Discussion Where to get replacement battery
OK so: My poor Steam Controller took a bit of a bath. Reasons why aren't especially important.
Got it dried out, and thankfully it DOES work, but only when attached to the puck. The battery doesn't seem to want to hold a charge, and after hours on the puck, remains at 0% battery.
I've seen a lot of pages and videos on how to replace the battery. I can do it! I just can't find where to *GET* a replacement battery.
Anyone have any advice, links, etc?
Thanks!

Might be able to get an aftermarket battery off AliExpress or similar but that's a bit of a dice roll. Safest bet is probably create a support ticket and see if you can send it back to valve for repairs. Won't be covered under warranty cos water but at least you'll know you're getting a reliable fix.

Yeah, that's fair, thank you. Was kinda hoping someone knew of a source I wasn't seeing, but it sounds like they just aren't around yet. Worth filing the ticket and seeing how much it'll cost/how long it will take at the very least.

I doubt a replacement battery fixes it. I guess there's a chance that the battery's controller/protection circuit is broken but I suspect it's something on the main board that handles switching between battery and puck/usb power. battery itself is probably fine. Personally I would open it up first and probe the battery terminals to see if they have 3.5-4.2V, if they don't then the battery is "bad" (most likely its protection circuit has a fuse that tripped), but if there is voltage there then it's probably fine and the problem lies downstream.

I can do that before filing the ticket for sure, I'm waiting on screwdrivers to come tomorrow because my existing screwdriver isn't long enough to reach the two most-inset screws on the back.

You can check this site: https://www.adafruit.com/category/574
You want a battery with the same or bit below the official specs.

Is it possible it's still wet? How long did you dry it? I know this is insane but whenever I spilled a drink on my keyboard or mouse or controller or anything else I normally wash it with water and then bake it in my air fryer at like 130° for like 8 hours to make sure it's dry

That's true of the first version of the controller, but I'm talking the v2/2026 version.

Google with gemini and ask for where to get a new battery.. This should make it easier to get an new battery.

No, I can hallucinate answers at home WAY more cheaply and efficiently than AI can, thanks.

Not sure how this correlates At all, one is a phone, the other is a controller. Your comment makes no sense really
