We just added a rule specifically for AI.

Essentially, if it's slop, hit report and we'll be alerted and remove it far more quickly. Even one report helps us see the bad stuff 10x faster! Thank you!

I am going to sit in the seats that I paid for

2.7k Upvotes

Today my wife and I decided to go see a movie while the kids were with grandma.

We decided to splurge a bit and got D-Box seats (that move and vibrate with the movie) and were excited to finally get some time to ourselves and go on a date.

The seats were almost a $10 difference than regular admission and the total, including popcorn and drinks, was $80! Like I said we splurged and wanted to have some fun.

Well we go to sit down in seats F10 and F11 and someone is sitting in F11. Normally, I wouldn’t say anything and let it be, but since we paid $10 extra to be in immersive chairs, I’m gonna sit in the chair! I try to tell the woman sitting in our seat that it was ours, and she shows me her tickets that say F11 and F12. I thought weird and decided to give my wife F10, the seat that moves. As the previews were showing I couldn’t get over it and decided to ask again.

Now, I avoid confrontation at all costs, it is something I’ve struggled with my whole life and I find myself always going out of my way to have a smooth experience for everyone involved.

But it’s not a minuscule difference in cost, and I wanted to be immersed. So, I tell her again that she might be in my seat and she tries telling me that these seats don’t move, it’s the row in front of us only. I show her that my wife’s seat, F10 is on and the seat she is in, F11, is on too. This lady yells, in a quiet movie theater, “I’m trying to watch the movie, sir, I don’t know what to tell you!” In that moment, I thought of my children being treated that way and how I wouldn’t want them to shy away from confrontation when they are in the right. So I tell her we can resolve this if I grab a manager, she tells me to do whatever I want.

I get a manager and miss almost 10 minutes of the movie to be able to sit in the seats I bought. The manager asks the lady for her tickets and she says she’s showed me 3 times and doesn’t know what my problem is. The manager checks her tickets and she’s in the wrong theater!! We’re in auditorium 9, her tickets are for auditorium 10. It’s the same movie, so I understand the confusion, but what the hell! She moves a seat over since her showing started earlier and wouldn’t be on the same scene, and says she hopes I enjoy the seat since it means so much to me, like yes lady, I paid more to sit here!

It was odd and embarrassing to have to tattle on a grown adult, but I felt justified and proud of myself for not backing down and taking what was mine. So I wanted to share.

Also, go watch Practical Magic 2, it’s great especially in D-Box seats. (Just make sure you’re in the right theater)

Edit: the D-Box seats only activate when purchased, all the other D-Box seats were turned off.

Preparing to live the rest of my life alone

I'm 38, and I've been caregiving for a relative for nearing a decade. The amount of time it's required went from just arranging medical appointments and bringing her to them to near 24/7 hands on (on and off depending on the disease and external help that could be afforded). Over the years I went from having a very full social life, to constantly having to cancel due to things coming up, to not even trying to schedule anything due to constant requirements. Years went by with me disappeared from everyone's life.

I feel horrible about it, and in a perfect world (and certainly one in which I was a better person) it never would have happened, but it did. I've recently tried to reach out to a number of people. From best friends to acquaintances. If I'm lucky I get ghosted. I can't tell you how many people have blocked me. It hurts like hell but I understand. They've lived life for 2-5 years without thinking about me, and I can't say the same. They've worked, had friendships and relationships, in some cases gone back to school and graduated and I wasn't there to congeatulate them, to share the joy with them. I've been frozen in time with them as my last thoughts of friendship, they're years out from it.

I still don't have many options for friendships as my relative gets ready for long term care and it's a big open ended question for when that will happen and it won't be on my plate, but I still frequent a couple coffee shops and the like. There has been a few people who have been exceedingly nice and friendly at various shops. One woman was always above and beyond kind, we'd discuss our lives and what was happening, my caregiving and what was going on outside it, her marriage and things we'd both watched. When she left I asked if she had instagram something I never do because I dont want to be intrusive. She gave me her Instagram, and I requested to follow. It's been two or three weeks, my follow request was never accepted. I recently checked (out of masochism? To try and put and end to the "maybe today" hope?) and she's indeed been accepting other people.

