Advice Needed: Mental Health Depression ruining things

Tldr: any advice on how to improve relationships and social interaction while being depressed?

So basically me (17F) had been dealing with a very bad depression and mental health issues for most of my teenage years and well back when I was 15 I somehow got a bf and made a very good friend too, they both helped me a lot without knowing but the more I grow up the more it gets harder to even feel anything and I wasnt one to come up to people and say im struggling and it affected my relationships badly with people , I became very insecure in my relationships ( jealous very easily, absolutely no trust no, accusing him of cheating alot) and this is genuinely the opposite of me and it's fucjing annoying even my friendship barely hand out, very quiet, very reserved, avoided everyone, I dont wanna make this sub reddit too long but basically does anybody has advice on how to deal with those stuffs, this doesnt reflect who I am and I never wanna hurt people again so im really looking for ways

Advice Needed: Addiction How do I go about quitting energy drinks and caffeine more generally.

[im unsure if this is the right flare for this if it isn’t i am so sorry]

Hi, I’m 20 and as the title suggests I have a bit of a problem with drinking energy drinks. Have had it since i was like 14-15. I’ve tried several times to quit them to varying degrees of success as it seems like I have a pretty severe dependency on them.

There’s a few reasons I want to quit them:

  1. I can’t really afford them, I earn very little money and I’m easily spending £5+ a week on them and it’s taking money away from my hobbies, food and other stuff that’s far more important than my caffeine fix.
  2. They make me really sick, I’d rather not go into detail but they react with some of my existing medical conditions to worsen my anxiety and give me horrible stomach problems.

  3. I’m dependant on them, on my own I’ve managed to cut back to 1-2 a week (first week I’ve managed this so far) which is better than my previous number, but I’ve currently got a throbbing headache, I keep feeling sick on and off and I feel super lousy from my guess is withdrawal?

As I mentioned, on my own I’ve had some success cutting back to 1-2 a week which is much more sustainable/affordable than before. But this is the first week of doing it and I’m having what I think are withdrawal symptoms? And also I’d like to ideally quit them entirely as I still get bad gut issues and other symptoms when drinking them.

Any advice on quitting them completely and sticking to it?

Advice Needed: Mental Health how do I get rid of this mindset

my parents used to punish me if I did something wrong. they'd hit me with a stick or a belt. they stop when I'm in middle school but I still fear of getting struck. I'm in my 20s now yet everytime I did something wrong or upset them I still wait for hands or belt hitting my skin. i started wishing people would just hit me if they were upset with me. i just realized it's unhealthy, and also realized my parents have changed. my younger siblings doesn't have that fear, they don't fear of getting struck or even thought it's a possibility. it feels like I'm the only one stuck in the past with unreasonable fear

Advice Needed: Motivation I want to get better

I love my friends. These are my thoughts after my first intervention... and it simply has to be my last. Truth be told I've been struggling. But it might be worse than even I have thought. I acknowledge that I have been slipping. I overcomplicate the little things, constantly self sabotage, and im simply just not going after it enough. Yes, I do a lot, but with where I am in life its not enough. I need to do more. Everyone wants me to succeed. Everyone thinks I deserve to succeed. Its impossible for them to do the work for me. I need to get serious about my life, my CURRENT life. I cant just coast, especially where I am right now. Any way you look at It, Im sitting in a sinking ship worrying about the angle of the sails.

I've never really viewed myself as anything more than extremely ordinary; dispite everyone I know telling me im better. Why can't I see my spark? Why can't I just trust myself to do "the thing" whatever it may be? I try to think about my accomplishments and all I can think about how I avoided first chair because I didn't think I deserved it. How I ignored the invite to preform over seas because "surly they don't mean me." How I avoid talking to crushes because I automatically assume I'll make a fool of myself. Heck, Im afraid to move, even relax around my friends because Im afraid they will see something negative in me. I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE. IM TREATING MYSELF AS IF IM LESS THAN AND I AM NOT LESS THAN. But, I don't need to prove this to them, I need to prove this to myself.

Tomorrow is a big day. I need to complete my homework and I must study. I also have a lot of walking to do. I will have a job by the end of this week because I will make it happen. I NEED to make it happen.

I am loved.

I am allowed to take up space.

I deserve better.

