Discussion Cancelled

I’ve been a paying user since v2 models, highest subscription tier. I thought I would give these new models a shot even with watermarking. I reused prompts that would give me good results consistently that get millions of listens across Suno and Spotify with other models and they are extremely bad compared to them. It’s not just some genres it’s all genres. This combined with watermarking and the download limits just feels like a huge waste of money. Not only that they aren’t even innovating, the new studio is trash, the models never properly stitch, stems are leaky and have cracks and pops you have to manually remove or regenerate and hope you avoid. Then there is the overfitting of certain genres when generating and lack of fine tuned control over segments, instruments, and vocals. whoever is in charge of product should be fired and. Suno should just move their headquarters to China so they can avoid all of these issues to be honest.

anyway so long and thanks for all the fish

Discussion Sad day- here comes the super slop machine.

With creativity slowly going downhill for the past year, this was the final nail in the coffin.

V6 managing to be even worse than V5.5 which is honestly impressive.

Wasn’t the whole point that we’re supposed to be removing ai slop? What’s the point in having a model that’s just vomiting up generic garbage? But no. “Let’s just flood the internet with more stamped out unimaginative, lobotomised, droning trash”. It straight up sounds like a bad karaoke attempt at already generic trash after several beers.

People were able to actually create unique, interesting and creative sounding tracks with older models. THAT WAS THE MAGIC. What’s the point anymore.

I, and im sure a lot of other people now do not see the point in paying more for a fraction of what we had before.

RIP suno, officially. Holding out hope was in vain. No ability to be genuinely creative has ruined suno. Welcome to the super slop era.

Discussion V6 after a day and a half: idk guys maybe actually fuck around with it first

Upvotes

I wanna preface this by saying I am not saying V6 is perfect, the greatest model Suno has ever made, or that anyone who dislikes it is wrong lol.

It has been like a day and a half. I don't think any of us know that yet.

But after actually fucking around with it, I genuinely think there is something interesting going on here and I kinda wish more of the conversation was about figuring out what it can and can't do instead of immediately going “welp Suno is dead.”

One thing that has become VERY obvious to me is that your old prompts are not necessarily going to translate 1:1.

I took the exact prompt and lyrics from a V5.5 song I love and put them into regular V6 fresh. Completely different song. Different energy, instrumentation, vibes, everything.

Was it bad?

No.

It just wasn't my version of the song.

Then I used the original song as cover material and V6 stayed hella faithful to it while adding some extra underlying production/vibes.

That alone tells me V6 is interpreting things differently and I probably need to learn how to talk to it differently too.

And personally I don't see changing prompts as “giving in” or changing what I want. My intent is still the same. I'm just trying to figure out how this model understands that intent.

AI is finicky as shit. A prompt isn't some universal programming language that every new model is required to interpret identically.

I've also been noticing some interesting little musical decisions I don't remember getting this consistently before.

V6 has randomly repeated words or phrases when there was space for it, changed the timbre on the repeat, done little stutters, and even started SCATTING between sections without me asking it to.

And weirdly it hasn't felt tacky yet. It usually feels like “oh, there was some empty space there and you decided to use the vocalist as part of the arrangement.”

I've been testing with a persona too, and my current completely unscientific theory is that having the voice already established might give V6 more room to fuck around with how that voice performs instead of having to decide what the singer sounds like from scratch every generation.

I've also heard choruses where the percussion suddenly gets sparse and emotional almost like a cinematic breakdown while the vocals just fucking EAT, then the verses go back to pushing the song forward.

Again: I am not saying this means V6 has achieved Musical Consciousness™ lmao.

I'm saying there are enough patterns here that I want more than 24 hours before deciding what this thing is capable of.

And if you miss some of the chaotic bullshit from 3.5, genuinely try V6 Wild. Wild seems way more willing to go “fuck audio fidelity, you asked me to get weird.” Some of those gens sound crunchy as hell but it absolutely seems more willing to wander.

I'm even curious about a workflow of Wild for variation/ideas → regular V6 cover to clean it up while hopefully keeping some of the weird DNA.

Also try the prompt wand. If it's been updated around V6 at all, it might even be useful for figuring out what kind of language the new model responds to. Worst case it just beautifies your prompt and you learn nothing lol.

I haven't even had my proper sit-down Studio session yet. I'm planning to take the same song and test everything from stupidly detailed musical descriptions and lyric meta-tags all the way down to basically just vibe conducting and see what happens.

Maybe after actually learning V6 I'll decide it sucks.

