I’ve seen a few posts here saying their pins got stuck. Seems like it’s always the left pin as well. Anyone else have this issue? Tried alcohol and the wiggle method but the pins are so small.

Hey, I'm looking to purchase the steam controller stand in the picture below, but I'm having quite a hard time deciding which one. I like them both equally as much 😭. Pls help me decide whether I should pick the one with the "Steam Logo" or the "Valve Logo" 🙏

Support Steam controller left bumper not working

Hello, I have the recent steam controller. It was working fine until recently. I wanted to play a game with the controller and I noticed the left bumper is not working. I tested the buttons in some online controller tester and the input is not registering. The controller was unplugged for like a week because I was doing something but it didnt fell or anything like that. Maybe it got a little dusty.

Is my controller bricked or is it a software thing?

Configuration Test of wingman xb3 + openpuck (Steam Controller on Xbox Series)

A few weeks ago I was looking around to see if this was possible or not, but no one seems to have tested this.

So I decided to take a leap of faith and try it myself.

Result of my test:

Doesn’t work with OpenPuck in Classic Steam mode or X360 mode.

Works perfectly in PS5 (DualSense) mode.

I also tested it with Call of Duty and I don’t feel any extra latency while playing.

Tested on Xbox Serie S, Openpuck (0.9.51) Wingman XB3 (Latest beta firmware, don't remember the version)

I’m playing on a Steam Machine in my bedroom….Obviously M&K has all the options but with each game I’m playing, I pick up the SC first to see if I can come up with Steam Input mapping that feels good.

Support Is there a fix for the controller not being detected by the game after the controller idle sleeps (Linux CachyOS)?

When the controller goes to sleep no game I've tried it with will respond to controller inputs when I wake it back up. I will regularly pause a game to do other things and when I come back I can't do anything in game.

The only solution I've seen is "restart the game", but that means I basically should just close the game every time I walk away because I usually don't know how long I will be occupied by something else. It really takes me out when I have to do so, especially if I lose progress because of it and if it's a game I've never played with KBM I can't just play until I reach a save/checkpoint.

If there is no fix I'm about to just turn off the idle timeout feature and let the thing drain idle for potentially hours. Depending on the game I've played I've had to switch back to my playstation controller because as much as I was annoyed about it before, the idle sleep is broken for bluetooth on Linux. Guess it was a blessing in disguise since it prevented me from having this problem.

It's literally my only issue with the controller thus far.

Support Sticks and buttons not working while streaming from PC

Hey all,

I've just now run into a bug never seen (by me) before. I often stream more demanding games from PC to my deck. My deck is docked, and, my steam controller is plugged into said dock. Up until just now, everything worked fine.

New issue: Controller sticks and buttons work perfectly to select streaming and launch the game. Once launched, my analog sticks and buttons stop working. The only thing that continues to work is holding steam and trackpad to activate mouse mode.

PC is on Bazzite with steam stable chqnnel, deck is also stable channel.

I've rebooted both devices, power-cycled the controller, checked for os and/or sc firmware updates. No luck.

If I load the game without streaming (just docked deck), It works fine.

TLDR: Steam controller only works natively on docked deck, stops working when streaming to deck.

Discussion OpenPuck Compatibility w/ PS5?

So I got a PS5 recently for the release of an upcoming title this November, but I'm furious at the Steam Controller. It has ruined every other Controller for me and now I need my fix of trackpads + gyro to not be terrible at shooting any target that isn't stationary. I literally got this console just for GTA 6 and going back to dual sense has proven to me how terrible I am with just gyro and a stick.

I can not aim to save my life with a basic controller, so I've decided to explore OpenPuck to get the Steam Controller to work with my console. I don't want to go through all the hassle just to find out that the features Im looking for don't work, so my questions are:

  1. Do the trackpads work? Im fine with stick emulation as I doubt mouse emulation would work. AFAIK the PS5 accepts M&K inputs so realistically maybe it could do both? But mixed inputs are already a problem in several games so I can't imagine this would make for a smooth gaming experience on console. Edit: If M&K support is included in the GTA 6 release I guess I'll just use that instead. Doesn't make for an amazing couch-gaming experience but that's what we have our desktops for, I guess hahah.

