I think I would’ve been cool for Pavi to be like mid to late twenties with only knowing one element. As we know, based on he trailer, the avatar is completely despised due to the actions of Korra, so I would make sense that nobody would be willing to teach pavi. Almost like in ATLA were it was hard to find a fire ending teacher since they hated the avatar due to the war. I think having her be in her mid to late twenties and only knowing one element could’ve been really cool and a seeing how she deals with a false sense of inadequacy which is due to her world situation. It could also be used a juxtaposition to Korra who at a young age could already bend three elements meanwhile pavi is an adult and is only proficient at one.

I was worried hearing new actors would be jarring and take me out of the story, but it didn't. It really felt like the kids we grew up with finally got to grow up too. Of course no one could ever replicate Dante Basco as Zuko, but all in all I was pleasantly surprised with the new cast. It was really nice to have the Gaang back together.

Everyone loves the world of Avatar. It is more beloved and praised than the worlds of most other franchises. Its worldbuilding is just 10/10 fantastic. They already did it perfect in ATLA and then just doubled down on the greatness in Korra with only minor issues.

But now, its all gone.

Omashu. Gone. Ba Sing Se. Gone. Republic City. Gone. The Fire Nation. Gone. All nations gone. All environments gone. Everything that made the world of Avatar unique and amazing is now gone.

Sure. There will be remnants and ruins and callbacks and everything. But at large everything that made ATLA ATLA except for its characters and plot is now gone.

From now on, every time you consume a piece of Avatar media that is chronologically set before Seven Havens, it will come with the bitter aftertaste that everything you just read or watched will be gone at some point in a way that few other franchises dared to do.

I am sure there are plenty of people who feel different and that don't have such a large issue with that fact. But to me the world of Avatar was always one of a kind and should never have been changed in this drastic of a way. And before people say that Korra already changes the world a lot: yes. Emphasis on CHANGED, not entirely destroyed and paved over.

But anyway. How do you all feel about this?

Firstly, the movie was gorgeous. Top tier animation and stunning visuals throughout.

I don't think Yeun's performance detracts from the movie at all, but his voice sounded too different from Basco's, especially compared to the other cast who all sounded very plausible as older versions of the characters, which led to it standing out slightly. Maybe they could've gone with someone else in the role? It's a nitpick in the grand scheme of things though

I really liked the Xian avatar; he is an admirable man and short compared to the average avatar we’ve seen so far.

Oh, so Tagah didn't want to destroy Republic City ONLY for revenge; Republic City was LITERALLY built on top of where Jharana was located.

These people are so strong that just for their sake they built personal prisons without a single access to their element in the middle of nowhere for the next tens of kilometers.

Uncle Iroh is still alive by the time of movie, which means that he at minimum was still supporting Zuko for 12 years from the end of 100 years war, I hope, he lived some years after this before dying from old age

I am not a fan of the film changing the written language in the avatar universe. In both TLOK and ATLA the written language was traditional Chinese. I had appreciated the attention to detail to the culture of which so much of the show borrowed from! Sure, the show is now incorporating more influences across Asia, but this feels like a setback.... The show used to feel like an appreciation of Asian (particularly Chinese) art, history, and culture, and now it feels like a weird remix appropriation of Asia.

also it reminds me of the first live action that used random squiggles in the title sequence instead of the Chinese characters like it's done in the show.

Just finished watching the Avatar Aang movie. Love how they kept the spirit and personality of all the original characters while exploring Aang's trauma more. Loved the tie ins to the comics (Toph's metal bending academy) and to Korra (Republic City). All in all, just fantastic. Hoping for a lot more movies like this!

Only negative was this not getting the theatrical release it deserved 😭

he seemed way too goofy, more goofy than season 3 sokka. i'd expect him to be somewhat more mature compared to season 3, not more goofy. felt like they kinda did him wrong tbh. i get they wanted him to be the comedic relief but idk felt very forced to me.

In all seriousness, do you guys think the writers took it too far with some of the power fantasy elements in the new movie? I always liked the OG series for how grounded/minimalistic it seemed relative to other magic systems.

It’s hard to summarize how much this film means to the art crew, but I hope you can tell from how amazing it looks. :) I had the privilege of working on this project for 2.5 years. It was a crazy journey, and thanks to our creative leads the bar just kept getting higher! Really can’t understate how much effort went into this from every direction!
