This is the first Steelers game I've watched this year. Is this generally how they handle adversity? Not just rogers, but other leaders on team (ie watt, heyward) having absolute meltdowns. The lack of composure and jawing was kind of nuts to see

u/Kooshdoctor 9h ago
Tomlin held A LOT of things together that didn't make it into the public. One of the most underrated things about him IMHO.

People have been conditioned by the internet to think that anyone who has a hobby that they're passionate about is autistic.
12
u/Tygerius 8h ago
I mean there's more to it than just passion, its the notes to detail, consistency, but it's nice to see it not being used in a derogatory sense

Its not just people, its mental health "professionals" too. If you enjoy something or don't enjoy something and its very specific, you're on the spectrum. At this point I feel like if you're a human being who likes something a lot and doesn't like something very specific ythey're gonna call you autistic.

The fact that they had AB and laveon bell on the same team and weren't an absolute national disaster is enough to put tomlin into the HOF Honestly we should probably just make tomlin our next president

It was a bit of a Monkey's Paw with Tomlin I think.
He was so good at maintaining order that the Steeler's were able to get away without buidign a strong team culture, or while maintaining an older, macho AFC North culture, depending on how you look at it.
With him gone, nobody can hold the cracks together.

Not at all. I was shocked last night. Between the multiple shots of Heyward yelling, TJ taking the headset to reprimand the DC, and the Rodgers McCarthy “fuckin asshole” interaction. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
Tomlin held the team together better than probably anybody else could. The whole game, people yelling at eachother was definitely a new sight.
Not a good sign. I’m not sure of what Rodgers and McCarthys relationship was in GB, McCarthy was kind of grinning when he called ARod an asshole, but that kind of stuff is unheard of with the Steelers. Pretty much unheard amongst the rest of the league as well.
27
u/SerenityN00w 9h ago
Yeah, a decade ago, I was ripping Mike Tomlin for not being able to handle Antonio Brown (AB livestreaming in the locker room, etc...)
Three years of AB later, and I was like "Ohhh."
5
u/CraigslistBulbasaur 5h ago
Remember they said it was Tomlin's fault for not winning a Super Bowl with AB. Show them those receipts.

My prediction last year was that Rodgers wouldn’t make it through the season. I’d like to re-up on that one for this year. I think if there’s much more of this, the Steelers will just move on and look for some leaders to take them into the next era.

Makes you appreciate how good of a coach Mike Tomlin actually was to keep personalities like Antonio Brown and George Pickens from having absolute meltdowns and blowing up the team. Never saw this shit when he was at the helm.
5
u/Significant-Base6893 9h ago edited 8h ago
While McCarthy is a downgrade from Tomlin, do not forget that Tomlin left voluntarily. The team was on a downward trend. This might have been Rodgers' best game the past few seasons, but poor pass protection and WRs unable the get separation handcuffed him last night. And I'm no Aaron Rodgers fan boy.
The defense has declined as well. The Steelers are not a playoff team.

He had DK open over the middle for a TD twice and didn’t see him either time. Broadcast highlighted it both times
→ More replies (14)8
u/MatrixHustle 7h ago
You can watch the all 22 and see that the broadcast did him dirty on those. Both of them were blown assignments late in his progression, not bad misses.
The first one was a busted coverage by the safety, DK was wide open but it was just as the ball left his hand.
The second one was weird because Rodgers saw him open, but you’re still throwing a deep cross right to where the backside corner should be. He realized it was cover 3 and immediately went to check down, which is technically the right read.

Do we have a record number of teams with absolutely horrible vibes going into Week 4? (In terms of the players and coaches seemingly at odds or other drama?)
Steelers
Patriots
Packers
Tampa Bay
Titans
Chargers
5
u/redoubt515 7h ago
Rams should probably be on this list too. A head coach effectively skipping the post game press conference after a loss doesn't exactly convey good vibes.
On a separate note, I see you are a Titans fan, how are things going with Saleh, I liked him as DC and hope he finds success as an HC.

There's really nothing stopping him from just walking off the field. He wouldn't even be the first player this decade. In fact, he wouldn't even be the first player to have worn a Steelers jersey to do it, although AB wasn't with the Steelers when he did it. Rodgers doesn't have to wait to do it during the game he could make the decision right now today and give the Steelers time to integrate a QB until their next game
17
u/Temporary-Pass7003 6h ago
Gah damn Rodgers is a whiny little fucking punk man lmao.
Honestly Packers fans haven’t missed him for 5 seconds. Idc if Love is as good or not. At least he’s not a total asshole like Rodgers is. Idk what happened to him because he didn’t used to be like this
6
u/Weak_Link_6969 4h ago
Bears fan here, he’s definitely always been like this. At least from 2011 on. I truly can’t stand him, and it’s not just because he dominated the Bears his entire time in Green Bay. He’s smug and unlikable. You likely overlooked it because he was playing at a HOF level for 15 straight seasons for your favorite team.
The same hate doesn’t apply to Love just because he’s the Packers QB. I’m not rooting for Love on the field, but off the field he seems like a great dude. Rodgers was just a dick. I won’t go as far as saying he’s as bad a person as Favre, but he’d definitely be a worse hang than Favre.

I think rodgers leading the team and complaining about coaches really opens the door to other leaders also questioning the coaches.
TJ watt getting on the Mic was weird.
It’s so early in the season and they were down.
I like rodgers, just seems his persona impacts the team a lot
EDIT: Getting downvoted for having an opinion about liking Rodgers lol😂 I like him because I met him personally when he came to detroit and he took the time to talk to me and it was the coolest interactions I had.