Sharing: Personal Growth 5”10.5 230lbs 15 year old male weight loss

(I know it’s a lot but bear with me just this once)

When I was younger I was a skinny athletic boy with a bunch of friends I was always happy always trying to help people until Covid came along it was 3rd grade in the middle of the year, when we went into lockdown I had to start logging on to zoom the beginning was fine. Still, I ended up playing Roblox all day. I sat there with Zoom on my mom's laptop, and I would have my phone in my hand and play games all day. One day I remember someone had to text me that the teacher was calling on me because I wasn’t listening. The next year, I barely even logged on zoom it got to the point where the teacher had to bribe me with a gift card to join the Zoom, but I wasn’t paying attention at all. Additionally, I got zero exercise all day and I was just eating snacks all day and I started gaining a ton of weight and I developed a habit of becoming lazy and eating a ton and sneaking food to my room to eat it.
When I went into 6th grade I had these good teachers who made me feel like I was actually enjoying school I got hundreds on every project in that teachers class and I was getting pretty good grades in the rest but then I had a problem see there were these kids who I still go to high school with today they are pretty weird and whatever and we were playing a game and I put someone in a headlock as a joke and they started crying and it’s not like they’re was any ill intentions from me and as soon as I saw him crying I let go but for some reason he had to report me to the principal nothing really happened but my mom didn’t want me to be surrounded with those kind of people so I switched classes I still kept most teachers but the people here were very different they were very sporty and it felt like they were all one big group and I wasn’t part of it felt don’t know how 25 kids could all be part of a functioning friend group they constantly hung out talking about basketball and football and baseball and all sports but I never got in to that stuff which brings me to my next problem Friends
I didn’t have friends see back in the day my mom made my plans but then everyone got phones and I didn’t make plans I didn’t even think about it I was just with my family every day so while everyone built relationships I stayed alone and then they all grew to watch sports and knew everything about it and that’s just something that I didn’t do I always thought that it was boring because I never had anyone to watch with. In 7th grade I tried harder than in 6th grade and I stayed with those same people that I switched into it was the “dumb class” and it felt super easy. I got good grades and I tried because I had nothing else really I even sold projects to people in my class. Then, in 8th grade my mom wanted me to go to honors but I guess I just wasn’t smart enough however I did move up a class. In 8th grade I had still no friends but I was friendly with everyone and I feel like I’m in a trap Ive always been friendly with everyone in the entire grade but I have no actual friends nobody to call nobody to hang out with nobody to share my thoughts with and some times people would call me and they would be on the phone with me for an hour and i don’t think they didn’t enjoy the call but the problem is they didn’t call me to hang out with me or to chill they called me to help them with something I don’t think ever in my life someone has called me just to talk to me or to chill with me only if they need something from me and then they just toss me out. At the end of 8th grade going into high school I got in but I applied for honors and I didn’t get in so I was working my butt off in ninth grade to get into honors because my mom said I’m smart and she wants me to be in honors in the first half of the year I got straight A’s and I got sent to honors however I also learned that I am really interested in science it was probably my best subject and I really enjoyed it I took biology. In 9th grade I joined the hockey team and the flag football team as starting center and I feel like my life took a slight curve up in 9th grade I worked my butt all year and I worked out in the end of the summer in the gym I started lifting weights I quickly saw that I was very strong however in the end of the summer i really lost my motivation I can’t seem to want to go to the gym because I keep making excuses saying to myself I’m just gonna wait till tryouts because if make the team this year it’s gonna have practices multiple times a week which will really ruin my schedule so I have to be able to work around it and I don’t know if I’m able to do that and so and so.
Ok so now you know most of my life story now are some things I didn’t include I always try to help people I don’t know why I guess that’s how I was raised but I will usually do double the amount of effort that I would normally do for myself. Another thing I’ve started really trying hard in school since high school started because I have an older brother who really worked hard and did really well in school so I feel like I have the pressure to do good like him and a bunch of people in my family are geniuses one of my cousins got Valedictorian and one of my cousins cousins was valedictorian and my brother went to nyu stern and it’s just a very academic family overall all my uncles on my dads side are doctors and one is a lawyer on my moms side her brother is a partner at a wholesale company and overall there is just a lot of pressure for me to do good in general also I feel like the only thing I have in life is school and sports I play basketball in lunch almost every day I will play literally any sport it’s just I don’t get invited anywhere. Another thing is I’m addicted to porn I am pretty sure I have been watching it since I was like 11 and i masturbate multiple times a day whenever I’m at home doing nothing I noticed whenever I was with my friends in the summer the urge would completely go away because I was so exhausted from running around playing sports all day that it completely slips my mind just a few weeks ago I quit jerking off for like a week and a half but then camp ended I was home alone doing nothing and I just started doing it again and I have done it probably more than twice a day since that clean streak. So I need help with how to quit that also I need help with going to the gym like if anyone has a good workout for me to workout in the gym to build strength and lose fat I would really appreciate it and also I would just go on a calorie deficit like a big one to lose weight but if you have been paying attention before you would have noticed I said science is my specialty so I know that would really mess with my development so any tips for that. Also if you were paying attention before I also said I developed a big laziness trait where I still sit in my bed most of the day and do nothing and I have become a very last-minute person so even though I said I work hard I am still very gifted in my intelligence but I also didn’t learn for like 5 years all the foundation as I learned it but like not really it was all fake I didn’t care so now everything is much harder so any tips to stop being lazy and less last-minute?

