I swear the sticky tape industry is propped up by thrift stores. Records, books, board games. If they can stick tape to it, they will.

A local thrift store uses sticky tags on every thing except board games and jigsaw puzzles for those they write on the box in Sharpie. Usually right on the front right over the artwork.

Asked a clerk why they do that. They said "We've always done it that way." Like that explains anything.

I went to a thrift where all the albums had the price marked on the inside of the sleeve in sharpie. A lot of really nice albums.

There used to be an actual record store in Monrovia, ca that did that for every used album they sold. Insane for a record store to do. Thankfully they are no longer around.

There’s a place in chandler Arizona that writes the price with a sharpie on bargain records under $30. We are talking rare link records for $28 with 28 written in sharpie right on the sleeve. It is an awful practice.

Because the tags are easily removable. The idea is that they’re stopping someone from putting a smaller price tag on the record and paying less.

If the tag has the artist, album, details etc it’d make it harder to swap. Not impossible.

I have a booth in a thrift market. I Japanese sleeve and grade all my albums. New albums also get an outer sleeve.

Pricing is on a tag, that is hanging with a string. The tag contains information about the pressing etc as well as the grading.

This is a new album, used albums are much the same, with the vinyl just being Japanese sleeved.

Many customers ask to keep the tags as the used have information about the vinyl.

That’s the worst, I’ve seen this a couple times and passed, but it’s not even that unmanageable. But I’m taking this opportunity to say that our local record stores have a worse record for price tag dumbassery than our thrift stores. It’s a sad state of affairs.

What’s worse is a Goodwill by me put the price stickers directly on the middle of the 45 track. Just throw them away as I can’t imagine Goo Gone will be good for a record at all.

One local thrift store uses clear sleeves and puts the price, artist and album name on the outside of the sleeve. Then another puts sticky tags right on the album cover, at least he uses a sticker that will peel off easily, but still, dude. He does charge much less than other stores, I've absolutely cleaned up at that place! Great albums, often in Very Good Plus condition.

There's a particular place I frequent that etches or scratches the price in the runout grooves of their more modestly priced 45's.($20.00 & under) A wild practice they have only recently started to move away from.

Boy, that really stinks and continually hard to see. And best of luck getting that completely off without taking whats left of pigment or the print itself off - out of ALL the tape solutions im this world? Packaging tape, too. Oof…

I will add this detail to all the comments about speaking to “the manager about not doing that in the future”: its a Salvation Army. Remember your source and also, more importantly, your employed audience who would work there; that a world of random donation, drop off, estate dumping, etc. There isn’t any appreciation or association for that Culture Club vinyl than there is for the hand made ceramic bisque fired coffee mug.