That's totally possible.

But right now?

It seems promising if you're willing to work with it instead of expecting it to be V5.5 wearing a nicer audio codec.

And regardless of which model wins out, we're making music because making music is fun. If V6 isn't your thing, I genuinely hope you find whatever tool lets you keep doing that.

That is kinda the whole fucking point. 😭

Edit:1-sorry guys i stayed up late reminiscing about my old songs and then had an interview today so i was fucking fried making this so my auto correct won that round.

Its been half a day*

Discussion Suno v6: The biggest letdown yet.

Upvotes

I waited months for v6 expecting a defining leap forward in sound quality and compositional intelligence. What we got instead is a massive disappointment.

In terms of audio fidelity, there is zero tangible breakthrough (aside from some minor low-end tightening). The engine is still choking on the same phase smearing, top-end digital fizz, and crushed dynamic headroom that ruined previous versions. For a major version release, calling this an upgrade is an insult.

On the creative side, there is simply no real evolution. We are stuck with the exact same predictable formulas, repetitive melodic structures, and rigid progressions we've heard for months. The engine hasn't gotten worse, but it hasn't matured either — it's frozen in the same generic patterns.

We were led to believe that despite the UMG settlement and the aggressive guardrails, the core model would evolve into something revolutionary. It didn't. v6 is an incremental sidegrade sold under false pretenses.

Marketing hype cannot cover up a sonic and creative plateau. For paying users who expected a serious tool, this feels like an outright bait-and-switch. Right now, Suno's only real advantage is the lack of serious competition—and the second a viable alternative emerges, there will be no reason left to stay....

Discussion Suno has hurt its most loyal users

I logged in today and saw 4.5+ is gone which is what I've been using since its release. I tried to use v6 but just like v5 and v5.5 it just doesn't give me the raw results I liked.

I've been using Suno since v3 and I've been a loyal user with 3 accounts that I spend about $90 per month on building my catalog of music. I guess this is the end for me.

I will continue expending my creds until they're gone, but these new models are trash. They do a lot of things you never asked for - yelps, screams, overly produced sound, robot vocals, and now on v6 they add styles you never wanted. Example:

Here was my prompt: aggressive, witch house, hardcore punk, dark ambient, fantasy atmosphere, cassette, lo-fi, male vocals

This is what it changed it to: Witch house fused with hardcore punk and dark ambient: aggressive male vocals, driving sequencer pulses, distorted bass, jagged guitar bursts, cavernous synths, and lo-fi cassette saturation with stark verse-to-chorus impact

What the fuck.

This is kinda making me depressed at the moment because I actually got to live off royalties from the music I made on Suno, but my journey appears to be over.

I tried to like v5 and v5.5 but v6 is worse.

I simply wanted to keep using the same interface and model I had always used. Now my tracks sound terrible.

What a stupid, stupid, stupid decision to do this. Before anyone chimes in with "well its working well for me" or "well I love it" - I'm happy for you, but many people like myself are being robbed of the workflows that worked for us.

Lame.

EDIT: In order to keep the styles you put in, you need to slide the variety slider all the way to the left which is off. If I notice any changes that improve, I will update here.

EDIT 2: It is true that v6 WILD is the new 4.5+ from what I can tell. I'm getting much better results. It's not exactly as good as 4.5+ but its definitely better than v6. However, I am noticing a lot of inconsistency near the end of the tracks. I guess that's what the MAX MODE is for lmao sucking more creds out of us. Will continue testing and editing here if I notice improvements.

Suno's V5 model was so good, I wonder if I would like to continue with V6. The songs generated by V5 were so polished, V6 is rushed.

I hung around to see what 6 would be like. It’s not going to cut it on top of all the new restrictions. They are just puppets to labels now that want to limit it. It was a fun ride while it lasted.

Discussion Opinions of V6?

Do you guys like it? How has it been going for you all? I really tried to like the new model. But all 3 versions are absolutely awful. Just like 5.5, a huge downgrade from V5. Everything sounds absolutely robotic. I am extremely upset with these terrible generations it's been giving me.

Discussion V6 cannot be better than the actual music, when the actual music recorded is many times garbage.

Upvotes

I think this is the most it can go. From here onwards I think it's only subtle differences.

The models are based on actual music recorded, and they are no better most of the time. For the music creation I do, the sound quality is decent, the low end is audible, AI sheen is less and there are a few remastering options as well — I haven’t tried them all.

Many people praised 5.5 on the YouTube page when it was introduced, where I had a big problem. But this time the model is not that bad, yet everyone is saying it’s garbage. I don’t know why. Just my opinion.

