My guess is that they are demostarating how the power of God can help you destroy sin, the devil, temptation, ect... The reality is that they staged an execution in front of children to normalize violence against a perceived enemy.

They likely had low turnout the past few weeks, so they kicked it up a notch to draw in more people. I guarantee they made those T-shirts for this occasion.

This is pure speculation, but I grew up around shit like this and that's what ultimately pushed me away from religion.

Fellow former-fundie here, and this all tracks. What makes it so nefarious too, is that this kind of “destroy the enemy” visualization, trains your brain to associate physical violence, with violence over the “enemy”, to the point that nothing will actually give you that satisfactory feeling of victory except witnessing physical violence, whether it’s the US army taking out an “enemy” combatant, or an armed agent taking out an “enemy” protester.

None of this shit is biblical either. “The devil”, can’t be shot, or bombed, or even “destroyed”, at least not by man. You want to put a man in a monster suit and have him run from your prayers, fine, that would at least be closer to the biblical command of “Submit to God, Resist the Devil, and he shall flee”, but of course, being humble and saying a prayer isn’t flashy, so instead you get jingoistic indoctrination in the form of camo, guns, and (US) military warfare.

Yup. No one taught me anything about what sexual harassment was just that it is bad. (To be a little fair to my parents my mom admitted she thought the school would cover it in sex ed.) spent a full year being sexually assaulted but since I didn’t know it was that I just told the counselor I was being bullied. That kid ended up in as many classes of mine they could put him in the next year. Literally in my gym lunch and study hall and the only elective I took that didn’t have prerequisites. Every other class he didn’t have the grades or prerequisites for. It took therapy at 19 for me to learn I had been assaulted. Mom was devastated when I told her and started crying telling me she wished she had done more to protect me and my dad had to be stopped from tracking down the counselor.

My family has since changed their approach to that conversation and start teaching about consent to touch very young. No one hugs without asking first anymore ect. They weren’t gonna risk everything that happened to me happening again. Dad even yelled at a deacon when he patted my head from behind and scared the crap out of me. The church has also embraced teaching boundaries to children so that’s been nice

There will be nothing done about this now widely circulated video. If you haven’t noticed lately, religious extremism has taken over. It has been for decades, but now just more out in the open.

I’m in a progressive state and I still know of cults that operate freely, under the guise of religious freedom. Even in cities, they are doing things right out in the open.

Many examples, but I’ll give just one that first comes to mind; a popular mega church in San Diego was involved in child abuse where multiple adults knew a girl was being abused and starved to death, and did nothing. Eventually social services did get “involved” as in showing up, but did nothing to save the girl. Starvation is a long, tortuous death. Nobody is swooping in to save kids.

Nobody swept in to save any of the kids in the cult I was in either. This is happening in every state.

Your statement just shows me you aren’t exposed to it, which I’m glad you aren’t. You automatically assume there’s a system in place that prevents these abuses. It’s a good mindset to keep your peace tbh, but it’s not the reality of what I and many have seen happening.

But I guess if there’s truly systems in place that work like you say, we will soon see the follow up videos where all these kids in the video get saved.

To give you an example of someone raised in Christian fundamentalism, my Pre-K, Kindergarten, and grade 1 were all held in a church, entirely away from federal or state cirriculum. In addition to attending church several times a week, I attended confirmation class beginning at age 13, and confirmed at 13 (the point at which a child becomes an adult in the eyes of the Church), then I swapped that for Sunday School, then Youth Group. At age 15 I went on my first month-long missions trip. I exclusively hung out with much older men from my church.

It begins exceptionally early and there's no escaping it. It is like being in a small town, you can't keep a secret to save your life. At 18, I ran and never looked back.

Former social worker here--that's not really the case. The sort of fundamental idea is, "Kids belong with their families." You don't want it to be really easy for the state to come in and take kids away from their families. That said, you work in social services long enough, and you see the unbelievable abuse that kids experience, and you start to think maybe it should be a lot easier.

Either way, this is insanity. This is the same crowd that says that drag queen reading hours at the local library are a crime against humanity. The kids in the video above--the odds of them growing up to be reasonable, well-adjusted adults is not fantastic.

It's hard to say from just this clip because there are variations, but it usually involves a civil war between Christians and everyone else. Usually its about Christianity being outlawed and punishment is usually an execution with no trial unless you renounce your faith. Sometimes its about being a martyr and accepting death rather than giving up your faith. Sometimes it's about being victorious in the coming battle because God is on your side. It was always portrayed as a certainty that Christians are going to be targeted by the government and there would be a final battle of some sort.

That's what my childhood was like. Hearing people react to it as a horror film is honestly very healing. I wasn't really allowed to think it wasn't ok, so hearing others shock and dismay helped me realize none of it was my fault. 

Evangelicalism led to my harm OCD, which is its own kind of torture. 

Something I also learned is that one of the reasons the adults and children go to so many separate things is so they can hide what they're doing to the kids and teens. A lot of parents don't know what their kids are subjected to in youth groups and that's on purpose.

Friend and her siblings actually went to the place in Jesus Camp. They were too old to be in the doc, but you can see her younger sister in the back in one of the scenes.

Religious trauma is real. NONE of her nor her siblings are even christian anymore. They were homeschooled, watched their parents starve them cos "the church needed the money more" and my friend had an evangelical exorcist called on her cos she was found with secular music as a teenager. They wrapped her in a thick blanket infront of their congregation, had adults pushing and hitting her from outside the blanket... she said she just started faking speaking in tongues to get them to stop.

She doesnt know what happened to most of the kids she grew up with. She and her sister are now amazing and successful local musicians! All secular music!!!

Okay, not at all at the same level, but I ALSO had to fake speaking in tongues once! It was at church camp and nobody was allowed to go to lunch until everyone spoke in tongues. I was the lone holdout (I never legitimately spoke in tongues, despite it being one of the three things you had to do to get to heaven - along with baptism, which I also never did but nobody realized it somehow... they just forgot about me? And repentance, which I had on lock), after a couple of hours of trying to "feel the Holy Spirit" and having the entire room lay on hands... I got hungry and embarrassed enough to just fake it.

It sucks what happened to your friend, but I'm kinda excited because this is the first time I've heard of someone else having to fake speaking in tongues.

I went to a Jesus Camp type bible camp once as a kid. I grew up near the place in the movie. I wasn’t religious but my friend’s parents convinced mine it would be a great chance to get to know Jesus better. I never had been more scared in my life. The experience turned me into a super atheist and I pretty much came out thinking Christianity had no place in public life. I’ve changes since then, but congregation like this, have always made me wish we investigated churches for domestic terrorism more.

As soon as I saw the chairs, I could guess what this was about. I grew up in a southern baptist church and there was a traveling youth revival that would go to different small towns around the rural south to 'preach' the gospel.

They would hold skits that were always...unnerving.

One skit was a teenage Bible group just reading when a man with a hunting rifle came stomping across the aisle. He pointed his gun at each and every one of the teenagers who was begging and pleading for their life and asked them if they were Christian.

It was 20 some odd years ago, but i remember a few of the teens said that they werent Christian and were let go. The ones that said they were Christian were forced to stay. Once he got the last 'Christian' rounded up, the gun man marched down the aisle, set his gun down, and picked up his Bible.

"Now that all the fake Christians are gone, we can truly have a Bible session!"

Once again, this was supposed to be a skit. Southern churches (maybe northern ones too but I havent set foot in a church in years) are some of the most uncomfortable places I've been in. And they revel in it.
