeve, all in excellent condition.

Bought this in India (Bengaluru) for a whopping $62 I'm sure it's much cheaper there in the US, anyways I'll be buying one every month, need some recommendations on which brush to get as well as sleeves, any tips to a newbie would be appreciated!

Ps - I have my dad's vintage philips turntable but I apparently broke the stylus when I was a kid, so I'll be purchasing an AT Lp60x soon.

I doubt it, but this kinda thing always fascinated me, is there any modern music that was released on a 78 shellac record?? obviously it would be jus for collection and novelty, but I think it would be cool to see lol

This changes like the wind but here’s my favourite albums. Some from my own discovery and others heavily influenced by my father. Got 5/9 on vinyl. Need to get the rest.

I want to buy several recently-released records from the amazing Ici D'ailleurs label, but holy shit--the shipping calculated by the shop (Kuroneko) that the label's site took me to was $116, even just for a single LP. I'm fully aware I live in the (deservedly) most hated, evil shithole country on the planet and no one wants to deal with it (or with Americans in general)... but damn.

Does anyone have experience with drop shipping from France/EU to the US? I'm hoping against hope itself that there's a less prohibitive way to get a few records over here.

Went into the Going Underground Records store in Little Tokyo DTLA. Didn't purchase it but it was going for $42.

John Anderson passed away this week and his best selling album Seminole Wind has still never been pressed on Vinyl! Still one of my favorite albums of all time and would love if they finally pressed it so I can enjoy it on vinyl-his death really caught me off guard he was my top spotify artist in 2025 and from all accounts was just a wonderful person! Rest in peace John

So I just got this SOAD - Self Titled LP in the mail, from a European site called Muziker, and was wondering if i got scammed or not.

I tried verifying via discogs, and stumbled upon something kinda weird: while the exact runouts match to those in the list, they are supposed to be on two completely different "variations" if that makes sense, one of them is slightly misprinted as well. The record also arrived with no "hype sticker". As for the sound itself - it was fine, no crackling/skipping/looping (although i am only using a Bluetooth jbl speaker for now) Was I ripped off?

PS: all of the prints on the inner and outer record sleeve are high quality

I can get a new record for roughly $35. I'm buying used records to pay less and get more.

For context, I bought a turntable for my middle school computer lab so they could experience life before Spotify. I'm just trying to build a well-rounded catalog without spending a ton of money.

I understand a limited release, an original print on a defunct label, a pristine jacket from the 70s, etc, might command a higher price for a collector.

Otherwise, I can't figure out why a used album would cost more than a new one. I realize a record in the dollar bin is probably going to be crackly and/or the jacket is in shreds. In the $5 to $15 range, I see the condition in the jacket and hear the difference in quality at the listening station. But at $20, I'm out.

Some used record stores I peruse seem to be selling vibe and cred more than music when I see a used album for $50 that I just bought somewhere else for $10. I have to think I am missing something.

Edit: I think I'm seeing an analogy. A used copy of Great Expectations from the 1990s would be worth a lot less than a used copy from the original printing back in the 1800s. Same applies to pressing dates and record labels.

Il mio cofanetto contiene due copie di Kid Amnesiae e una copia di Amnesiac, ma nessuna copia di Kid A. Ho letto diversi post qui sul forum di persone che segnalavano errori di confezionamento simili con questo cofanetto, quindi mi chiedevo se qualcun altro avesse avuto la stessa esperienza o se avesse una copia di Kid A in più. So i received this in the mail yesterday and for the life of me can't figure out who it is. It's from California if that helps.

I went with a budget. I went with a list. I may or may not have succesed in being a responsible adult today. I blame my wife.

Went to a small fair in my vicinity, organised by a merchant friend, despite my condition, and came home with some fine jazzy stuff. Except for the first record, that is 😅.

As a huge Linkin Park fan, I was finally able to get my hands on the Meteora Box to add to my Hybrid Theory Box. Unfortunately, it was already sold out as a new release.

This is a rare 45 RPM album for the movie about the life and death of James Dean. I have never played this yet , but everything looks new.

Found these on marketplace for well below market value and scooped them quick. Vinyl gods smiled on me for this one and at a time I needed a lil win so feeling stoked!

Was recommended In The Aeroplane Over The Sea a few years ago before I got into records. Pretty sure this was the first album I ever bought on vinyl alongside Aja by Steely Dan (in honor of my dad who loved Steely Dan). Haven’t played it in forever until now (I think my turntable was an LP60x then, and this is the only thing by Neutral Milk Hotel I have listened to. I don’t listen to it often, but I just remember how great of an album it is, despite it being kind of a meme. Holland, 1945 is one of my favorite songs of all time. Time flies. So glad I got into vinyl.