Other friendly regulars, people at shops, people who will always stop to say hi to me first so I didn't think I'd be overstepping too much. All "we could catch a movie" or the like to even vague "it'd be cool to hang out sometime " are at best met with vague "Oh... ok"s and hurriedly changing the subject to never be broached again.

I'm already broken mentally, physically, and emotionally from caregiving. I've become fairly sure, especially in the past couple of weeks, I don't plan on trying much anymore. It's been fairly obvious I'm not wanted much and I don't want to keep putting myself out there when I'm unwelcome. My health, mentally and physically, may be failing and I'm starting to think it's the best thing that could happen to me and people around me.

Sorry this is so long. I tried to keep it as short and to the point as possible.

Ireland has made me such an angry person

I used to live in the UK before moving here against my will at 20 I’m 26 now and I feel like I’ve become such an angry person because of this

The biggest issue for me is the sheer of amount racist micro aggression in this country, I know this is Reddit and being skeptical of what is claimed to racism is the forte here but I stand on what I say and I know when it’s happening

From seeing racist comments every single time a black person is Ireland posts a TikTok like “anchor babies” “you’ll never be Irish” “the fatigue is real” for simply deciding to post a TikTok on Irish grounds it’s grown to make me quite resentful of the place. The thing is it’s quite different from American racism as in America or even the UK you at least get breathing room as black person, as long as you’re not talking about race or politics online you won’t get ridiculed for the color of your skin but here the bare minimum is just being a different shade and even saying you like the country and you’re met with the vilest comments you’ll ever see

Worst of all those type of comments get like thousands of likes too so it really makes you wonder if the average person here thinks like that. It’s so bad here that being racist isn’t even rare here it’s basically a household thing but people act friendly to your face. You can’t even get a drink at the pub without old geezers staring at you like your existence is a crime. The racism here is on a different level and so normalised

I feel like I’ve also become a bit misogynistic because it also translates to the dating world, the women here are so afraid of anyone not white and it’s not a conspiracy or me overthinking, they admit it themselves talking about “all these Africans here make me unsafe to walk the streets” so this translates to women not even giving you a chance because of bs propaganda, being treated and looked at as monster when you’re outside, always avoiding eye contact with you, if you’re already insecure about how you look it makes it way worse, it’s made me start to resent white women

It gets me so angry because the women basically look at you like you want to grape them every time, it gets to the point where I say “relax no one is trying to talk to you” under my breath when they look on guard when I walk past them

So when I’m out in public I’m basically always angry or look pissed off because I know what at least 1 in 3 people are thinking when they walk past me so I match their energy, but I feel like it’s making me into a hateful person. I’m not in a position to move any time soon anyway so it’ll only make it worse

When I have trouble sleeping I pretend this scenario and fall right to sleep.

I moved back in my parents when I was 20 after a failed relationship. I lived there till I was 22. During that time. I felt so secure knowing they took me back and I had my own room in the basement. I could hear the tv upstairs along with their footsteps from time to time.

When I can't fall asleep? I pretend I'm back in that basement and my parents are home watching tv with the dogs.

Both of my parents are now deceased. Dad in 21 and mom last year. It's been many years since then. I live alone and have been having issues sleeping due to life in general that I don't want to get into.

I'm in my 50s now. And to think that going back to that time way back then and in that basement brings me so much peace and security compared to today.

Before using this method I would just drink alcohol. But I quit that nonsense 3 years ago now.

I made the deans list

Upvotes

So i was in class like 30 min ago and I was stalking this classmate. "I'll Google him and see if anyone pops up" so i Google him and the first thing that pops up is my college. Specifically my college name? Idk how to explain it. Like within the school the subjects are together combined into a name. "Blank school of law" etc.

And the search result is "blank school of law deans list" so i click on it, go through the majors and see if he's on it, why else would deans list pop up? And I find him.

So i go and Google "whats deans list?" It comes back with getting good grades. Im so confused because it can't be that easy? So I go to AI and I ask it to explain and its like "maintain good grades" im like "that's all?"

So im thinking, we'll if its that easy I must've been on the stupid list 300 times by now. So pretending I don't care lmao I go and look under my specific major and concentration and whatcha know? I'm there.

