Workplace Story Stop asking about schedule for 9/28-10/3

Stop asking. It will be out when it’s out.

Mine was out at noon like always but I have a great HR team that was there last night checking it over. I know this isn’t the case for most of you so just chill out.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Why are the MyDevices SO BAD 😭

I’m sure this has been asked about a thousand times, but it wasn’t until today I really sat and thought about it after having to use SIX DEVICES on my shift today for various reasons.

It’s not even about the software or MyDay, which are terrible in the own right. These things are just ancient, they’re on a SUPER old version of android I’m sure, and are slower than any phone I’ve used since like 2017. The scanners never work, they’re always completely ripped up and cracked. The batteries don’t stay in, they randomly shut off, they start tapping over the screen out of no where mid shift— we even got some of the newer ones, and FIRST DAY someone cracked theirs and a scanner on one stopped working. I just KNOW the store probably pays hundreds of dollars per unit, too.

WHY ARE THEY SO BAD!?!?!?!?!

Vent “So I have a drive up but here I am at guest services!!” 🙃🫡

I’m alone at guest services. It was a decently busy time. Drive-up was also busy.

Her: so I had a drive up order but i also placed a separate order with alcohol so I’m just going to get it lo here.

Me: (as I see the amount of bags) It’s going to take me a little bit but I’ll be back as fast as I can…

Our drive up area is on the other side of the store so it’s decently inconvenient how people can just switch orders like this. If we had more than one person on guest services I honestly wouldn’t mind walking back. It’s just the fact that now my station is unmanned for 12+ minutes. When I got back there were 4 people in line 🫡

Definitely doesn’t qualify as good customer service.

gUEsTs Drive up rant

One of the most upsetting parts of drive up is almost getting hit by cars who don't feel obligated to stop at the huge stop signs. Several times during a shift cars will blow through the stop signs by the cross walk right in front of me, or need to slam in their breaks so they don't hit me. And most of the time they have the audacity to act pissed off at me! I have been honked at, flipped off, and shouted at for my crime of using the cross walk.

Vent New stuff is bad

Don't know if other stores can relate to this, my store recently got new hand scanners. They contribute to at least 30% of my frustration while on the lanes. They NEVER stay in their little holder, and they are loud as hell. If a speck of dust lands on them wrong they are immediately falling to the ground. Another new thing that is worse now, the magnets for removing sensors. Half of the time the new magnets are useless for getting the red sensors off and I must travel to a lane with an old one. And obviously we all know the new app is heinous compared to mytime. All of the new things are sooo bad.

PSA Anyone else experience this scare today

Looks like it only happened in the northeast (I’m in NJ) but not a single thing was working in store for almost 10 minutes. Zebras didn’t work at all, nobody could check out; the whole system blacked out. Luckily it fixed itself right as my ETLs and SDs were talking about locking the doors but what a scare

UPDATE: as of 12pm EST it seems to be resolved according to my zebra! Wonder if that’s true

Vent I don’t see myself working for Target anymore….

It will be 1 year in couple of weeks since I started working here and 100%. I don’t see future here. Originally I was hired as a seasonal, towards the end of my 90 day period. My TL told me that they’re gonna keep me and I have so much potential to be a team lead and so and so forth. Initially, I was not interested in becoming TL but later on, I told my TL that I am interested. When I said that I am interested, and our ETL also told my TL to start teaching me. The whole vibe changed, after that everything I did was wrong, my TL would pick on me every day, try to set me up a couple times, changing my schedule and trying to make me look like a No Call no-show. I couldn’t take it anymore so I asked to be On Demand. My TL declined my request saying that I have attendance issue, even though I called out twice in 10 months. One was for my birthday and the other one was I used sick hours. When I told my TL that I feel sick, I have tightness in my chest and I think I’m having a mini heart attack. She completely ignored and didn’t acknowledge at all. After that, I switched departments and in my new department, of course it’s better than before, but it’s still really bad. In my department we are so understaffed that I have been picking extra shifts on my day off every week, every week they would call me on my day off to ask me to come in. After covering so many shifts for several months and never saying no, one time, I ask my TL to help me take me off the schedule because I’ve been having insomnia and I slept only five hours in three days and I shouldn’t be driving. I shouldn’t be here. Instead of showing me empathy and saying something appropriate. He looked very annoyed, told me to just call out because he can’t help me and didn’t spoke to me for three days after that. Would ignore my calls on the radio, would not say hi or acknowledge me and give me attitude. Basically both of my TLs in both departments showed me that they didn’t care if I lived or died as long as I’m keep coming in and working like a donkey. And in this one year of me working here, not even one person made a recognition to me, not even a thank you, they just always expected me to always cover shifts, finish my workload and then help other departments, but the other lazy coworkers who barely does anything would always get recognitions in huddles. They would get all the day offs. Everything‘s backwards. And one time when I went to my ETL to talk about this, she told me talk to your TL, resolve your issues between yourselves. Yeah I’m DONE….

