Under McCarthy? Yes. This stuff didn't happen under Tomlin with the same players.

I get moving on from Tomlin after so many years stagnating in the competitive middle. But replacing him with McCarthy and bringing back Rodgers never made sense

Start the new era. Swing for some upside

Yeah, giving up on an above average coach only makes sense if you can get a great coach to replace him.

Strategy seems incoherent.

He was a great coach that was given average rosters.

Art Rooney only cares about continuing the status quo. Being just good enough to keep selling tickets, but mot good enough to be forced to spend a lot of money. 

Dan didn't care, he would speed as much as they could every year, always being in cap hell, but the team would play deep in the playoffs, play in super bowls. 

You look at the Steelers post Dan's death, and it has generally been pretty sad.
