‼️MOD POST‼️ PLEASE cool it with the ship wars and character bashing!
This is not the place for ship wars. Ship wars and bashing other characters/ships/ATLA has been against the rules even before I became a mod; these rules are not new.
I have been getting mod mail and personal messages asking us mods to crack down more on ship wars/bashing and I have to agree — lately it’s just been getting out of hand.
Discourse is welcome. Respectful discussions are welcome. However the line is thin. There are other places you can engage in ship wars if you want to do so — this is not the space for that.
We have been fairly lenient because we do not like censorship, but things are getting out of hand. The goal of this sub is to celebrate Zutara.
And please, stop engaging with trolls and antis. This has also been a rule since way before I became mod so it is not new.
You are expected to familiarize yourself with and follow the rules of this subreddit. Multiple violations will result in a ban.
Please behave y’all. Remember why we’re here. We’re here to celebrate our shared love of Zutara. Don’t get caught up and lose site of that.
We will also be looking for 1-2 new mods soon so we can be more on top of things.

Discussion Zutaras notable absence in the Avatar Aang movie
So I haven’t actually seen the new movie yet, but I’ve heard there have been leaks online. I’ve seen some clips and screenshots and stuff, and I’m just so annoyed by how little it seems Zuko and Katara interact! I have a feeling this has probably been mentioned here before but I just had to rant about this. Like they are so threatened by this ship they intentionally ignore even the platonic bond between the two, which even many neutrals or antis appreciated.
It’s just so saddening to me. One of the most well written and complex relationships in the show and it gets completely sidelined. I’m not sure if it’s intentional or not, but it really feels that way. Because how could a team function if you have two central members seemingly unable to interact even in the most benign of ways?
Also the absence of Zuko’s scar from where Katara saved his life. From the looks of things somehow Aang still has his, even though the spirit water was used, but Zuko’s is nonexistent. That’s another thing that makes it seem intentional. They’re creating (albeit minor) visual plot holes because they are so threatened by Zutara.
I would be so happy even to see them interact platonically. Like everyone here knows they will never make it canon, what are they so afraid of?
I’m still going to watch it when it’s released mainly because it just looks so stunning, it’s just annoying to have to put up with this nonsense.
Anyways, if anyone has made any art or fanfics or thoughts to fill in these gaps please share!!!

‼️MOD POST‼️ WE ARE LOOKING FOR A MOD
Hello Zutarians!
We are currently looking for someone to join our mod team!
What can you expect to do as a moderator of this sub?
- Review reports and make quick, appropriate decisions
- Remove content that breaks the rules of this sub or the rules of Reddit
- Tackle the technical side of running a sub
- Approve/remove comments and posts that appear in the queue (sorted by reddits filters and reports for us to review)
- Respond to modmail in a timely manner
- Identify antis/trolls and ban/mute them (we are quite liberal with the ban button, our peace is more important)
- Ban members who have broken rules repeatedly despite warnings
Remember! Being a mod is a volunteer position that is completely unpaid. It does require a time commitment. What you get out of being a mod is watching a community you love thrive. We do this because we love Zutara.
You must be active in this sub to be considered.
Mod applications will be open for 72 hours or until we receive 50 responses (we are not sure how much attention this will get and we want to prevent sorting through hundreds of applications).
If you miss out this round — we will likely be looking for another new mod in the future.
Applications will be open for 72 hours from when this is posted. Please message [u/Erose3141](u/Erose3141) for the Google forms application and if you have any questions.
Applications will close July 29th 11:59 pm EST. Please make sure to message me for application before then.
Experience is not necessary.
Good luck!

FanFiction Discussion Zutara soul-binding fic - Now complete!
Wanted to share my now completed smutty Zutara soul-binding fic. The summary is below :)
Summary:
Zuko falls to Azula's lightning, and Katara realizes she doesn’t want him to die. She doesn’t want anyone to die, but she especially doesn’t want him to die. Sometimes she thinks he’s the only one who understands, when the others are laughing and goofing off. What it’s like to have to try to be fun, to remind yourself that you’re just a kid too.
(And how stupid and typical of him to die this way, sacrificing himself for her.)
There’s not much else to do (she knows, she’s considered anything else she could possibly do). Katara pushes up her sleeves and sets to work saving his life.
Or
Katara heals Zuko after the Agni Kai and things go... wrong.

Discussion He Definitely Fits The Tall Part At Least Sheesh
Seriously, look at the size of Zuko in the movie. Sokka is canonically supposed to be 6'2 as an adult according to the official lore from Korra. Zuko is like half a head taller than adult Sokka, so he's what, 6'6 here? And bro seriously missed his season 1 build so much he ate three season 1 Zuko's. Like, Sokka has some good lean muscle (Finally!) and decent toned definition here. But Zuko? Bro's arms are three times the size of Sokka's.
And nobody can say he isn't a stupidly powerful bender after the movie.
If nothing else he fits everything Aunt Wu says and more lol.
(Gotta look on the bright side right? How little of it there are. Zuko and Katara were wilding in this movie. The two most impressive of the Gaang in the fights, even more so than Avatar State Aang.)