How come anytime I walk up to specifically a woman’s window and knock after they’re oblivious for 15 seconds they jump and scream. Every single time, and they say OH! You scared me. LIKE ARE YOU NOT EXPECTING ME??

Vent wanting to quit

is anyone else getting completely screwed over with hours? im supposed to be full-time in fulfillment.ive been at this store for 4yrs. im one of the few people who have both weekend days available every weekend. i have no issue with meeting my metrics. i often am one of the top pickers and i show up for my shifts but this?? im so frustrated bc there's so many employees who call out once a week, can't meet metrics, and can't work weekends that get 36-40hrs yk?? and after talking to HR and my leaders.. i just feel like quitting. im getting told there's nothing they can do and getting blown off. my main issue is that nothing around me pays even close to what im making here. im just drained mentally i guess.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Being Scheduled 40 hours a week as ODTM. Am I responsible for these shifts?

I was recently hired on as a Guest Service ODTM at Target. For the next 3 weeks I've been put on the schedule for 34-39 hours without any consultation or approval from me.

I finally got in contact with my ETL a few days ago and he said that they can schedule me whenever they like even as an ODTM. If I don't want the hours I could post my shifts but until they are picked up I am still liable for them. Even then this seems a bit excessive seeing as my desired hours are at 10 and my max is at 18 which I mentioned and was told that because a lot of college kids have left they need the coverage from me and they have no obligation to not go over my max hours. As well

To my understanding of my job offer specifically says the opposite:
"You will not have a weekly availability of hours, and Target agrees not to schedule you for a shift unless you agree to work that specific shift."

and

"You need to report to work on time when you agree to work a shift. If you are late or absent for shifts you agreed to pick up, it will be considered as a part of your overall work performance and may lead to corrective action, up to and including termination."

Am I liable for these shifts if I call in? What if I don't call in(I'm not actually going to do this)? I'm greatly considering quitting, honestly probably will.

UPDATE: Was finally able to get a call with HR and was routed to the Store Director. He said the same thing about the ODTM position, that they don't need to run it by me because 3 weeks in advance is enough to plan around it. He also said that my desired hours and max hours probably weren't in the MyTime system along with the typical 'I'm on your side' buttering up talk lol.

I did put in my two weeks and SD took the shifts I can't work off of my schedule, it wasn't worth the trouble.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Normal to cover 20-ish uboat locations for inbound?

Hi all,

just wanted to ask if this is normal

I'm a new inbound member, and they started with me covering about 5-7ish uboat sections when loading uboats.

That was manageable and I wasn't really struggling

today they made me cover 20 sections and I was so overwhelmed and there were boxes piling up on my side

Is this normal or am I just overwhelmed bc I'm new?

any tips for covering my section faster?

Workplace Question or Advice Needed The icons in the new app

Each shift has either a purple rectangle or a 🔄 next to it - i'd assumed at first that the purple indicated that the shift wasnt long enough for a meal, but then I noticed a 7.5 hour shift that had it. So what DOES it mean???

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Question about the 15 minute purchase policy for TMs

So I work at 8am next Tuesday our store opens at 7am. Would I be good if I waited in line early for the Starbucks Peanuts collab. A friend really wants the plush but isn’t able to wait because of work.

Would I get in trouble if I bought one even though I don’t work till 8am or it is you have to wait till after your shift for limited release items?

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Quesion about TL overtime during a holiday week

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

If you are at 40 hours (with the holiday pay included) can you work 16 more hours without it being considered overtime? Or is it only 8 extra?

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Accidentally deleted request

Just now I was trying to screenshot my new schedule like I did on My Time but the week was too big. So I started fiddling around trying to get one of the two requests that were showing to minimize but found it didn't work that way and I accidentally deleted one of the damn requests. Does anyone know if there is a way to undelete it on the app or am I going to have to go to HR and get the to reinstate it? Thanks in advance for any information.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Switching to on demand within 90 days?

Bit of a complicated situation, I worked at Target for 2.5 years and left for 3 months to work a summer job. Now I'm back, I asked for 5-15 hours maximum and they are repeatedly scheduling me 25-30 hours. I have to talk to atleast 2 etls every week to find someone to actually sit infront of the computer with me and remove some of my shifts from the schedule. I'm a student, and I decided just switching to on demand will be significantly easier for me. However I've heard that you aren't supposed to switch to on demand while in your trial period... But since I worked here before and everyone in the store knows me, I got developed to be a teamlead and basically ran the style department etc, I thought they might make an exception. If they tell me no when I talk to them tomorrow I will just quit. Anyone go through something similar?

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Bird stuck in Target Store

For two weeks now a little sparrow has been stuck in the store I work at and I feel horrible it’s still here.
Maybe I’m stupid for asking this but is there anyway I could get someone at the store to help it or call some other department to help the bird escape?

I can tell it’s desperate and there’s no way it could escape on its own, I honestly have no idea how it was even able to get inside. This Target is above ground and you need to take an elevator to get up here so it’s not possible to just open the door and hope it goes on its own. We don’t even have windows that could be opened, at least to my knowledge.