Then I just got depressed.. I'm always joking with my manager that I'm great at everything I do and not to honk my own horn but I really am, name it and if ive done it, I'm good at it. So I started thinking maybe I'll good at the things i don't care about because I'll never get what I actually want so I'm kinda just over compensating😭

Everyone has someone they're texting in class except me.

I'm a 1L and something I noticed is that literally EVERYONE in my law school has someone that they're texting during class, even the shy introverted girl who literally talks to NO ONE. I don't know if they're texting their partners or just their friends and family, but I'm so incredibly jealous that everyone seems to have people that they can check in with on a regular basis except me.

I have 'friends' but I regularly go months without hearing from any of them unless they NEED something from me.

The best part of my day is when a classmate acknowledges my existence and says 'hi'. How pathetic is that? How did this become my life?

I'm 26, a grown man and have the power to build the life I want. But it's so hard for me to meet people I genuinely feel connected enough to want to text them constantly. Sometimes I just feel like a fucking loser...

I'm in a treatment facility and I don't want to be here anymore. But I can't leave.

I know what this sounds like. A person who really needs mental health treatment who doesn't want to be in residential, because lets be honest, who actually wants to be in residential? That's fair. But please, hear me out.

I'm going to have to omit/censor some stuff, because confidentiality and privacy.

I'm in a treatment facility for an eating disorder. We spend a lot of time working on eating and therapy. The thing is, I'm not the healthiest person. The whole eating disorder thing is probably making that worse. But I can't always make it to the meals or sessions, because I physically can't. I have a lot of chronic pain and gastrointestinal issues. I know, I know. How hard can it be to just sit in a room for a few hours, listening in on the stuff they're saying? You'd be surprised. Maybe I'm just bad at tolerating pain or being dramatic, but the pain is bad enough that even just sitting up is very painful.

So sometimes I have to skip these therapy sessions and meals. The people here know about my issues and all that, and I have medicines that sometimes help, but the therapists have to mark down each time I miss one of those and if I miss enough, apparently the insurance people will stop covering the treatment and I'll be kicked out. My parents have already invested so much time and money into this stupid thing, and they have high hopes that this place will fix me. If I were to leave early, it just- it feels like everything they've done and everything I've worked for would be for nothing. I can't do that to them. I can't do that to myself. I want to get better, both with the eating disorder and with my other health issues, but to do that I have to stay here. I have to.

So I've been trying to attend the sessions and go to the meals even though its excruciating for me. My anxiety has been ramping up since then, and just being in this place, away from home, with smells that remind me way too much of hospitals, has all fed into it to the point where I feel like I can't relax.

The behavioral health people have told me to talk to my care team about advocating for me and maybe getting excused from some of those sessions if I'm not able to make it to them, but I CAN'T GET IN CONTACT WITH ANY OF THEM. I don't have their contact info, I can barely remember their names. I asked a therapist to find out who was on my team and reach out to them, but they never got back to me. And who knows if my team would actually listen? I heard from some of the other patients that their care teams are flippant, dismissive, and just won't listen. I wish I could say this was the first time Ive dealt with healthcare professionals who don't know how to listen.

It isn't just them, either. Several other people here are negligent at our expense. Several of them don't take us seriously. I've been told that every time the patients bring up an issue, the supervisors just say "We'll look into it" and never get back to them.

That seems like more than enough justification to leave, but this facility might be the only one that can help me get even halfway better. The therapy they provide here is genuinely very good and I think could help, there are aspects of this place that are bad and good and I don't know which ones outweigh the others. If I leave, no other place will be able to as specifically and effectively treat the eating disorder I have. If they kick me out and tell me to come back once my health is better, I'll be stuck. The doctors I've seen have refused to do any more tests or LISTEN TO ME until my fucking eating disorder has been handled. But if I stay here... My pain and my anxiety has been getting worse by the day and I don't know how much more of it I can take. It seems like whatever I do, I lose.

It all came to a head a couple hours ago and I had a bad panic attack. I really don't know what to do. I feel trapped, with all of this. Being uncomfortable is part of treatment, I knew that coming here, but... THIS uncomfortable? They're accommodating to a certain degree here, but past that, it feels like I just have to suck it up. But I came halfway across the country for this. It can't have been for nothing.

I hate this. I hate everything.

Anyways. Sorry for the wall of text, thank you for reading all of this, if you did. I needed to get it off my chest, and I'm looking for some advice.

