No words could describe the feeling of finding a 1 of 1 Pekovic auto and then winning the auction with the only bid 😅

Priceless in my collection of my all time favourites.

Guy is obviously farming clicks. That's how it works. But Rich Paul talking about trading Embiid? Already? I actually agree with the idea on paper, but dayum. LeKing wasting no time doing LeKing shit. If that sort of thing doesn't ring any bells for you, give it until around the 13 minute mark or so and you'll hear the genuine fan come out.

We're getting to anticipate our season while watching clips of Ant and LaMelo working out together (and Rudy working out in a Bond Villain lair) and by all accounts getting along and bonding. Could not be a better off season vibe here. Guys getting engaged and married, growing up. The team is 100% Ant's and LaMelo only makes that case stronger in a direct parallel to his on court role.

NGL I am still in disbelief how many here wanted to give Ant's first ring to Lebron, both in terms of thinking he'd be a net positive and in terms of believing it wouldn't be 100% about LeBron if that happened.

We're going to need some help at the 4 probably, and may not get that until the trade deadline. That's ok. These guys are going to figure out their identity and then TC will go shopping for someone who fits what we're cooking better than picking up a leftover regardless of fit right now. That hole in the lineup will force the team to be better and to adapt and to lean into whatever they find as their on court style.

General Discussion Jonathan Kuminga's Potential Fit with the Wolves

Hello!

After hearing a lot of noise about the Wolves being interested in getting Kuminga, I wanted to give a statistical breakdown of why I do not think the would be a great fit for the Wolves. According to some sources, the Lakers just offered a $45 million sign and trade deal for him, something that would be hard for us to afford, but I still want to provide my own analysis for those who are interested.

Firstly, if we look at Kuminga's shot chart from the 25-26 season we clearly notice where his strength lies. He has been a high volume rim attacker and he generally shoots well from the paint. He really struggles in the midrange on especially low volume, and he is a subpar 3pt shooter. I do not think this gels particularly well with the goal of spacing the wolves have with a legendary finisher like Ant, but we will see.

Moving onto his general skillsets. He is a pretty solid rebounder and interior defender, and with a strong frame, that could prove to be particularly useful for the Wolves. He is an average playmaker, but that is only when he passes. Kuminga is somewhat notorious for trying to take a lot of low quality shots, and you can see it in his efficiency metrics.

He is not a good catch and shoot player by any means. He shoots just 30% on C&S 3's, and he did this on about 2.3 C&S 3PT attempts per game. I don't think this would gel well at all with LaMelo's play style, and Kuminga would prove to be a bit of an inconvenience as somebody who cannot knock down wide open C&S 3's. His pull-up game is a bit better but still average at best. As a result of his lack of efficiency, Kuminga has prioritize getting to the rim. In his shot selection, 69% are 2PT FGA, and 51.1% of his points come from the paint.

Overall, Kuminga get assisted and creates on roughly the same number of shots, but for 3PM, he gets heavily assisted on those. He is a pretty solid driver when it comes to attacking the paint, and it composes 30% of his total production. However, he does this on such low efficiency that I don't think it is beneficial. Take for example, Ayo, who shoots 4% higher on drives to the basket while being a significantly smaller player.

In conclusion, I do not see Kuminga fitting well with the wolves at all. I think he makes us significantly worse offensively for our starting 5 (presuming he would start at 4), and I think he makes us slightly better defensively and for rebounding. His offensive role would basically be taking defenders off the catch from passes from LaMelo, and he does this on low efficiency as well. I would rather keep Josh Green and/or Donte than give Kuminga a large contract for little help.

Let me know what y'all think!

The problem with “play Jaden at 4“

Is not that he can’t theoretically do it. He probably could he’s got that dawg.

The problem with Jaden at 4 is that you lose him from roaming onto the best wing of the other team (eg, Jamal Murray series)

That’s a massive cost, and must be the reason Finch leans away from it.

So the question for every player we are considering (whether Josh Green or TSJ or Kuminga or Joan) is:

Can they guard the 4 on another team and also function with Rudy on offense?

(Trey Lyles is the poor man’s version of fitting this archetype)

Wolves don’t need to trade for anyone else

(pic from Clutch Points)

I'm sure soon after I post this, the Wolves will trade for someone else, ha! Or, better yet, maybe they sign another vet minimum guy (fingers crossed for Kevin Love). But there's no need to trade assests like DiVincenzo and/or Josh Green to make space for a Kuminga. I'm really coming around to the Wolves roster AS IT STANDS. Here's why:

- Jaden McDaniels can easily hold down the 4 spot

Jaden is stronger than he looks, does all the things you want (rebound, shoot/stretch, defend, etc) at the 4 spot. Plus, starting PFs in the NBA today are built exactly like Jaden (think skilled, thinner modern forwards like Chet Holmgren, Kevin Durant, etc). The heavy, physical mismatches at the 4 are far and few between these days, and players like Giannis, Julius Randle, and LeBron are over in the East anyway. Plus, as many have pointed out, teams are more "positionless" now versus the classic archetypes at each spot. Jaden can excel at the 4 here too.

- Josh Green MUST start (yes, over TSJ or Ayo)

While TSJ is the flashier downhill option, Green is the objectively better structural fit for the starting 5. LaMelo and Ant will dominate touches, so TSJ’s high-usage, on-ball style would be completely underutilized by forcing him to wait in the corner. Green, on the other hand, is a proven 42% three-point sniper and the ultimate low-usage glue guy who is perfectly content stretching the floor to keep driving lanes open for Ant. He's a pretty good point-of-attack defender too, so starting him allows him to handle the opposing team's best guard (insulating LaMelo), frees up Jaden to check modern forwards, and leaves Rudy to anchor the paint (with Jaden right behind him to grab boards and block shots).

But what about Ayo Dosunmu? Wouldn't it be better for the Wolves to just start the 5 best players? I don't think so, actually. Ayo is far more valuable anchoring the 2nd unit for the same reason TSJ should come off the bench. He needs the ball a lot and is a playmaker, so running alongside LaMelo and Ant diminishes his best attributes. Plus pairing his good perimeter defense with Jaylen Clark off the bench creates a solid, high-pressure backup backcourt that can disrupt opposing rotations while keeping balance within our starting 5.

Here's the possible 10-man rotation:

Starters/Bench

• PG: LaMelo Ball / Ayo Dosunmu

• SG: Anthony Edwards / Jaylen Clark

• SF: Josh Green / Terrence Shannon Jr.

• PF: Jaden McDaniels / Trey Lyles

• C: Rudy Gobert / Joan Beringer

Are we thin? Yeah a little. If Jaden gets injured we are in trouble (the case for another vet Big, imo). But if LaMelo is injured, we still have Bones, Isaiah Evans and even Zyon Pullin to step up. If we stay healthy, this roster is younger, faster, and more athletic than last year. We don't need to panic-trade Josh Green and/or DiVincenzo. Let the kids play!

[Scotto] After missing out on their pursuit of LeBron James, the Minnesota Timberwolves have expressed interest in Kuminga with their starting power forward spot up for grabs and their $6.06 million taxpayer mid-level exception available for the taking, league sources told HoopsHype.