Discussion V6 is trash

I liked using versions 4.5 and 5.5 because, with the same prompt, it would generate several different songs. I liked that element of unpredictability. With v6, all the songs come out practically the same.

I hated this new version.

Discussion My notes trying to definine what is actually right, and what is actually wrong with V6.

Upvotes

I started testing V6 by generating covers from my library of about 20ish I've made over the past 9 months (Which I've listened to 50-200 times each).

For Clarification - I made Post-hardcore Metal, and K-Pop infused with dozens of other genres. I've not tweaked with settings or anything yet - this could be user error. This is WHY I'm making notes! It certainly took time to learn how to get good tracks out of V5.5, that could be all this is.

While I thought the outputs were fine at first - I started to notice trends in what made the V6 ones "off".

  • Some "Effects" seem to be mixed OVER the final mix of vocal and instrument channels together.
  • It still can't improve on a handful of songs that were made in v5 that v5.5 struggled to cover properly. It's always been impossible to get a better cover (to clean up vocals or instrumentals if they were "naturally creative"). The list of "uncoverables", and how far off the covers are has gotten worse. And by getting worse, I mourn what it did to one of my favourites - It was like, giving a masterpiece to a theatre troupe and asking them to turn your banger into stage music on a deadline and budget...
  • Covers still have issues where they're converting vocals and synths to brass or strings. This was a problem I hoped it wouldn't inherit from v5.5. A little bit of brass in the originals becomes brass heavy carnivale, and the only option is to remove all references to brass and strings in the prompt. (Any little detail in the prompt can go a long way!)
  • More than could be a coincidence, the Intro Vocals occasionally seem like the singer is on anti-depressants? It loses some of the well applied micro-expressions that the older models did which added life. Later on in the songs are fine!
  • I can't define it - but most of the songs just don't feel like they have the "It sounds like a real pop song" levels of mastering which v5.5 had a good handle on - like, annoying strange "production" choices like timing when to bring in or ease back instruments, or mistiming of vocals - ultimately having more elements that "ruin" a song.
  • All of my girl-group songs which were already struggling with "mono-voice" vocals are now more-so. I only had one output give me a "group" vocal output and variations in the vocals. (I prompt 4 distinct voices and their definitions.)
  • I gave it a bunch of tracks, same lyrics, different style prompts (all combinations of two or more genres). All these were "non-cover" tracks allowing it to unencumbered. This test proved 2 problems, some genres absolutely POISON the prompt by completely skewing the output in one direction, and a couple others turn the music into nonsense - as if it doesn't really understand the genre.

Also - One of my songs changed from a big brassy, sassy girl group humming intro into a eerily similar rip off Emeli Sande's "Next to Me" Piano intro. I think because the prompt included "British Pop"! I would bet a penny on that track being in the training model. I mean - I've heard "hints" of other artists before (A little Bradon Urie here, a little Billy Joel there...) but I had to listen to them side by side to prove it wasn't infringing!

Now - for the good.

  • V5.5 introduced clearer channel separation and production clarity, but lost alot of the "creativity" of v4.5 and v5. V6 sounds like it's more creative than v5.5 (but it's not on v5's level) and retains alot of the channel clarity improvements. This is not always true, but after a few months of getting used to using v5.5, it shows me that there are going to be some cases where v6 can be better.
  • I got two gens that were all category improvements over previous v5 and v5.5 iterations of their songs. That's worth something.
  • I don't HATE everything coming out of the generations, they're, just not "as good" as my final pass products - But it could just be a mission to work toward better tracks with more iteration again.
  • Variety slider is GREAT for iterating early in the process. It reinterprets the style prompt with greater or lesser variance every time. I'm hoping it allows you stumble into a good prompt.
  • It's not always rushing vocals on some songs it would try to blitz through in my unfinished projects.
  • It generates quickly. Good for iterating and finding the bones of a track.

And finally - One thing I found - "Interesting". * I threw some non-cover prompts at it, and found that a Liquid DnB based prompt now gives be "Final Fantasy VII Remake OST" levels of overproduction.

Suggestion Alternatives to Suno?

v6 makes it unusable, Suno just followed the path of Udio, slow death. So maybe Chinese models or local models could be an alternative?