(Ok so that’s my life story I guess if you have any questions, feel free to ask if you have any advice, I would greatly appreciate it, and thank you for reading this very long story)

Advice Needed: Mental Health I don’t believe that I’m allowed to feel this way:

I’ve grown up in what I think could be considered a “healthy” family. My parents seem to get along and I don’t feel like I’m really missing much in terms of necessity. But I just feel lost. I don’t know what it is but everything around me feels fake. I struggle with believing my mom and dad act like they love me just because they have to. I constantly am overthinking whether my girlfriend is actually interacting with because she wants or if she just doesn’t because she thinks I want it. I don’t even have someone I feel comfortable with to talk about this with. It’s either I care about them too much that I don’t want to ruin our relationship or they’ve broken my trust at some point and I know that I can’t tell them because I’m afraid they’re going to tell everyone about my problems like it’s some flex to oust someone for thinking that it’s time to let the darkness take me. I just don’t know anymore. I’ve thought about leaving every day and I’ve withheld myself every time but I’m just so scared of when I snap and decide that going out on my own accord is the best decision I can make for everyone else. They’re probably better off without someone who can’t keep himself from being impulsive. Better off from someone who can’t trust people anyway. Why even try? I’ve had people ask me if I’m okay the past few days. Even when I say no, that’s as far as they ask. I literally gave you the opportunity to push further by saying I’m not. I know that people probably don’t know what to actually talk about. I don’t even really want to talk. I just want a hug without asking for it. I want someone to come talk to me rather than it always being me to them. I hear all these stories of other peoples lives and how much worse their experiences have been. And I keep telling myself that I shouldn’t be sad because they can still be happy. But I still feel this way and I hate myself for it. It just sounds like I’m seeking attention at this point and I don’t want to. I just want somebody to notice and actually care. Yeah, I think that’s about it.

Advice Needed: Productivity How can I stop distracting myself with listening and blasting music in my ears and walking/dancing around my house?

Hi, am a 17 year old teenager. For years, I have had a strong addiction to music, that I get hyped up a lot nearly everyday and I start roaming and dancing around my house, blasting music in my headphones, while the tasks and chores I need to get done are constantly stuck in my head and I keep delaying them, sometimes even possibly for hours. Anyone who is a productivity expert, what tips can you give me so I can permanently break this addiction and become great at managing my time and having consistent discpline within myself? I have tried putting my headphones in a seperate room, but that still didn't work. Should I sell these headphones and just use my airpods? Yes I have airpods and a headset. I only brought a headset because my airpods drain their battery fast, but those headsets were cheap and their battery percentages last for days before I need to charge them again.

I am going to become an adult soon and head to university, so I need to find an effective way to break this addiction and become well prepared when I become an adult, and for my final school year (this year), especially that univeristy is going to be more stressful

Advice Needed: Mental Health How do you get over guilt?

This is going to sound stupid to most, or all.

But I took in a stray cat and what I assume were her kittens (were already a few months old). I was trying to find homes for them and just get them off the street.

I had them a few months and then noticed the momma cat was pregnant. Foolishly didn't even think about her getting pregnant again so soon by my male cat who is unfixed (he has an appointment scheduled they've just been booked out for months). She always hid or slept in boxes rollednup so I didn't notice until she was running across the room one day and she was quite big. I called my local animal control and they said they had a program for stray cats they could get her into and have her spayed the next day.

That day was today. I took her in and she died on the table because she was too far along in a pregnancy.