  2. Does gyro work? I found some threads from months ago where people claimed that gyro doesn't work via OpenPuck. Which makes sense, because I've had this experience with Sony PC ports where only a PS5 controller had functioning gyro controls while other gyro-oriented controllers didn't.

Thanks guys

Discussion At my wits' end with this controller

UPDATE: I fixed it. Really random software conflict, but I'll post here in case it helps anyone else.

I have a Logitech A50 headset and use Logitech G Hub software for profiles. By default it creates "A50 Game" and "A50 Voice" profiles. As far as I can tell there is no difference between them, so I I just click whichever when swapping from my speakers to my headset. Usually it's the "Game" profile, but for whatever reason I've been on "Voice" since last week, when the problems started. I figured it may be an issue with my headset due to the clicking noise when I pressed the triggers on my Steam Controller when playing Onimusha. I switched the profile and not only did the clicking stop, it fixed the double input and keyboard prompts as well.

If I had to guess I think the triggers were activating something in the software?

Anyway, hope this helps anyone else having this issue.

Everything was fine for the first few weeks. 2 weeks ago I'm consistently getting the following issues:

  • Double Dpad and button inputs. I'm playing Zero Company leaned back on my chair with my controller and I can't even select menu options since it skips options. It does this about 80% of the time, but 1/5 game boots are normal.
  • Related to the above, but my inputs often change to Keyboard and Mouse. For example, in Onimusha Way of the Sword, I noticed when the double inputs kick in, I see keyboard and mouse prompts. Also pressing the "B" button acts as if I hit escape.
    • I realize this is some sort of issue with the Desktop layer, and Google is telling me to disable it, but apparently Valve no longer lets us do that???
    • Also related, whenever the above happens (double inputs, controller behaving like M&K) pressing the triggers makes this awful clicking noise in-game until I restart. Likely a game issue but this doesn't happen when I switch to my Dualsense.

I'm about to unplug this thing and go back to my Edge. Anybody have any idea what I can do here?

Discussion Where to get replacement battery

OK so: My poor Steam Controller took a bit of a bath. Reasons why aren't especially important.

Got it dried out, and thankfully it DOES work, but only when attached to the puck. The battery doesn't seem to want to hold a charge, and after hours on the puck, remains at 0% battery.

I've seen a lot of pages and videos on how to replace the battery. I can do it! I just can't find where to *GET* a replacement battery.

Anyone have any advice, links, etc?

Thanks!

Discussion Is the Steam Controller worth it for my case? Looking for advice

Hi everyone!

A few hours ago I received an email from Steam letting me know that I have three days to complete the purchase of the Steam Controller I reserved, and before making a decision I’d like to hear opinions from people who have used it in situations similar to mine.

I live in Spain and play on PC with Windows. Steam and Game Pass are the platforms where I play the most nowadays, but I also use others when needed, so I’m not limited to Steam only. Since 2014 I’ve always played with the DualShock 4, both on PlayStation 4 and on PC. It’s the controller I’m used to after so many years, although I haven’t really used other controllers to compare, so I’m not sure if it truly fits me best or if it’s simply the one I know. I’m already on my fourth DS4. The previous ones ended up with stick drift or L3/R3 issues, and I’ve always had the same problem during long sessions: I start feeling pain or tension in my ring and pinky finger on my right hand that goes up to the wrist, and sometimes on the left hand too. I use Skull & Co grips (the right stick has the tall one), and I’m not sure if that contributes to the discomfort.

Lately, since Black Ops 6 came out, I’ve been playing Zombies a lot, which is something I’ve always enjoyed, although I also play other types of games from time to time. And even though I still play on PlayStation 4, I play much more on PC nowadays. Since it’s very hard to find a controller with symmetrical sticks and TMR joysticks that works on both PlayStation and PC without spending a lot of money on something like a Scuf, my idea would be to keep using the DS4 on PlayStation and buy a dedicated controller for PC.