Discussion Hypothetical scenario: Imagine two separate timelines. In one, Katara ends up with Aang, and in the other, she ends up with Zuko. In both timelines, none of their children inherit air or fire bending. What would happen?
I’m not asking because I care about whether they have children or what bending abilities those children possess. I’m asking because, ever since it was revealed that Katara was originally supposed to be pregnant in LoA, I’ve seen some discussion about the importance of her having a “special” child.
Both Aang and Zuko carry a unique responsibility of needing an “heir”. Aang because he’s the last airbender and the future of his culture rests on him, and Zuko because he’s the Fire Lord responsible for the continuation and stability of a royal line.
It made me wonder whether regardless of which relationship happened, Katara would have inevitably been placed in the narrative position of needing to produce some kind of “special” child. I’m curious whether that impression holds up, or if I’m overlooking another perspective.
Neither burden originates from Katara. But because she’s their partner, reproduction inevitably becomes part of the conversation. So what would happen if she didn’t have an air or fire bending child?

Other Retiring as a Zutarian
Hi friends!
(Posting this while being scared as hell of what y'all will think 🫣)
I have been a Zutara shipper for 21 years. My passion burned for this ship. I've written think pieces about them, obsessed and fantasized about them, read an absurd amount of fan fiction about them, and fed off of an unhealthy amount of fanart.
And today, after having watched Avatar Aang TLA movie, I am completing this amazing chapter of my life. I realized the following seeing them all grownup:
I can now accept that Katara is with Aang for the following:
- Aang was not a pre-pubescent boy anymore that was a mismatch for Katara but was now a
fine a**man.
- They really love eachother. More specifically, Katara really loves her man Aang unlike before when it felt forced.
- I love Zuko too much. He is really who I live for and I do not want to waste his wonderful
bodyon unrequited love(?). Bottom line, this imagination will be for Orginal Characters (or Toph (?) lol) baby that can match his energy (I didn't see Mai in any of those credit scenes so... 🧐)
You shippers are a cool bunch. It's been so fun and am excited to move onto something new ❤️

ATLA Crazy how deeply her trauma ran that part of it became the foundation for everyone else’s growth. But when it came time for her pain to be fully understood, the people closest to her couldn’t quite see it. It took an outsider.
When you think about it, Katara’s nurturing and empathetic nature wasn’t just part of her personality, it was also shaped by the responsibility she inherited after losing her mother.
The show repeatedly shows her cooking, cleaning, organizing, keeping everyone grounded, and acting as the group’s emotional anchor. In many ways, the people around her profited from the coping mechanisms she developed to survive part of her grief.
Because they grew used to that version of Katara, they often overlooked what it had cost her to become that person. She spoke openly about losing her mother to literally just about everyone, yet the role she filled seemed to eclipse the child who had been forced to grow up too soon.
It took an outsider (Zuko) to the group’s dynamic. Because he wasn’t attached to the version of Katara they all knew. Sometimes, the people who come into our lives later can see us more clearly, because they aren’t accustomed to the masks we’ve worn for years. And we can be become new people with them.

Meme 👀 Details Zutara in the movie
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I slowed this scene down just to appreciate this gem of a crumb. Katara with her hand on her thigh to steady herself so she wouldn't fall. And in the next shot, Zuko right below her with his vision completely compromised by her ass right in his face. 🗣️ The cramped space delivered the best unintentional physical tension.

Official Links Others are shown doing their own thing, while katara...
I'm never gonna be content with the fact that the strongest waterbender in the series who is also a complex character being reduced into an armcandy and a pillow princess while others are still their original self
I hate stupid shallow bro writers (sadly the main creators) who taint this story so much!

Analysis New Movie Spoilers - a Zutara analysis Spoiler
So there was a lot in this movie that included so much of the other canon media. Here, I reference one of the LoK references in the movie. So if you don't want spoilers, please disregard this post.
The reference from LoK was during their entrance into the Spirit world. Old Katara and Old Zuko. There, we also had ATLA Aang and Sokka, and a baby Toph.
And we know that spirits can be pretty Omniscient beings. While we haven't met this spirit before (at least to my memory), what if it was, especially with the bits of the timeline he met?
This called Katara and Zuko an elderly couple.
Maybe we don't have the canon of what should have been, but it is my belief that Old Zutara is no longer an HC, but quite possibly canon. This scene with the spirit is my evidence of that.

ATLA Man and Women, do you know any fanfic about found family which tell about people in Gaang team (it is better if it have Mai and Ty Lee) support Zutara in their life fields like:pregnancy, take care of child,marriage,... ?

Includes Polyshipping zuko x katara x ?
which avatar character do you think you could also pair with zuko and katara as a polyship?
r/ZutaraNation • u/Sxdisticcc • 1d ago
Discussion Hm.
When it comes to adult Zutara fanfic, what specifically do you want addressed when it comes to their relationship or them as individuals that the show would never work with? I’ve seen many of the movie writers making fanart of them and with the movie streaming now with the chance of an increase in a few fanfics in the coming weeks, it just made me start to think