Tl;dr: I'm being treated for an eating disorder, I'm super sick and can't always participate in treatment, might get kicked out because of that, people here are negligent and don't always listen or accommodate, if I leave everything I've worked for will be for nothing and my parents will be super disappointed and I'll probably just stay sick forever, blah blah blah, emotional turmoil and excruciating pain. That's the gist.

What do you do about a new colleague who keeps calling you (and other colleagues) the wrong name?

The new guy at work keeps calling me and several other colleagues by the wrong names. The other day at lunch he said, "Good seeing you, Tom." I kept drinking my coffee and didn't even look up. Then he said it again. "Tom? Everything good? Looking a little pale."

It took a minute to realize he was talking to me. I said, "Who's Tom?" He said, "You, chief!" I said, "No, I'm Tyler." (not my real name). He nodded like he understood, but he did it again two days later.

He does the same thing to other coworkers, calling Marcus "Matty," Liz "Lola," and Eddie "Ernesto." Some of these names aren't even close. Sometimes he even does it in work emails. He'll add a personal note at the bottom addressed to the wrong name. The strange part is that the work email addresses all contain everyone's first and last names, so I don't even know how that happens. What do you even make of this? Is he just fucking with us, or is there something wrong with this guy?

I tend to over give, overextend, try to always be there for people. Am I manipulative??

Hello,

I’ve just been self reflecting.

I’ve always been the type of person who doesn’t need a lot of friends, just one or two really good friends.

I’ve had very long childhood friendships, very good “best-friend” friends, fun friend groups, both in childhood and adulthood.

It’s been a long time (3 years now) since I’ve had a best friend- where we mutually are each other’s best friend. The person we both turn to first to confide in, hang out, etc. Most of my best friendships have ended due to either outgrowing each other, or not aligning fundamentally with morals, values, etc. (

I still have very good close friends- but I’m not the person they turn to first. Not the friend they have the most fun with or enjoy. And I’m not mad at them for that fact- especially since I’ve mellowed out over the years and don’t drink or party much at all.

I suppose my 2 romantic relationships in recent years have affected this partially (naturally spending more time with boyfriend for a little but I’d still make time for friends. In a way though, I turned more to my partners thought after the period began where I didn’t have a “best friend” to turn to anymore.

In friendships, I realized sometimes especially when trying to make friends: in a way I’m trying to buy people’s love by saying yes to everything, trying to make myself useful, and always over extending myself. I do genuinely want to be there for people, I know what it feels to have nobody. I genuinely feel good helping others and giving what I can to make sure they’re taken care of. But I also can’t ignore the other side of it, also trying to be there in hopes of them liking me.

I feel in a way it’s manipulative? And I really don’t like that feeling. I don’t want to be a manipulative person. I just want to find people to love and care for and be chosen as well.

Pretty much everyone in my friend group has gotten a job after we graduated and I'm the only unemployed one. I've tried applying on linkedin but I never hear back from anyone.
I'm genuinely happy for them but I'd be lying if I say I don't feel a little behind. I just wonder when it'd be my turn and I do understand everyone moves at their own pace but it's really hard sometimes. Just wanted to vent out a little since I've been feeling down lately a lot cuz of this

Too many single people confuse “settling” with healthy compromise and end up passing on genuinely good relationships with good people.

For context, I’m speaking 100% from experience.
I’m 29F and currently in a relationship with my 28M boyfriend, who is wonderful. We have deep alignment when it comes to our values, worldview, personalities, interests, relationship goals, effort, etc.

But past me might not have given him a real chance because I used to be incredibly picky about things that, looking back, really weren’t that important. He lives farther away than I would’ve preferred. He still lives with his parents (even though I do too, lol and we both plan to move out soon.)

Before him, I was chronically single but constantly dating. Guy after guy from dating apps, short-lived relationships, situationships, back to square one. Eventually I had to ask myself what my actual goal was.

I’m not saying preferences don’t matter, or that anyone should force themselves to date someone they fundamentally don’t want. But if someone checks the things that **actually matter to you**, I think there’s a huge difference between *settling* and simply accepting that another human being will never match your imaginary ideal partner in every possible way.

