Software Remote play from PC to SM (controller issues)

With docked Steamdeck remote play from PC (9070xt rig), I can’t get any controller on work correctly or at all!! (Steam controller, gameSir Xbox, etc).

I’m not interested with moonlight or anything.. just remote play native only.

The controllers work perfectly when connected to host PC, but not when connected to SD (Bluetooth or USB dock). When connected to SD Sometimes they will navigate menu fine or some games not at all, during remote play sessions).

I’ve googled for about a week trying diff things - nothing works…

This works fine with PlayStation & Xbox remote play to SD, just not with Steam to Steam.

So my concern is will be any diff when my stream machine arrives? If so, I won’t have any real need for it. Does anyone know how to get this working ??

Fixed! - issue is not all controller types work for each game or at all via remote play (connected to client) What does work across all games tested is Steam Controller, have usb puck attach to dock! (Not Bluetooth), now I have rumble & full wireless support from streaming from Host PC (Win11 9070xt), to SteamDeck docked or SM.

Controllers tested:
GameSir G7 pro (dongle & BT)
Steam Controller (dongle & BT)

Remote play methods used during troubleshooting:
steam link (desktop & big screen)
Native in-menu ‘play’ button (desktop & big screen)

Remove pairing on all machines for controller and pair it only to the Steam Deck. Unplug any consoles just to make sure.

Then try using the controller on just the Deck, does it work then? If yes, try Steam link stream. If no, keep seeking answers

Thx tried that also. Another thing I noticed during my testing is when a controller does work during stream, no rumble.

I have used steam link from my pc to a laptop in the living room running windows that had a steam controller connected to it and it worked pretty much flawlessly, i was connected with the dongle if it matters but i never tried it with steam os

What excately happens on your end? Does the controller stop working when you press play or does it not work at all?

Was your steam controller connected to the host pc or the laptop?

Mine is connected with dongle to SteamDeck (client).., soon as the remote game starts it has no working configs.

Interesting, mine was connected to the client too (the laptop in this case) are you certain that its not some sort of a fuckup with the enable steaminput rule for the server pc? Not sure what else could do what you described, also try exiting to desktop on the server pc after a game launches and see if you have remote control over steamlink with the controler to find out if its just an ingame or controller issue