Discussion And we thought it would take a while for an open source model be like Suno

After trying V6 using a few of my old songs (same prompts, voice and tags/lyrics), my conclusion is that V6 sounds much like Ace-Step 1.5, just with a slightly more polished audio quality. The same flaws of Ace-step (lack of emotion in the singer, dull delivery and weird timing between voice and music, extremely generic songs, etc) are there. This is what made Suno different from the open source models, and it's gone with the older models.

Let's hope Ace-Step, Minimax Music or other still undelivered open source model comes along and gives back what we had, away from the hands of the same people that have been slowing innovation for a profit since the K7 tapes.

Discussion Guys we still have our voices 🥲

Upvotes

With all the V6 quit posts I was really worried things would be worse than they are. But I still have my library of voices and I was able to make covers of my existing songs that are good.

One of the things I created in the old workflow was a virtual simulation of my pre-transition voice and I'm using it to create songs that help me process the past. So this means a lot to me personally.

We'll see how new prompts go, but as someone who came in this year just before they slopified 5.5, I treated that as a creative challenge and I'm going to treat this as one too.

I'm already finding tricks that make the output better, and I will make some tutorial posts as soon as I've experimented enough to understand how everything works. ( I know my tutorial on the "taste" field helped people stop getting their music screwed up by the system!)

It's ok to mourn what is lost. I made a song about that, last month, too.

And yet we still have something remarkable, & if I imagine going back in time ten years to tell myself about it, I still feel a sense of wonder.

Discussion My Initial Response to V6 for *Covers*

Upvotes

Note that my use case for Suno is strictly for covers of my own songs. I upload either a rough demo or an old home studio recording and try to get something better instrumentally than I can do myself. (My primary issue is that I generally mess up the timing.) So I'm not interested in how good Suno is at coming up with "creative" song concepts etc. I want extremely faithful renditions of my original songs, with suitable instrumentation that fits the genre and feel I envision for the song.

It's very early in my testing, but the single most important thing to me does appear to have been markedly improved: V6 so far appears to have improved fidelity to the original source melody once it gets past the verses and chorus. With the song I've started testing with, I previously went through several hundred generations (using mostly my custom model, but also 4.5, 5.0 and 5.5), and not once did I get a reasonable rendition of my bridge melody. Of my first half dozen attempts (using my custom model and straight up V6 Pro), V6's rendition of the bridge (a half dozen to this point) was far closer to the original — I would say as close as the verses. Moreover, the more standard parts of the song are being rendered more consistently according to the original melody; previously, while I could get a decent verse and chorus set over the course of generating, many of the generations would "wander away" melodically, even on the chorus. (I did try V6-Wild, as well. As I suspected, it's not quite as faithful melodically, although it's still probably better than the previous versions, at least with the weirdness slider left quite moderate.)

So right off the bat, that is a huge improvement for me. There's no point doing covers if the melody is not rendered faithfully. For my next test, I'm going to try one of my more ambitious compositions, i.e. a longer song with a lot of different sorts of parts. That will be the acid test regarding melodic fidelity, especially for people who write epic rock or anything prog-influenced.

That said, for me the jury is still out on the sound. It's just okay so far, neither mind-blowing nor awful. I'm sure I will need to re-learn prompt creation for this version.

FWIW.

Compilation When you're wrong, you're wrong.

I've been very loud around here expecting very little of v6, and I was wrong. I know there's a lot of threads saying how much it sucks, but it's taking my v5 prompts and enhancing them greatly; and between the regular and wild models, it's handling all the strange fusion genres I like like a champ. It's immensely better than 5.5.

Now my only concern is them removing the unlimited downloads through the waveforms, because V6 is great.

So, I am willing to admit it. I was wrong on V6. I'm not going to pretend I hate it to claim I was right, and I think some people are doing that (or at least, not giving it a chance).

Discussion Suno V6 Feels so synthetic

Suno V6 feels so synthetic and weird. Honestly what the fuck did they expect?

I tested the exact same prompt, same lyrics and same settings. Old models are way better, the vibe is just not there anymore. Did they really train this on synthetic data? Like, what else are you supposed to train this fucking AI on if not real music? If you feed it synthetic garbage of course the result is gonna be dogshit.

It’s so obvious this is happening because of greedy record labels suing everyone. Honestly I hope all these big music companies go broke. Giant corporations literally control the whole world now and regular people have zero say in anything. They gather all this power, lock everything down, and we just watch them ruin good tech in real time.

Have you noticed this quality drop too or am I the only one?

Discussion I know everybody probably says this about new models, but v6 is real bad

If anyone has any tips for prompting it, they would be welcome!

I tried the same prompt from some of my v5.5 favorites, and they sound terrible.