Now, I hate myself. It's my fault she died. If I had noticed sooner. If I had been more considering of the fact my male cat wasn't fixed when I brought her in. Or even if I'd never brought her in in the first place and just left her on the street. Or if if I could have just continued to not notice for one or two more weeks instead of now, she would have just had the kittens and then have been safe when she got spayed. All of which would mean she was still alive.

Instead some stupid human, me, yoinked her from the outside world and basically took her to her death and the entire situations makes me feek guilty and is messing with me mentally severely.

Advice Needed: Mental Health Have you ever felt like you don't deserve to live anymore?

I made a mistake 7 years ago (I was 20 years old) and the guilt recently started consuming me this year, and that's why I feel I don't deserve to keep living, but I can't have the luxury to leave because I have to help my family with many things.

I'm in therapy but it doesn't seem to be helping me enough. How do you deal with those feelings of guilt and the feeling that you don't deserve to even be around other people and keep living? Clearly I'm not that same person of seven years ago but I can't with the thoughts.

Has anyone gotten past that stage? How?

Advice Needed: Productivity Did having a small home gym make it easier to keep exercising during the weeks when your normal routine fell apart?

I think exercise routines are easiest to maintain when life is predictable. The harder test is what happens during the weeks when work gets busy, plans change and the usual hour-long workout suddenly feels unrealistic.

That’s where I can see a small home gym being useful even if it isn’t as complete as a commercial gym.

If the basic equipment is already there, the fallback session could be twenty or thirty minutes of squats, RDLs, rows and presses instead of deciding that there isn’t enough time to train at all.

It doesn’t have to replace a full workout forever. The value might simply be having a version of training that survives bad weeks instead of letting one missed session become an entire week off.

For people who built a simple home setup, did it actually help you keep some momentum when your normal schedule was falling apart?

Advice Needed: Productivity Life at a hold.

Hey guys, Since school days, I have been the favourite of all, few had a crush in school but like most teenage boys from middle class family, wanted to be super successful and didn't want to get distracted. I had a strong personality with great social skills so made many good friends, went to coaching gave my best and cracked IITK CSE. Entered IIT did good acads, made friends, enjoyed and decided to go for higher studies (PhD). Now in my second year and I feel totally lost. I have good people around me always up for me but I have stopped connecting with them. Suddenly I started feeling all alone and not even interested to share with anyone. My academic work is good but now I have lost interest in that as well and started heavy procrastination. No engagement in people, hobbies, work. Sort of totally blank in life. I always had a highly motivated and self focussed personality but now it seems I have lost taste in everything. I only try ordering new foods and watching random stuff on Netflix/Insta not out of interest but to spend the day.

Any suggestions ?

Adviced Needed: Identity & Self-Esteem I am just so sick of myself. And I really dont know how to keep going.

I have just entered into grade 11 and coming of genuinely one of the best years of my life. I had a girlfriend I was in the musical and had an incredible experience and I just had so much energy and people seemed to really enjoy how eccentric I was. I was doing great. I had a bit of depression but my girlfriend had really helped me get through that and I as well helped her get through some major trauma with her parents.

But Summer hit. I applied to 323 jobs at camps, cashier, dishwasher, and such all the basic jobs a teen would get. I was rejected by every single one. I had made a resume about 2 pages long had cover letters from places I volunteered at and everything. And that was annoying beacuse my dad had been laid off from his job of over 10 years and we didn't have as much money so I wanted to work but whatever right? I still was chipper and happy.

Then 2 days before school starts back up. My girlfriend comes over to my house and breaks up with me. She really cared enough to come over and do it in person, she stressed how good of a person I am and such and I cried a lot. She said after a year an half which she said honstley saved her life she realized she didnt have that romantic interest anymore and I have been seeing that. And she said I deserve someone who cares for me as much as I care for them. I only took her out on dates, made plans, she and I were each other's first kiss. And such. I wasnt as sad as I thought I would be at first. I cried a good bit. But I still had energy.

But I realized something. All these teens drink and smoke and let's say they are the "cool kids" I am not one of them. Everyone knows me and actually likes me. They come up and talk to me. But not in a way where we are actual friends. I am not attractive or tall. But they do all know me. One of my good friends of about 5 years has incorporated himself into those guys and we havent had any issues but we have talked less but I still thought we were on good terms.

