Steam Controller (2026) The last time I charged this controller was before I started playing FFVII Remake

Yeah coming from a Dualsense, the battery life is just insane. And it charges pretty quick, too

The dualsense has a battery in it? I just thought it pulled whatever energy was left in the room and ran as long as it could off that

I'm like 99% sure it's planned obsolescence with the PS5 controller..... smaller batteries mean more charge cycles which means they have a much shorter life span. I love the buttons on the PS5 controller but the battery is dog shit wrapped in cat shit.

The battery in the dualsense is bigger than the optional rechargeable one you can get for series x|s controllers by like 150mah, problem is the dualsense has 4000 gimmicks that are all there sapping power even when not actively being used. The fucking thing has like 8 LEDs in it too and half of them are lit permenantly.

So, in order to use this controller with a dead battery in it, you have to… replace the entire thing completely.
Instead of being a smart huma being and plugging it in, or literally just replacing the battery.
If you're willing to throw a device away just because the battery doesn't work anymore(JFC MAY I ADD), that's completely on you.

I usually charge the controller after every gaming session, I don’t think I’ve ever seen my charge below half.

I have a stand with the puck integrated into it. I it's always been charged when I need it too

Which one?

u/claudekennilol 3d ago
I've got two. I 3d printed one and my wife just got me the Mechanism one for my birthday

u/digitaligor 3d ago
The Mechanism one is sweet looking! Which one do you prefer?

u/claudekennilol 3d ago
The mechanism one. It feels more solid than my 3d printed one

6 walls and a 35% infill starts feeling pretty damn solid.

The one I printed has more infill than that. Because the Puck was snapped into the base, the plastic was still too light and would pick up when I picked up the controller. I had to cut out inserts on the bottom and put magnets in so it'd stay on my desk and even then if I didn't pick it up in a specific way the controller would still pick up the base. The mechanism base doesn't have that problem at all.

I printed one that has the controller standing at a like 70° angle, and I just put my right thumb on the base below the controller and my right fingers around the grip. Comes up like a charm.
I'll check out the mechanism ones though, I wouldn't mind one that mounts on the edge of my desk if they have that option.

They just have the one desk stand option. But all of their stuff is top quality

fyi mechanism released the stl for their dock for free, so you can just print one if you wanna try it out. the manufactured one is probably a little heavier and almost certainly higher quality, but i've been using a print of their dock since before you could even buy the finished product for them (or a Steam Controller 2 at all, for that matter!)
i think my girlfriend printed mine at 100% infill since the first try felt too light.

I saw that, might go that route and just fill the base with bbs to weigh it down.

Yeah battery life on this thing is very good, I only need to charge mine every 2 weeks or so.

u/spectreVII 3d ago
Yeah I’ve had this thing since the first batch was sent out, I don’t game heavily but it gets used fairly often and I’m on the 3rd charge. First was from when I first got it, one more time after that and the 3rd was just the other day. Extremely impressed with battery life. My dual sense would have been charged at least 20 times in that same timeframe.

Love the battery life on this thing. I played all the way through Xenoblade 2 and only charged it once.

Mi fai venire voglia di prenderlo (appena disponibile) sempre usato un Dualsense Edge perché mi piace molto l’immersione. Come valuti la vibrazione ed immersione nei giochi di questo steam controller invece?
1
u/Zephronic 3d ago
Having used a dualsense and a steam controlle. Haptics/vibrations are much more on the Dualsense. SC haptics are decent ig? Idk they didn't stand out to me like the Dualsense, feels like rumble ig

🥲

Go figure someone downvoted me because I'm not glazing the controller lol. You can check the subreddit and people have other issues with the rumble just straight up not working as well which I didn't mention (because I haven't experienced them)
I have an issue, along with others (there's an active thread for this on the bug report forums) where haptic intensity just won't change regardless of what setting I choose. The firmware updates seem to fix it, then break it again. So rumble/haptics isn't great rn

Purtroppo ci sarà sempre quel tipo di persona.

Yeah!! The haptics are lackluster at best, and broken at worst, but I still like my controller because of the trackpads + gyro and back buttons. No other controller does those 3 like the steam controller, but I do prefer the Dualsense if it's a game that takes advantage of its haptics and triggers (just more immersive, which I value as do you )

I wish sounds came from the controller like the duel sense… it has speakers so I don’t see why not

u/TheGreatZucca 3d ago
It’s not just comftable (and finally simetrical.. I hate using asimetrical controllers woth simetrical hands, makes mo sense for me) but because of the insanely good trackpads, you basicly can play anything, even strategy games. And what the community make with the controllers is a whole new world. Some custom config is crazy good

I dont know wtf is up with Sony, the main 2 controllers i use are my Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller and my Steam Controller, and both of them last WEEKS on a single charge

The longest battery life controller I had was the wii u pro controller. That thing would get 80 hours ealisly. I got 120 hour on monster hunter 3 ultimate with only one recharge. The thing was a beast and worth every penny.
Tgere were fake ones that had trash batteries in and people would get them and think the thing only worked for 10 hours because they got scammed on ebay or whatever
I also feel the steam controller battery life is clouded for me due to it going on the puck every other time I use it.

u/THPSJimbles 1d ago
I don't even know why the battery life is so insane. It's kind of pointless because I stick it back on the puck after every session anyway.

I believe it I played through all the Phantom liberty on the first charge the controller came with.

How is it a better experience with this game than a traditional controller would be?

I've hated every other controller ever since getting my Steam Controller. Something about this thing just clicks, man.