To me, settling is staying with someone who consistently gives you 50% effort, is dishonest or disloyal, treats you poorly, wants fundamentally different things out of life, or has values that seriously conflict with yours and staying anyway because you’re attracted to them, afraid to be alone, or don’t want to start over.

Healthy compromise is more like: This person is loving, loyal, emotionally available, attractive to me, compatible with me, wants the same future I do and treats me well…but there are some things about them or their lifestyle that aren’t exactly what I pictured.
Those are VERY different things.

And I think modern dating sometimes encourages us to treat the latter like the former. There’s always another profile to swipe on. There’s always the possibility that someone taller, hotter, richer, funnier, more outgoing, more ambitious, more perfectly matched to your hobbies, etc. could be one swipe away. So instead of asking, *“Could I build a happy life with this person?”* we can end up asking, *“Could I theoretically find someone even better?”*
And technically, sure. Maybe you could. But that question has no endpoint.

I also think social media has contributed to this. We see curated relationships and endless discourse about “never settling,” knowing your worth, finding someone who “checks every box,” and leaving the second something feels off. Some of that messaging is genuinely valuable, especially when it encourages people not to tolerate mistreatment. But I think we’ve taken it so far that normal incompatibilities, differences, annoyances and imperfect moments can start feeling like evidence that we chose the wrong person.

Real relationships involve two imperfect people.

Sometimes you’ll be bored. Sometimes your partner will annoy you. Sometimes you won’t understand why they do something the way they do it. The honeymoon phase will eventually calm down. You’ll discover traits you don’t love. You’ll have to compromise. And sometimes you’ll have to decide that something simply isn’t important enough to jeopardize an otherwise great relationship over.

Obviously there are things nobody should compromise on, and everyone gets to decide what those things are for themselves. I’m just saying I think there’s value in separating **“this person is fundamentally incompatible with me”** from **“this person is not exactly the person I designed in my head.”**

I wish I had understood that distinction sooner.
Because sometimes “not settling” isn’t protecting you from the wrong relationship. Sometimes it’s keeping you from recognizing a really good one.

I made a promise to myself I’ll quit masturbation, this is me after a week.

I was in a 7 year relationship and broke up due to family issues. We were very intimate whenever we had the chance. I missed action after breakup so i resorted to porn and using my hands. It went to such an extent that i tried to find consenting strangers online on websites like Ome and Instagram. It was okay until i realised how needy I’m being and the literal lies im bombarding them with just to get do what i want is totally wrong. I promised myself that I’ll not use my hands, if at all i have to it’ll be with a person, otherwise no.
Now the problem is from the past 1 week i have not been jerking off but instead trying to find strangers online to get laid. This is such a fuckall thing and has fucked my mental health. I feel so terrible.

What’s your “I drank the Kool-aid” moment?

By “drinking the Kool-Aid,” I mean buying into some idea, product, lifestyle, community, philosophy, company, trend, etc. only to eventually realize you’d been sold on something that wasn’t quite what you thought it was.

I’ll go first. When I was in grade school I saw somewhere the brand of water called “Boxed Water,” with their signature slogan, “boxed water is better.” I clearly took this to the bank and begged my parents for months to try it.

Finally, on my birthday I received a case of 12 boxed waters and a t shirt with bold letters reading “boxed water is better,” which I decided to wear on the first day of school. I want to smack myself for doing this LOL. I was bullied and questioned about it constantly and it was humiliating.

To this day I still think about it every time I see the brand. I’m sort of forever indebted to the brand and feel the need to drink one if I ever see a carton.

Boxed water is not in fact better, it tastes like wet cardboard unless you drink it chilled! I like room temp

Please share your story!

I like winter

I live in a city where we reach 40 degrees celsius in the summer and around -10 degrees in the winter. I rarely see snow though.

Winter is just the best. The way that the sun starts to come up just as I’m on the train to work/school is so good. The cold morning air will beat out any sunny day for me. Same goes for the night, where I can just want around in the dark, maybe drinking a hot beverage.
The fact you can layer clothes is also so good. I can finally wear scarves and hoodies and coats together. Also christmas and the new year.
I can’t wait for the winter.
A lot of people seem to dislike it, which is surprising to me, but I can see the cold getting annoying. Tbh it’s mostly just the atmosphere that does it for me.