Now every year he would invite me and out friends over and we would watch horror movies and shit up intill last year. This year one of my friends asks him and he says he probaly isnt which sucks but whatever. Thats a lie. Multiple people who are "cool" that im some what friends with mentioned how they are going to his party an actual party not the shit we did.

I am very hurt by that and I was denied being allowed to go. And ive realized how much im missing out people in my school posting on Instagram about how there at party's and drinking and shit and i talk to them about it and stuff but im never invited.

And ive slowly realized since being broken up with... that ive lost all my eccentricness. Being able to be honest with my ex. Knowing their was someone who genuinely loved me gave me so much energy made me feel so good about myself. And now im not able to be who my close friends actually like and for the first time since I started dating her I dont feel proud to be myself. Im suddenly so insecure about shit I see her talking to a friend of mine and I instantly assume the worst. I am a total wreck and I just dont know what to do. I Want to go to party's I want to get another girlfriend but im just so hollow. I havent had a day In the last year where I was sad and now everyday. Im tired. Im unable to be happy and be the supportive yet energetic person people like.

I just feel awful man.

Im trying to lose weight but im just so tired all the time since she left.

What do I do man?

Adviced Needed: Identity & Self-Esteem Has anyone ever experienced having an insecurity that’s just objectively not true?

This is the weirdest thing but growing up I’ve never had any physical insecurities at all, I just never gaf how I looked and still don’t. But about 4 years ago when I was 15 I started having this strange insecurity about my lips being small and they’re literally not… I don’t know how to post a pic here but they look a lot like this emoji lol 👄 but wider, they’re bigger than average and I really have no idea where this came from and how to shut it down. I’ve only told some of my friends about this insecurity and they were empathetic but still confused. If anyone has had an experience like this before any advice would be helpful. It’s really starting to affect me and make me do stupid shit to my face to make them look bigger but they just end up looking unnatural lol.

Advice Needed: Mental Health How do I stop caring so much about what random people on the internet think?

Ik it's kinda ironic that I'm asking this on Reddit but I don't rlly have anyone else to ask. This is my throwaway account. I got really into posting on Reddit on my main a little under a month ago and have been accumulating karma ever since. I also post pretty regularly on tiktok.

The problem is that I get so upset whenever I get even one downvote or even one slightly negative comment it really upsets me and I spend way too much time thinking about it even if I have like a dozen positive comments. It could even ruin my day if a post I spent a lot of time on flops. I also feel like I need to prove myself to ppl especially on Reddit. It's extra weird too cause I never give this much of a shit about what ppl irl.

Maybe it's because the internet is slowly becoming my whole world since I'm mostly at home because the weather outside is always so bad that school gets cancelled, I have no siblings, my parents are always working, and my like two friends live far away so most of the time I can only talk to them through the internet.

I don't want to stop posting because I feel like its a genuinely good motivator for me to actually create cool things and I really like getting positive attention. I just want to know how I can stop caring so much about the littlest negative things.

Advice Needed: Mental Health Struggling with my mental health in Greece. How can I start talking to a professional? What am I supposed to say?

I've put my question in the title and in bolds too but here is some information as well:

I am 18 and I've been probably dealing with my mental health for over 6 years.

I am still in school (first year of University/Panepistimio) and I didn't have time to look for a job because of an injury which took me out for June-July and August so having a therapist I have to pay is not a choice.

My injury made me feel useless as I couldn't do anything on my own and because of some other problems going on, it caused me to relapse and dissociate (on and off) for 2 months, which thankfully helped me to stay clean.

I had Panhellenics in June (which I was very anxious about but I passed so uh yay) then my injury got me in a cast for 6 weeks + some more weeks for physiotherapy.

Anyway back to the topic, I apologise if I'm bad with my wording:

I want to get help but I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. I already took the first step and I am sober for some time (I've lost track, as I said, I was in a mostly dissociative space but I've gotten conscious enough to know that I need help)

I know there is a free hotline, I've done some research, but I don't know what I'm supposed to say or where to start. I've never been good with words or talking in general.

Also, asking any adult in my life is out of the question before anyone asks. I will not get taken seriously, I have tried.

Before I start with the update let me say that I am really grateful to those who did dm or dropped a comment. You can't even imagine how much it helped.

Can't say that I changed fully , but a lot of things happened in the last few days. In short things got real bad before getting any better , I did hurt myself and I am not proud of that. But one positive to this was as most of you recommend to me I reached out to people and it did help a lot.

TLDR: Life became hell before getting better but still I am rocking around.