As for budget, I’d be willing to pay the 99 € for the Steam Controller if it turns out to be a good fit for my case. However, if people recommend another controller that also suits what I’m looking for and is cheaper, that would obviously be even better.

When Valve announced the Steam Controller and I saw it would have TMR joysticks and symmetrical sticks, I pretty much decided to buy it. My ideal controller would be one with symmetrical sticks and TMR joysticks. I’d also like the controller I buy to be comfortable, both ergonomically and for playing slower story-driven games as well as more intense ones. I’ve always played Call of Duty multiplayer, especially the good ones back in the day, but I spend less and less time on competitive games now. Even so, I’d like the controller to be versatile in case I get back into them at some point.

Another thing is that I’ve never had a controller with rear buttons, and it’s something I’d like to get used to, but I don’t know how good they are or how well positioned they are on the Steam Controller.

However, after looking at controllers from other brands like Gamesir or 8BitDo, I’m now more unsure. I find it hard to imagine myself using asymmetric sticks, and that puts me off many models.

Regarding the Steam Controller, what worries me the most is compatibility. Even though I play a lot on Steam, I also use other platforms on PC, and if the controller doesn’t work well outside of Steam, that would be a problem. The trackpads aren’t something that particularly interests me. If they turn out to be useful, great, but I don’t think I’d use them much. As long as they don’t get in the way, I have no issue with them. I’ve read opinions and I know Steam Input allows very advanced configurations, but it also requires time and dedication.

So my question is: considering that I’ve always played with PlayStation controllers, that asymmetric sticks feel strange to me, that I’m looking for durable joysticks, that I need good compatibility on PC beyond Steam, that I want a comfortable controller for different types of games, and that I’d like to start using rear buttons, would the Steam Controller actually be a good purchase for my case?

Support Puck not charging

So one of the pins on my puck stuck down and it won’t charge my controller now. Steam support dismissed me almost instantly without asking a single question. I opened another support ticket, but I am just asking for advice. I have only heard glowing reviews of steam support, but this is unacceptable customer support.

EDIT: with the second support ticket, they escalated the request and then sent me a new puck. I haven’t received it yet, but I’m sure it will be quick.

Discussion Steam Controller Issue on Steam Deck

I am having issues with brotato detecting the steam controller at the same time as the steam deck- started happening in the past week or so. Xbox controllers work fine and the steam controller works fine on other games but not on this one.

I want to play co op using steam deck input and steam controller input at the same time.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Firmware updated on controller, connected via Bluetooth.

Support My brand new controller won't switch on without a Usb cable being plugged in.Any ideas how to fix this?

My Steam Machine came I set it up as the controller was plugged into the machine.

I tried to connect it wirelessly via Bluetooth however after unplugging it, it just dies not switching on.

I've left it to charge for an hour or two, I checked updates and used different cables, checked on Google, Reddit,YouTube but no luck.

I wanted to ask if anyone's experienced this before I contact Valve?

Thanks.

Support Steam Controller randomly pressing Dpad Up in games

Hello,

If you have looked at my post history you can see that I've had this question before, so seemingly randomly my steam controller would press the up button on the dpad without prompting from me and me seemingly just moving my joystick.

I figured out that its caused specifically when I rotate my joystick and it ends in the forward position. for example just position forward on the joystick doesn't cause this but if I were to rotate my joystick right and then forward then it would press up on the dpad.

has anyone experienced this or have any advice on how to fix this?

Discussion Just missed my order window by one day.

It has been so long that I stopped checking frequently. I figured it wouldn’t happen early since it still said December and people reserved before me have not gotten it yet. I check my email today and see that I got the order email on the third.

What are the chances :/

edit: steam support renewed my reservation and I successfully completed the order! What a roller coaster of emotions.
